Chapter 10

2016 Words
2.5 year later “Happy Birthday!” Davina woke suddenly to Elsie jumping on her bed. She groaned, pulling her pillow over her head, “Elsie, couldn’t you have waited until I was awake!” “No way! We have a seriously long day ahead of us. First, we are going shopping. You need a killer outfit for the party tonight.” Tonight wasn’t just Davina’s twenty-first birthday party but a sending away party for Chris, Tommy, and Alex. They’re heading around to other packs as a part of the treaty to help with their training. Rogue attacks have become much more frequent over the past year. The other packs have been sending notices to Alpha Al in hopes of some guidance. Al thought this would be a good opportunity for the three. They will soon be taking over the council and it will help with their leadership and, hopefully, they’ll find their mates. “Ugh fine!” Davina sat up abruptly, almost causing Elsie to tumble off the bed. Elsie squealed as she sat up and squeezed Davina, “you have fifteen minutes!” With that Elsie bounded off the bed and to her room to get dressed. Davina dragged herself to her closet and threw on leggings and an oversized t-shirt. She heard a knock on the door and went to pull open the door, where she was greeted by another tight squeeze. “Happy Birthday love!” Cleo said as she loosened her grip, but Davina was pulled into another hug. “Happy Birthday!” Al said with a quick kiss on the top of her head. “Thanks mom, thanks dad!” She returned the hug and looked up at the two. “We heard Elsie and figured you’d be up,” Cleo said, “so we came to join you.” “I can never say no to her,” Davina said, rolling her eyes while laughing. “Neither can we,” Al said. The trio laughed and went down for a quick breakfast. Elsie joined shortly after, scarving down her plate. “Okay, we’re leaving!” Elsie said through a full mouth. She grabbed Davina’s arm and pulled her to the garage. They hopped into Elsie’s Bronco and headed for town. After a few hours, they still had no luck finding anything to wear. “Honestly, I probably have something at home I can wear,” Davina sighed, looking at herself in the mirror in a boring gray dress. “No way!” Elsie said, “it’s your birthday. You have to look good!” “And I won’t in something I already own?” “I mean yeah, but that’s not nearly as fun!” Davina chuckled as they continued on to the next few stores. They eventually found a new boutique hidden in the corner of the mall. Davina heard Elsie gasp next to her as she took in all the clothes. They searched the racks and found a dress they both adored for themselves. Elsie picked out a short mauve dress with thin straps. It had ruching at the waist that followed to the skirt that landed at mid thigh. “You look amazing!” Davina said as Elsie turned in the mirror. Elsie nodded in agreement. “Now go try yours on.” Davina went to the changing room and slipped on the midnight blue dress she had found. It hugged her curves nicely and landed at mid thigh. It had a cowl neckline and draped on the back, leaving her entire back bare. The material has sparkles scattered throughout, making it appear like the night sky filled with stars. She walked out to the mirror and gazed upon her reflection. “Wow, you’re breathtaking,” Elsie whispered. “Oh whatever,” Davina rolled her eyes with a grin, “it is pretty, isn’t it?” Elsie laughed and grabbed Davina’s arm to pull her back to the changing rooms. Elsie did not let Davina out of her sight even after returning home. They spent the remainder of their afternoon getting ready. As the sun set, they finally finished and descended to the garden where the party was being held. Elsie finally released Davina from her grip and Davina ran to the bar as quickly as possible. “Whiskey sour, please” she said to the bartender, Jon. She felt someone behind her and quickly turned to face Chris. “You do have a brother you know,” he laughed and pulled Davina into a bear hug, “Happy Birthday!” “Thanks Chris!” Davina said with a smile, “Elsie would not let me out of her sight until we got here.” Chris laughed at Elsie's antics, but was tense as he looked around the garden. “I wish you would’ve worn something different,” he muttered. “What, why?” “Because half the guys here are unmated and keep looking at you like you're some prize.” “I kind of am,” Davina smirked. Chris chuckled but still had a serious look in his eyes. “I may have to remind them who your brother is.” “Oh hush Chris. I can handle myself.” In fact, Davina had become the top warrior in the pack. Chris can only beat her a some of the time. “I know.” He grinned. The bartender handed Davina her drink, “thanks Jon!” She sipped her drink as they walked to find their friends. “How long will you be gone for?” “A few months, at least,” Chris said gloomily. “What’s wrong?” “Nothing.” “Chris, you’re my brother. I know when something’s wrong.” Chris sighed, “I’m worried that I won’t find my mate while I’m gone.” “Chris! Don’t think like that. You’ll find your mate when you’re supposed to. The moon goddess knows what she’s doing.” “I