Chapter 4: An Unexpected Proposal

1936 Words
Sebastian’s POV “Daniel Torres will be at your suite in ten minutes.” Trevor's voice boomed in my ears as I stood in front of the mirror, adjusting the cuff of my shirt. “Good. Let’s hope he agrees to have a conversation this time and not drink from every bottle in the winery until he’s too drunk to take a f*****g piss.” I tell my assistant with an inward growl. This was a meeting I dreaded, not because of the deal I wanted to strike but because of Daniel f*****g Torres. The man was a f*****g pain in the ass who had the Torres empire handed to him after his father died. He was a spoiled brat who knew nothing about business. All he wanted to do was drink, party and f**k all the women New York had to offer. I wouldn’t spend a second with him if I didn’t need him to sell Torres resorts. “If he still doesn’t want to talk maybe we can—” “No, Trevor.” I bite before he finishes, my jaw tightening. “It has to be Torres resorts.” I don’t tell him my reason because I don’t have to. All he needs to know is that I have to get Torres resorts no matter what. Even if it meant smiling and being friendly to Daniel Torres the whole year. Seeing that I still have at least nine minutes before he gets here, I pick up my phone from the bedside table and call the hotel manager. The call connects immediately. “Good morning, Mr Kane.” Francis said nervously. “I believe the matter has been taken care of.”‘I say, not bothering to ask because I am sure he knows better than to disobey me. “O-of course, Sir. I fired her this morning. I apologize once again. That will never happen again.” He says and I nod before ending the call. As I set my phone down, my mind travels back to yesterday. That cleaner. I should have known she was up to no good. It’s a shame she turned out to be a thief. She was annoyingly beautiful. How did someone who looked that good turn out to be a thief? When I had walked out of the bathroom yesterday and seen her crouched beside the bed, the sight had completely caught me off guard. Her dress had been ridiculously small, clinging to every curve like it had been designed to tempt men. And those eyes. Those damn brown eyes. Maybe I had been wrong about one thing. She might not have been a w***e. But she was definitely a thief. Good thing I don’t ever have to see her again. I finished buttoning the middle of my shirt just as the door bell rang. It sounded once and then went off like a mad person was behind the door. Daniel f*****g Torres. The man had no patience! I walked toward the door, irritation building with every aggressive ring of the bell. When I finally pulled the door open, I was ready to tell him exactly what I thought of his behavior. But, as soon as the door opened, the words died in my throat. Standing in front of me was the last person I expected to see. The thief from yesterday. She wasn’t wearing the maid’s uniform this time. Instead, she wore simple jeans and a fitted top that somehow made her look even more striking than she had yesterday. Her dark hair fell loosely around her shoulders, framing a face that was flushed with anger. For a second, I just stared. She was even more beautiful than I remembered. Before I could say a word, she shoved something hard into my chest and started yelling about how I had accused her of stealing. With the watch being in her possession, I wonder what else we can call that. Something about the raw anger in her voice made my chest tighten slightly. I wasn’t sorry about what I did but I was starting to think that I might have been too harsh on her. When tears left her eyes, I realized that I had indeed overreacted. She didn’t look so much like a thief now, or a w***e in that outfit. She looked like a helpless woman who had just lost everything. Fuck. The thought irritated me. Before I could respond, the elevator doors at the end of the hallway opened and a familiar voice echoed down the corridor. Daniel Torres. He stepped out of the elevator with a grin on his face but when he saw her, his grin widened. He was smitten by her. That was a given. Daniel Torres had an eye for women and she was a f*****g eye candy. “Do you have a name?” he asked casually and I watch her hesitate before giving him an answer. “…Alessia.” Alessia. Then he turned toward me. “I didn’t know your secretary was a hot Latina,” he said with a grin. “If I had known that, I would have accepted your meeting requests months ago.” My mind does a quick spin immediately the words leave his mouth. Three months. Three months of me trying to get him to actually listen to me without having to carry his drunken ass or chase w****s away from the meeting room. Three months of trying to buy Torres resorts and now, he was willing to listen to me…because of her. As absurd as it sounded, I knew it was my only option. Once Daniel Torres had set his eyes