EPISODE 16- THE TEST

*SCENE 1: THE GHOST FROM THE PAST - TANYA RETURNS*

Tuesday morning. Trendly Digital, Noida.

Anaya was leading a client pitch. She was confident, in a navy blue blazer. 6 months of hard work had changed her. She wasn’t the quiet bahu anymore.

Her phone vibrated. Unknown number.

WhatsApp notification popped up on her laptop screen.

DP: Rohan’s old college photo. With a girl.

*Message: "Hey Rohan. It’s Tanya. I’m back in Delhi. Divorced. Can we catch up? I miss us. - T"*

Anaya’s heart stopped for 2 seconds. Then she closed the laptop.

She finished the pitch perfectly. No one knew her hands were shaking.

That evening she reached home early.

Rohan’s car was not in the garage.

At 8 PM, she saw his location on "Find My" - "The Brew Cafe, Golf Course Road".

Anaya put her phone down. Made dinner. Fed everyone. Went to sleep.

For 3 days Anaya was in hospital.

Rohan didn’t leave. He rejected 17 calls from Tanya.

Mrs. Malhotra made moong dal and sat by her bed.

On day 3, Anaya was weak but awake.

*Anaya, in a whisper*: "Maa ji... mandir... drawer... duplicate key..."

Mrs. Malhotra frowned, then ran home.

She opened the small drawer in the temple where they kept old keys.

And there it was. The full diamond set. Wrapped in red cloth.

She remembered. Diwali night. She had taken it out to show a relative, then kept it there and forgot in the rush.

She came back to the hospital, fell at Anaya’s feet.

*Mrs. Malhotra*: "Beta, maaf kar do. Humne tum par ilzaam lagaya. Tum bimaar thi aur hum..."

Anaya touched her head.

*Anaya*: "Maa ji, rishton mein galtiyan hoti hain. Bas sudhar jaani chahiye."

2 weeks later. Anaya was back home, recovering.

Doorbell.

Tanya stood there. Designer dress. Sunglasses.

*Tanya*: "Can I talk to Rohan?"

Rohan came. Anaya stood behind him.

*Tanya*: "Rohan, I was stupid. My ex was horrible. I realized you were the one. Please, let’s start over."

Silence.

Rohan stepped forward and took Anaya’s hand.

*Rohan*: "Tanya, 5 years ago you chose money over me. 2 months ago you tried to break my marriage. Today, I choose the woman who stayed when I was wrong. Who worked when we had nothing. Who saved this family’s izzat.

This is my wife, Anaya. And this is my final answer. Please don’t come back."

Tanya looked at Anaya. At her simple kurta. At her tired but strong eyes.

She left without another word.

1 month later. Anaya’s parents’ 30th anniversary.

Anaya told them "Chalo, dinner bahar karte hain."

She drove them to a new society in Lucknow. Stopped in front of a 3BHK with balloons.

*Anaya*: "Maa, Papa... Happy Anniversary. Ye aapka ghar hai."

Her mother cried. Her father, a retired teacher, hugged Rohan.

*Mr. Verma*: "Beta, tumne meri beti ko sirf biwi nahi banaya. Tumne use udaan di."

That night, back in Delhi, the Malhotra family had dinner together.

Mrs. Malhotra served Anaya first.

*Mrs. Malhotra*: "Beta, aaj se tum is ghar ki beti ho. Bahu nahi."

She walked up. Looked at the audience.

Rohan, Mrs. Malhotra, Mr. Malhotra, her parents - all in the front row, clapping.

I was blamed for a theft I didn’t commit.
