Chapter 3

525 Words
The next afternoon, I was in the middle of a project meeting with a human client when Ryan started blowing up my phone. His voice was shaking. "Freya, what are you doing? Sienna and I came back to the house and there's a real estate agent here? They say you're putting it on the market, they're asking us to move our stuff out!" "Yeah," I said, light. "I've already given the agent full authority to sell." Ryan cracked. "Freya, we've been bonded for two years. You're going to sell our Den just like that, without a single word to me?" "Where am I supposed to live? Where am I supposed to put my streaming setup? I won't let you sell this house!" The brass on this man. First of all, the house was my family's. My parents' gift to me, signed over before he ever moved in as my mate. Second of all, after the things he and Sienna had done in those rooms behind my back, the smell of them rutting in my own walls, how did he have the gall to sound this self-righteous? "I'm selling," I said. "This is Goldmane family property. You have no standing." I was about to hang up when I heard Sienna behind him. "Ryan… I feel sick. I'm gonna throw up…" For a beat, I went still. Then I cut the call anyway. That evening, their stream came up in my feed. They opened with a heavily suggestive Wound-Licking roleplay, their newest gimmick, and then transitioned into a casual chat segment. Ryan let out a rueful laugh. "Freya threw Sienna and me out. I couldn't stand to watch Sienna rough it, so I rented a little forest cabin, just somewhere for us to stay for now." Sienna chimed in. "Once my sister calms down, we'll move back in together. I love my sister. I always will." I didn't have to scroll the chat to know what people were saying about me. I ignored it and dialed the Alpha Council's disciplinary office instead. "Good evening. I filed a complaint against Warrior Ryan for desecration of the sacred ritual,I wanted to check on the timeline." The voice on the other end was clipped and procedural. "Three business days. You filed yesterday, please give us two more." On my screen, Ryan and Sienna kept laughing, kept bantering. I wondered, with quiet curiosity, whether they'd still be laughing in two days. What surprised me was that, somehow, word of my complaint got back to Ryan. Late that night, he started spamming me. [Freya, the streams are just for money. Throwing us out of the house was bad enough. Now you're reporting my account? You miserable b***h!] [You don't actually think this complaint is going to land, do you? Sienna and I are CLEAN. On what grounds is the Council going to discipline me?] [Keep losing your s**t like this and I swear to the Moon I'll Reject you for real.] And his last message: [Day after tomorrow is Sienna's Awakening anniversary. I'm throwing her a party at the Southside Grand Hotel. Sienna's inviting you. Six p.m. Don't be late.] Funny coincidence. Same date, same venue as my new Mating Ceremony.
