My mother went to go see who was at the door and I stayed in the kitchen. All I could do was stare at the letter from my father. I started to open it slowly and pulled it out carefully. The paper was old and the letters were kind of worn out, yet I could still read it. They were in a different language but some how my dsylexia started to move the letters around until it was in English.
"dear Alicia. I'm sorry that I didn't tell your mother right away who I was or even stay. You see I'm a god. My name is Hades. Yes the Greek god of the underworld. Your mom. She was a vision of beauty and she was taking care of the graves of those who had nobody. Even if it was her job the way she talked about taking care of them it meant a lot. I fell for her in that moment but she talked about staying at home and all these plans. I couldn't tell her who I was or ask her to uproot her life. So I sent these letters when I sensed you were inside of her. Its a long story but Hera also helped tell me. I told her to bring you to me when you were born but she sent me a letter back saying no. She would raise you alone since I abandoned her. Even though I really didn't. I have a job to do and I cant just abandon that because I fell in love. She kept me from you but I hope one day when you develop powers she will do the right thing. You need to come to the city I live in. It's safe from the monsters that will start to sense you now that they have started to develop. Your scent it was human up until your powers started. Now it is demigod, and they will come. Maybe not right away, you are important though. I am a big god, one of the big three. Your scent is stronger than that of a child of lets say Athena. They will always come for you first before a lesser demigod and that worries me. Someone will be sent to bring you to the city. It is accessible by mortals as we are a tourist town, however I can't give you the address. It's not really up to me the other gods agreed we would not get involved past what we already have. I hope to see you soon and help you learn your powers and how to navigate your new world. I love you. Your father, Hades."
I couldn't believe this was all true. How was this even possible? I was a demigod? My father was a greek god? My mom didn't want me to go with him. That was a fact not even a question. I couldn't imagine why my mother wouldn't want me to go with him. I was pulled out of my thoughts though by a hand being placed on my shoulder. I knew this hand, there was no mistaking the big hand on my shoulder.
"BRAN?!" I said throwing the letter on the counter and basically throwing myself into his arms. He was at least six feet tall, and I was five feet three inches. So I was really tiny in comparison to his giant self. His arms wrapped themselves around my waist and he was spinning me around in my moms kitchen. I couldn't believe he was here after two years he was finally here. How? Why? "I can't believe you are here!" I said with a giggle.
"I had to come. One I missed you tiny but two it's part of my job." Part of the reason he left is what he meant to say. I could tell. I pulled myself away just to look at his face and he took the opportunity to kiss me. Half of me was surprised and the other half wanted to kiss him back. Yet I was in a relationship. and just like that my phone rang. And it just so happened to be my boyfriend. I let go of Bran and ran to my phone because I knew if I didn't answer it I would be in for it.
"Hey babe. Sorry I called earlier I forgot you were at work." I said quietly through the phone.
"Yea and my phone went off in the middle of my meeting and I almost got fired for that so thanks." It's not my fault you had your phone on loud in the middle of a meeting. Is what I wanted to say but I chose to not say anything in return. "What did you even call for?"
"Oh um. Theres some crazy things happening with me right now. I um actually-"
"Can you just hurry up I have to go back to work." Inturuptted. Gods I talk to much.
"I found out who my father is. I have to leave now to go meet him." I said and I could tell he was fumming.
"And where just is that? where even are you right now? You better be at your dorm when i get there." He was yelling through the phone and that's when it was taken out of my hand. I tried to protest but Bran already had it up to his face. And let's face it, im rather small, so there was no chance I would get it back. I tried to jump up so I could reach it, and he just moved away. He didn't even need to try since I would never reach it unless I climbed up him.
