6 months later
“Hey! Get your own!” Davina yelled, snatching her plate back from Chris.
“You took the rest of the bacon. And you took like ten pieces,” he groaned.
“I don’t care. You try living on a restricted diet for over four months and tell me if you wouldn't take it all,” Davina said.
“You’re right,” Chris laughed, “you can have it all.”
Davina grinned at him. She tossed her newly cut hair over her shoulder. Her once wavy, blonde hair had turned completely white. With the new color, she decided to get a new cut and had it chopped shoulder length. Davina hit her goal two months ago and Tonia had finally allowed her to drop the diet and eat as she pleased. Her body had filled out and was now all muscle. Leah now has to cook three plates for each meal just for Davina and she happily does. Davina started training three months ago and quickly ascended in the ranks. She’s now training with Chris, Tommy, and Alex.
“Are you ready to get your ass handed to you later?” Tommy asked Davina.
“In your dreams. You barely got me last time.”
Tommy laughed, “we’ll see, love.”
“My bet is on Davina,” Chris said, stifling a grin.
“Mine too,” Alex chimed in.
“Since when are you all on her side?” Tommy whined.
“Since you almost got your ass handed to you last week. And I’ve taught her some new moves.” Alex winked, ”right sugar plum?” Davina nodded her head, grinning.
“Come on, we’re gonna miss our show!” Davina said, dragging them to the lounge room after they finished breakfast. She quickly turned on the show they had all gotten invested in, Elsie joining a few minutes later.
“Dad wants to talk to us,” Elsie said to Chris after the episode ended, “and Davina. I told him he’d have to wait until this was over though.”
“Sweet of him to wait and let us watch it,” Davina grinned.
The three headed up to the alpha’s office after their show finished, where Al sat looking over some documents. Cleo sat in the corner reading a novel. Al looked up when he heard the door open. “Finally,” he said with a smile and gestured to the couch. The three sat as Cleo went to join Al at his side.
“We wanted to get your opinions on something,” Cleo said.
“Yes,” Al continued, “as you know, Davina has become quite important to all of us, I think.” She had unintentionally fitted into the molds of their family with ease. Both Chris and Elsie were closer to her than Isaac ever was and she was grateful for that. She looked up to Al and Cleo as parental figures as well and grew to love them as such. He looked at his two children, who both nodded their heads. Davina blushed at his statement. “Well, with all of your approval. We, um…well, we would like to adopt Davina. That is if you’re all okay with it, of course.” Al finished and Cleo gave a warm smile. They all sat in silence for a minute, processing the information.
“I...I’m sorry. What?” Davina asked, not quite wrapping her head around what she had just heard.
“Well, I think it is a fabulous idea! I’ve always wanted a sister and you basically already are,” Elsie said, gripping Davina into a hug.
“I agree, I already see her as a sister too,” Chris said, joining the hug.
A tear rolled down Davina’s cheek, “You want to adopt me?”
“Of course love,” Cleo said, “it’s your decision though. We know it's a bit unconventional since you're an adult, but we both consider you a daughter to us and would like to make it official.” Davina, too stunned to say anything, simply nodded her head as the tears kept flowing down her face. Cleo and Al came over and joined the hug. They all sat there for a moment, embracing each other.
After they broke apart, Davina looked at all of them, “I don’t even know what to say right now.”
“You don’t have to say anything,” Cleo said, “All you need is to sign these papers.” She led Davina to the desk where they looked over the papers and signed everything they needed. Since she was eighteen, it wasn't really a matter of guardianship but rather officially making her a part of the family.
“We will announce this to the pack tonight at dinner,” Al said. Davina nodded her head and gave him a quick hug.
“Thank you Al,” she whispered.
“I hope you can call me dad one day,” he said, “I know it’s different though, so no pressure.”
Davina smiled at him again, “dad.”
Al’s eyes began to water. He looked down quickly so the others wouldn’t notice and quickly wiped the tears away. He had unknowingly become attached to her when he decided to follow her to the basement all those months ago. Her fragility in that moment and her putting her trust in him formed a bond that would never be broken.
“V, it’s time for me to watch you beat Tommy’s ass,” Chris said. The group laughed through the waterworks, before the two left for the training grounds. “Do you think your wolf will be ready soon?” Chris asked.
Selene had been getting stronger, as Davina had. She let Davina return to full health before beginning to really start healing herself. “I think so,” Davina answered.
Yes, we can shift at the next full moon in a few nights' time.
“Oh!” Davina said.
“What?”
“She said I could shift at the next full moon in a few nights.”
“That’s great! We’ll get the group together and we can go on a run. If you want?”
“Yea, of course!” Davina agreed. They arrived at the ground and found Tommy and Alex sparring in a corner. They stopped as Chris and Davina approached.
“Ready to kick some ass sugar plum?” Alex asked as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
“Duh,” Davina said.
