Sam “The Jew” Schmidt is still a book editor in New York City. He currently works for Friedmont Books. He’s no longer involved with my Uncle Cliff, though. From what I’ve learned, Uncle Cliff cheated on him with a blue-eyed waiter the summer after I took Mata Hari and almost murdered the quarterback and Sam kicked him out of their apartment. Uncle Cliff met a pastry chef named Felice Sing who he fell in love with and eventually married. The two live in Trenton, New Jersey.
September. The end of summertime. Sam calls my cell phone and invites me to the Big Apple for the weekend. He has a two-hundred-twenty-five-page novel coming out by Briton Books.