know, but alphas usually find their mates now. I’m twenty-six. I should be alpha already.” Davina grabbed his hand and gave a gentle squeeze, “ Don’t worry. I have faith that when you return, you will return with our luna.” Chris returned the squeeze. At that moment, Alex came running up behind Davina and pulled her into a hug, spinning her around. “Seriously!” Davina squealed in amusement. “Happy Birthday Sugar Plum! I missed you today!” Alex smiled. “Els stole her away all day,” Chris said. “Hey!” Elsie said as she came up to them, “I can steal my sister if I want to.” “She’s got friends, you know,” Alex jeered, “plus training wasn’t nearly as fun. I couldn’t see Chris getting his ass handed to him or Tommy.” “Or you,” Davina chuckled. They found an empty table and discussed what the guys would be doing when they go around to the other packs. “Davina should honestly be coming,” Alex said seriously, “she’s the best warrior I’ve ever seen.” “You know why I can’t.” Although her pack was aware she was a white wolf, they didn't know she had powers. Davina didn't want other packs to find out about her existence yet. “I know… It’s just a shame. I learn so much by training with you.” Davina smiled at him. “Where’s Tommy?” Elsie asked. “Probably with some she wolf.” Davina said, rolling her eyes. As she scanned the room, she found him making out with someone in the corner.“Yeah, over there.” “Honestly, can’t he keep it in his pants?” Elsie spat. “You know him better than that,” Chris said, “he has a high s*x drive.” “You think he’d be looking for his mate, rather than shoving his tongue down whoever's throat,” Davina joined. “It’s never just anyone. He’s only ever with pretty she-wolves. ” Alex said. The girls rolled their eyes. “Alex, don’t defend him. You’re the only man I know who has ever taken a relationship seriously outside of those who are mated,” Davina said. “Hey now! I’m offended.” Chris said. “Well, you’re not as bad as Tommy, but you still sleep around,” Elsie shrugged. They continued chatting and drinking before Alex swept Elsie to the dance floor for a few songs. “Do you ever miss your mate?” Chris asked, as he watched couples dancing together happily. “No. I was rejected anyway.” She waved her hand, dismissing the thought, ignoring the tug in her heart at the mention of James. She rarely thought of him, but when she did she grew sad. Davina could still feel the mate bond between her and James, and it could be painful when she thought about it. However, she had forgiven both James and Isaac already, it was a part of her own healing. She only hoped they had seen the error of their ways and had changed. “I guess he's an idiot.” Davina laughed, “when you find yours, just don’t be an i***t yourself.” Chris nodded and ordered another round of drinks for them. “What’d I miss?” Tommy said, plopping down on an empty seat. “Nothing really,” Chris said. “Where’s your lay of the week?” Davina asked. Tommy stared at her a moment before answering, “Getting some drinks.” “Mmm, you don’t want to keep her waiting. You better go find her.” “Happy Birthday Davina,” he said, staring at her intently, brushing off her harsh tone. “Thanks Tommy." “You look beautiful.” “So I’ve been told.” “Cheeky,” Tommy laughed, waving his finger at her. “I’m going to miss you while I’m away.” “I’m sure you’ll find someone to keep you company.” Tommy stood as he smirked. He leaned across the table and placed a swift kiss on Davina’s cheek, “no one compares to you, V.” “Oh shush you flirt,” Davina blushed, “go find your date.” Tommy grinned before leaving. “I need to learn some of his moves,” Chris said. “Don’t even think about it!” Davina said, backhanding his shoulder. A few hours and many drinks later, the group stumbled back to their rooms. “Make sure you wake me up before you leave!” Davina slurred. “We will,” Chris answered with a grin before opening his door and heading to bed. “Goodnight V.” Elsie chimed. Davina fumbled with her door knob, trying to get it open. A large hand covered hers and helped open the door. Davina turned her head to find Tommy. She pushed the door open and gestured for him to come in. “What do you want, Tommy?” Davina giggled, “do you think you can sway me into bed like your other girls?” “No,” Tommy said gently, “you’re not like any other girl I know and I wouldn’t treat you as such.” Davina giggled again, nodding her head in approval. She twirled around before Tommy grabbed her hand and pulled her into a hug. They stood there for a few minutes before Tommy pulled away. “I wanted to give you your birthday gift,” Tommy said, handing Davina a small gift. She opened the box and found a necklace matching the charm he had gotten for her bracelet a couple of years ago. “It’s beautiful Tommy. Thank you.” Davina smiled at him. “Anything for you.” Tommy said, running a finger along her face “I really am going to miss you. You’re my best friend.” “I’m going to miss you too, Tommy.” He smiled at Davina and gave her another brief hug, “goodnight.” “Goodnight,” Davina said, before watching him leave.