"Hey, so we have never met. I'm the one who came before you. My name is Bran. I'm in charge of making sure she gets to her father safely; hes a pretty big deal. You would be better off not pissing me off or even try to find her. Don't even try to argue or threaten me. I could lift you with one hand and I have more training than you ever will." Bran said with a matter of fact tone. He looked over at me with a warm, gentle smile, and I just blushed and smiled back at him. I could not hear what he said to Bran, but I could tell Bran thought it was hilarious. Just from the hysterical laughter that came out of his mouth. "You are hysterical, boy. It's funny. Good bye." Bran hung up and chucked my phone onto the counter. "Leave it here. If you dont theres a chance he could track it. I dont trust him."
"He would never hurt me." I tried to say. Even though he had hurt my just never physical. Even if he threatened it once or twice he always said he never really would hit me. Somehow I dont fully believe him but I still had to defend him.
"You don't need to try and defend him. He's a piece of s**t and would hurt you if given the opportunity." I just sighed and looked away from Bran before going to look out one of the windows. I couldn't believe this was my life; my father was a god. A Greek god of legends and myths. Married to a goddess. Yet still had children outside of that marriage. I was about to speak up when a crashing sound rang through the house. Quickly I turned to see this big human looking thing in the living room. It roared, I could tell It only had one eye, a cyclops. I had become super into Greek Mythology when I was a child and had read so many books. Especially after seeing all those things as a child.
Bran acted quickly telling my mother to get outside and then running over to me with some kind of hammer thing in his hand. There was way to much going on, the Cyclops locked his eye with my own and I could feel my heart drop into my stomach. I was not prepared for something like this. The Cyclops threw something and Bran attempted to block it, instead of it being fully blocked, the object still hit me in the face. I screamed out in pain and fell to the ground.
"No get up we have to go!" Bran yelled and I looked up he had taken out a hand gun. I hear three shots ring off and then I was lifted off the ground quickly. Bran put me on my feet and handed me a dagger that looked sorta gold ish, maybe more bronze. I was in shock of what was going on so the color was the last thing on my mind. "You might have to use this don't worry you will be trained later." Was all he said before pushing me out of the way. Right as a club came down and lodged itself into the wall.
Bran seemed to just have natural instincts, ones that I lacked in and that hurt deep down. He was trying to protect me because I couldn't defend myself. I had to get out of his way. I looked around everywhere quickly trying to find a way to get out of the house. That's when my eyes fell on the broken sliding door. We were in the living room it was the fastest way. Bran understood what I was doing without me even saying anything.
"Go run!" He said and my legs moved without my brain even telling them too. Next thing I knew I was running outside. The cyclops was distracted trying to get it's club from out of the wall. I was almost outside when I hear a scream come from Bran. I turned around and the Cyclops had grabbed him by the throat, his club still in the wall. Bran's gun was on the floor and I had never used one before. My body felt like it was on auto pilot, moving without me even telling it to. I had slid underneath Bran to grab the gun and aimed it at the Cyclops eye. I pulled the trigger and the bullet went into the monster's singular eye. "Throw me the dagger!" Bran screamed since the cyclops had loosened it's grip ever so slightly. I did as I was told and Bran caught it, proceeding to cut the cyclops neck open.
The blood came gushing out of the monster and Bran was let go. The Cyclops was trying to stop the bleeding by putting it's hands against it's throat. Only it wasn't working, the blood just kept coming out. I had fallen onto the floor and was sitting against a wall trying to catch my breath, the adrenaline still running through my body. Soon I could see the cyclops start to turn to dust and with one final cry the cyclops was gone. The club was still in my mother's wall but that was an issue for another day. Bran came running over dropping the dagger, his hands finding my cheeks. I could see that he was worried about me and it almost broke me. He still cared about me.
"We have too go. More will come and I cant garuntee they will be as weak as him." Bran said and I just looked at him flabbergasted. Then my mother's voice came bounding through the room.
"Please go Alicia. You have to go." I looked over and my mother had tears in her eyes. I knew I had to go, she was too worried about me for me to stay here.
"Okay." I said with a small knod.