Tommy rolled his eyes and laughed, “yea right, sugar plum.” Tommy mocked.
“Hey, that’s for my use only!” Alex said. Tommy and Chris laughed. Nobody knew the inside joke between Davina and Alex. He had found Davina watching The Nutcracker one night trying to learn ballet from the movie. She looked just like the sugar plum fairies that were dancing around the screen. Alex knew he would never be able to unsee her as one.
Davina stretched as the three guys discussed pack duties. They’d begun taking on certain jobs for their future roles as the lunar pack's council. They won’t be official until Chris finds his mate. Per pack laws, the future alpha must find his mate before taking over. Davina looked up and noticed small snowflakes starting to flurry. “Let’s get this over with,” Davina said, “I want to go sit by the fire.” The three looked up and nodded their heads in agreement. Alex and Chris started sparring and Tommy walked over to Davina. They started throwing punches and jabs. Tommy threw a quick uppercut which Davina blocked with grace. She kicked his chest and knocked him a few feet back. Both their breathing was starting to quicken as they continued to circle each other. They were back at each other quickly throwing punches and dodging. Davina grabbed Tommy’s neck and brought her knee up into his gut. Tommy pushed her back and hunched over in pain. Davina took her moment and did a quick leg sweep, which brought Tommy down on his back. Davina quickly straddled him, her arm pressing on his throat. “Gotcha,” Davina smirked. Tommy laughed and, before she knew it, Davina was underneath him. He held her arms and legs down with his own.
“Not so quick there V.” Tommy smirked back. Davina smiled and kneed his groin, causing Tommy to crumple on top of her. She pushed him off and sat up looking at Tommy, who was curled in a ball.
“You’re okay,” she said.
“That was not fair,” Tommy groaned. Chris and Alex came over laughing.
“We told you she was going to win,” Chris said, and Alex nodded his head. Chris offered his hand to Davina, who pulled herself up, “can’t beat my baby sister.” Chris threw his arm over her shoulder.
“What?” Tommy and Alex looked at the two, shock apparent on their faces.
“Oh,” Chris said, “right. Remember how my dad wanted to talk to us earlier?”
“Yeah?” They answered as they started back to the packhouse.
“Well, my parents adopted Davina,” he said with a smile.
“Are you serious?”
“Yes, they’re announcing it to the pack at dinner.”
“That’s awesome,” Tommy said, grabbing Davina into a hug.
“Super cool. I’m happy for you, sugar plum.”
Davina smiled at them, “thanks guys. I’m overwhelmed with love I didn’t expect and am so happy to be a part of the family.”
“Let’s be honest, you already kinda were.” Chris laughed, Davina chuckled in agreement.
The group went to the dining hall for lunch, where they found Elsie and sat with her. “So, who won?” Elsie asked.
“Me, of course!” Davina said.
“She cheated.” Tommy muttered.
“Don’t be a sore loser, Tommy.” Elsie joked, making the table laugh.
“Guys, I’m shifting at the full moon in a couple nights.” Davina said, “Chris wanted a group so we could all run together if you want?”
“Um yeah,” Tommy answered, “we’ll all be there.” The others nodded in agreement. After lunch, Davina went to her room and soaked in her tub for the next hour. She let her aching muscles melt away in the warm water. Only after she resembled a shriveled prune did Davina get out and throw on a lounge set. She headed to the lounge room and found Tommy and Elsie watching a movie. She plopped down by Tommy and laid her head against his shoulder. He opened up his arm and she nestled into the crook of his arm, laying her head on his chest. Davina quickly fell asleep, a piece of hair falling across her face. Tommy tucked it back behind her ear and continued watching the movie.
Davina jolted awake later that evening. She looked around and met her favorite pair of bright blue eyes. “I fell asleep?” she asked Tommy. He nodded his head, “Oh,” she yawned, “well you are rather comfortable.” She giggled. “What time is it?”
“Almost six.”
“You could have woken me up. It’s almost time for dinner and I actually have to be there tonight!” She slapped him on the shoulder.
“I know, I was getting ready to. It was just nice to look at you without having to hear your smart mouth.” Tommy laughed. Davina rolled her eyes playfully.
“Whatever, let’s go.” They headed to the food hall where they found the alpha family waiting.
“Did you have a good nap?” Elsie winked.
“Yes I did,” Davina blushed. They all went to sit at the head table. Al stood at the front and cleared his throat, commanding the attention of everyone.
“Good evening! I hope you all stayed warm inside. A blizzard is coming tonight, so be sure to hunker down! On another note, Cleo and I have some news we’d like to share with you all,” Al smiled, “earlier today we adopted Davina.” The entire room erupted in cheers. “As many of you could tell, she became a part of our family the moment she got here. It only felt right to make it official.” Al finished as the room continued to cheer. Davina looked down overcome with emotions, discreetly wiping tears from her eyes.
