Wrong Impressions

Sebastian’s POV The moment Alessia left my office, I leaned back in my chair and released a breath I didn't know I was holding. The meeting with Alessia had gone better than I expected. Way better than I had expected. I had given her the Torres file with a very clear intention in mind; to prove to her that she wasn't ready to be a real secretary. I had seen how badly she wanted to prove to me that she was made for the job, but I didn't know her capabilities. She had no work experience yet she was so sure she was going to do a good job as Sebastian Kane's secretary. I expected her to fail at the task and come in here a mess, telling me how she was unable to finish up. However, she had done the exact opposite. What she presented wasn't guesswork or something she had crammed through some surface-level reading. It was a structured analysis that most people would only know after being on the project for weeks. "She shouldn't be able to do that," I muttered under my breath. No matter how hard I tried to deny it, I was genuinely impressed. She had shown me she was right. She really didn't belong in a hotel, cleaning rooms. She was too smart for that. Seeing this new side of her made me realize that I really was in trouble. The second I saw her bent against my bed at the hotel, something told me it wouldn't be a good idea to get too close to her. What I didn't expect was that I would end up needing her. Now, thanks to Daniel Torres, I was forced to be in the same space with her. As if on cue, my phone dings, pulling me out of my thoughts. Sighing, I picked up my phone and the frown on my face only stretched longer. Speak of the f*****g devil. Daniel Torres: [I would let my secretary send this mail but I am too excited.] I could already envision the stupid smile on his face as he typed this message. There was more. [Do not forget about our meeting. Have your people book a lounge, just the way I like it.] I couldn't even be surprised. The man acted like he would die if he held a meeting at an office like every normal businessman. It always had to be at a lounge, a bar, or a club. I was about to drop my phone when it dinged again, another message coming from him. This one ruins my mood more than the others did. [Remember, there'll be no meeting without the hot Latina.] Fucker. I exhaled slowly and set the phone down, taking deep breaths to calm myself. "Of course, he would fixate on her," I muttered under my breath. My fingers tapped once against the desk before I pressed the intercom. "Miss Lopez. Prepare a private lounge for the meeting tomorrow. Go over the details with Francis." I instructed and expected a response but the line remained silent. "Alessia?" I called again. Still nothing. I tried a few more times only to be met with the same response. It was at that moment that I realized that there might be a problem. Alessia was new, unfamiliar with the building, and wasn't the type to ignore instructions without reason as she was still trying really hard to please me. Could she have fallen asleep? I mean, she definitely pulled an all-nighter seeing how she delivered her report so effortlessly. I remained in my office for a while until I decided to check, just to be sure. "We are only making sure she's alright," I told myself. "I would do it for any employee of mine." Without thinking further, I stood up and made my way towards her office. The door was open when I arrived but the room was empty. "Where the hell did she go?" It was her first day. Where the hell did she even know in this building? Who did she even know? Francis. He would know. I head to his office, not bothering to call. I had been sitting for too long. When I got to his office, he was typing furiously on his computer like he was being chased. The sight almost made me laugh. "Easy there. You'll break the keyboard." I chuckled, announcing myself. "Mr Kane." He greeted, his fingers hovering over the keyboard as he stared at me with confusion. "Why are you here?" He asked and then dropped his gaze to his phone, wondering if I had called. "Don't worry. I didn't call." I explained. "I can't find Alessa so I thought you would know where she might be." His expressions hardened and I could tell her was as disturbed as I was. "I haven't seen her since I showed her around earlier." He replied, already reaching for his phone and dialing her number. The phone rang and rang but there was no response. After a while, he gave up and stood on his feet. "I should go look for her. She might have missed her way." He said and I nodded in agreement. Something in me wanted to join in the search, I didn't want to start explaining to my staff why I was searching for my new secretary when Francis was already doing it. "I'll be in my office," I said and turned to leave with him following behind. But, as soon as we stepped out of his office, I was met with an extremely unpleasant sight. Alessia was a few steps away from Francis's office and the worst part, Nathaniel Graham was beside her. Of all people! They seemed to be engrossed in a lighthearted conversation and it was either that Nathaniel was the funniest man on earth or Alessia loved to laugh. It had to be one of the two because why the hell was she giggling so much? The sight brought a scowl to my face. Alessia was the first to spot me and as soon as he did, the smile on her face vanished like I was some killjoy. Better live up to my title then. "And here I was wondering where you had disappeared to. I didn't know you were out making new friends already." I said as I approached them, keeping my voice as calm as possible. "M-mr Kane." Alessia stuttered, guilt written all over her face. Great! At least she knew she was wrong. "That isn't the case, sir." She starts. "I was looking for Francis's office when I stumbled into Nate's office and he offered to help." She explained, smiling at him like he was some kind of saviour. That, however, was the least of my worries currently. Why the hell was she calling him Nate? When the hell did they meet to make them be on a first-name basis already? Was I bothered? f**k yes! I wouldn't be this bothered if it were a normal employee but it was Nathaniel f*****g Graham. No one knew this dude more than I did and if he said he was bad news for Alessia then he was because the man standing before me was my f*****g best friend. He must have seen the look on my face because he flashed me that stupid smirk of his. "Someone looks pissed."