on a woman, he didn’t hold back until he had her and if he had set his eyes on Alessia, he was going to do everything to have her under him. Even if it meant selling Torres resorts. The opportunity unfolded in my eyes in an instant. Alessia shakes her head to let him know that she isn’t my secretary but before she can speak, I beat her to it. “She just joined us a few days ago,” I interrupt smoothly. Her head snapped toward me in shock, her eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets. Daniel laughs. “Lucky you,” he said before walking into the suite like he owned the place. “Why did you lie? I don’t work for you!” She snapped, her expression shifting from anger to disbelief. “Wait for me at the restaurant downstairs,” I said quietly and her eyes narrowed. Absolutely not.” She said angrily. “Thirty minutes,” I continued. “That’s all I’m asking.” “Why would I do that?” I lowered my voice slightly. “Because I can fix what happened this morning.” I see the hope in her eyes as soon as I speak. Her expression softens slightly. “You can give me my job back?” She asked. “Yes.” I answer quickly. She hesitated for a bit before nodding. “Fine. I’ll wait.” I watched her go before closing the door behind me. Daniel was standing in the middle of the living room with a drink in his hand, still smiling like an i***t. “She’s hot as f**k. Where did you find her?“ he said, his eyes glowing with hunger. “At an interview.” I say nonchalantly and take a seat. “That isn’t why you’re here. We have important matters to discuss, Torres.” He waved a hand dismissively, still in dream land. “We’ll talk about that another day. At a different location.” His grin widened. He took one big gulp from his glass and set it down before turning to leave. “Make sure Alessia is present. There’ll be no meeting without her.” He laughed and headed toward the door. “I have a feeling we’re going to be very good friends.” The door closed behind him a moment later. I stood there for a second before letting out a slow breath. “I can’t believe this.” I shake my head, grab my phone and head to the hotel’s restaurant to meet Alessia. She might not know it yet but I had become desperate. She was my only chance at getting that resort. She was sitting near the window where it was easy to spot her. I slow down for a moment. Daniel wasn’t wrong. She was beautiful. When she noticed me approaching, her expression immediately hardened. “Let’s hear your apology, Mr Kane.” She said quickly. I bite back the smirk that tries to crawl out at her feisty attitude. I usually wouldn’t apologize to anyone. Ever. But, this is different. I need her so, a little ‘I’m sorry’ shouldn’t hurt. “I’m sorry for calling you a thief.” I say as I sit down. She doesn’t look satisfied. “And?” “And for calling you a whore.” “That’s better.” She puffs and then folds her arm. “So, when are you going to tell Francis it was a misunderstanding and get me my job back?” “I have a better proposal.” A frown appears on her full lips. She takes the lower lip in, biting it softly before speaking. “Let me guess, it has something to do with your calling me your secretary in front of that man.” “You’re one smart woman, Alessia.” I admit. “Miss Lopez.” She corrects. My lips stretch into an amused smirk. “Understood, Miss Lopez. I want you to work for me.” Her eyes widen. “What?” “Temporarily.” I clarify. “As my secretary.” She stared at me like I had just insulted her again. “You’re insane.” I leaned forward slightly, deciding to be a little honest with her. “The man you met at my suite is Daniel Torres. Heir to the Torres empire.” I see her eyes widen further, more surprised than shocked. “I have been trying to get him to sign a deal with me for months but he has been…difficult.” Difficult was a nice way to put it. The man had the attention span of a rabbit. She raises her brows and shrugs. “And what has that got to do with me.” “He agreed to have a meeting with me…after seeing you. He thinks you work for me and will only meet with me if you are present so, I need to hire you.” Her expression darkened immediately as she understood what I meant. “You want me to be an escort?!” She half-yells. Thankfully, the hotel restaurant is nearly empty. “That’s not what I meant.” “Then explain.” I sighed. “Just keep his attention long enough for me to negotiate.” She folded her arms. “Why would I help you after everything you did to me?” “Because you need a job.” She didn’t respond but I could see it in her eyes that I was right. Maybe a little too right. “And I’m willing to pay you,” I added. Her eyes flickered slightly. That got her attention. “How much?” “Fifty thousand dollars a month.” Her mouth fell open slightly but she quickly recovered, straightening her back. I see her rack her brain for a few minutes before she finally nods. “Sixty-five and I won’t be sleeping with him.”
