Davina fell asleep on the ride back to the lunar pack. Hours later, she woke abruptly when she felt the car come to a stop. “Where are we?” she asked, groggily.
“We’ve just arrived at the packhouse,” Al stated, “we’re going to take you to the pack hospital. Our doctors will take good care of you, okay?”
Davina began shaking uncontrollably and shook her head, “no, no doctors.” Memories of past doctors painfully “helping” her flashed through her mind.
Cleo’s eyes began to water again, “sweetheart, it’ll be okay. They’re here to help you heal, they won’t harm you. I’ll be with you the whole time, okay?” The panic slowly ebbed away and Davina nodded, unsure of why she trusted the two so much. Cleo got out and walked around to Davina’s side to help her out of the car.
“Mom, dad!” A male voice shouted, causing Davina to jump, “why are you back so earl…” he trailed off, noticing Davina.
“Christian, this is Davina. Davina, this is our son.” Al said slowly, seeing how nervous Davina was. He was a younger replica of his dad, tall and muscular. He had dark brown hair and a strong jawline speckled with a five o’clock shadow. Alistair's reputation was nothing compared to his son's. He was cold and calculating. His enemies would rather die than be captured by the young, soon to be, alpha.
“What happened?” Christian asked.
“Well, apparently the silver moon pack thinks they are above showing common decency and think they can abuse a young, defenseless girl.” Cleo spit.
Chris felt the fury rolling off his mom, a rarity in itself. “Those sons of bitches,” Chris spat, “I’ve never been more disgusted in my life. Did you break the treaty?”
“I can’t do that. But they know not to contact us unless it is dire.” Al said. Chris rolled his eyes and went to argue but his father held up a hand to silence him. “Enough, we need to get her to the doctors.”
Anger left Chris’s eyes and softened as he looked at Davina, “yea, we do. Can I carry you?” Davina flinched as he neared her. “I promise I won’t hurt you,” Chris was practically begging, “you look exhausted and it’ll be a hard walk with broken ribs.” He gestured to her side that she was clutching. Davina was skeptical but finally agreed. Chris scooped Davina up gently and cradled her to his chest. He was right, the walk would have been grueling for Davina but he reached it in a matter of minutes. She looked around the large building, squinting from the bright, white lights. The smell of disinfectant instantly gave Davina a headache.
“Hi Alpha, Luna, Chris,” a young nurse chirped, “what’s going on?”
“This is Davina,” Al stated, gesturing to her in Chris's arms, “we suspect broken ribs along with other injuries. As you can see, she is extremely malnourished and doesn’t seem to be healing as quickly as she should.”
“Okay, right this way,” the nurse gestured to the patient's quarters.
“No,” Cleo interrupted, “she’ll be taken to our wing.”
The nurse looked back in surprise. No one but the Alpha family stayed in their wing, “I’ll let Dr. Paige know. She’ll be with you in a few minutes.”
They took Davina to the sectioned off wing and Chris laid her gently on the bed. “Thank you,” Davina whispered. Chris gave her a small smile in return. The young wolf reminded him of his sister. If someone had treated her that way, he would've ripped them to shreds. He was still thinking about running to the silver moon pack to teach them a lesson, but knew it would only cause problems for his father.
“Alpha, Luna,” Dr. Paige greeted as she entered the room.
“Paige,” Cleo stated, “care for her as you would one of us,” she gestured to her family.
“I will, Luna.” Paige said. She walked over to Davina, who was staring at Paige with caution, “ Don’t worry love. I’m only here to help.” She said with a gentle smile. Paige began her assessment, making notes as she went, “Davina, I’m going to give you an IV, where I’ll inject some medication that’ll speed along the healing process. I’m also going to give you a sedative with your permission. It’ll help you sleep tonight while you heal. Sleep is very important to ensure you heal as quickly as possible.”
Davina stared at Paige for a minute before responding. “Okay.” Paige nodded and called the nurse in, who assisted in setting up the IV and injecting the medication and sedatives. Davina fell asleep quickly after that, exhausted from years of sleep deprivation. She never slept well in the silver moon pack. Always in pain or worried someone would grow bored and come find her to take out their anger. Paige motioned for the Alpha family to talk with her outside of the room. They all looked at her expectantly, urging her to speak. “You were correct about the broken ribs. She is covered in bruises, too many to count. She is extremely malnourished, as you suspected. I gave her some medication that will heal her as her wolf should be doing. I suspect her wolf is just as weak as she is, so she is unable to heal her as she would normally. She should be healed in a few days' time as I continue the medication. However, malnutrition is another problem entirely. It will take time to get her back to a healthy weight and diet. I know a dietitian who will be able to create a diet plan, if you wish me to contact her? I would also suggest reaching out to a therapist as she has suffered unimaginable pain and will need to work on her mental health.” Paige finished quietly.
The family took a minute to absorb the information. “Reach out to the dietitian,” Al stated, “and to any good therapists you know.”
“Yes, alpha.” Paige answered.
“Chris, why don’t you go to the packhouse and get some sleep. You’ll need to explain this to your sister in the morning, “ Al stated.
“Oh great. Elsie’s going to freak out at the prospect of a new girl here,” Chris rolled his eyes, “talk about scaring that poor girl.”
Cleo smiled to stifle a laugh. “You know she loves meeting new people and making friends and I think Davina could use some of that, don’t you?”
“I guess,” Chris laughed, “I’ll see you in the morning.” He placed a swift kiss on his mother’s cheek before taking his leave.
