Chapter 1: Helpless

2025 Words
5:45 am *Raindrops* The sound of the rain wake me up from my sleep. I got up from my bed then I made a cup of coffee to warm my self from this cold weather. I stood infront of an open window then I sip my coffee while the cold breeze touch my skin. It's early in the morning, I still have plenty of time to prepare for school. Today is monday, the day which most of us hated. My life might seem very peaceful to you, but no, it's a total chaos. School might be fun to others but it's hell for me. I change my clothes, ate breakfast, then I prepared my lunchbox for school. I checked all the notes that I needed to bring before I went to school. I only ride my bicycle to go to school since it's not that far. I parked my bicycle at the bicycle parking area then I headed straight to the class. I sat at the back then I decided to review all the notes and assignments while the teacher is still not here. Few minutes later, a group of students entered the room. The demons have arrived. They went straight to my sit to get their assignments they told me to do. "Assignment?" Tasha said while arching her brow at me. I silently lend their notes. Rica, the other girl took it from my hand violently. "If we don't get a perfect score with this, I will make sure you'll never see the sun again." Tasha said as she left. They're my bullies. I know, it's kinda immature but that is how they are. I just rolled my eyes and decided to nap until the class starts. Lunch time. I grab my bag and went to the garden to eat my lunch. I usually eat my lunch in the garden because there is no one here and I can have my lunch peacefully. I used to eat at the canteen and guess what? I never had a chance to eat my lunch properly. If they do not throw it away, they will spit on it. If they don't play with it, they'll pour it on my head. It was a total hell. Tasha, Rica, Quill, and their puppet, Nick, they are the demons of my life who made my living miserable. After taking my lunch, I waited for my next class at the garden while reviewing my notes when someone suddenly grabbed it. Damn it, not at this place. "Having a peaceful time?" Tasha stated while playing with my notes. "...not really." I answered in low voice. "oh really?" She smiled. She walks closer causing me to step back until I was cornered. "Do you want to have fun?" She asked while arching me a brow. It's her habit. I remained silent which made her sighed. She walked few steps backward. She raised my notes with her both hands. No, not my notebook. It has all my notes! I was about to grab my notebook when she hurriedly tore them again and again. F*ck. I glared at her. "What? You're going to fight back?" Tasha ask while sneering at me. I want to, but I can't. I'm a scholar at this university and fighting her will cause me to lose my scholarship. Tasha's mother is the owner of this university, and I already told her about Tasha's bullying on me but she just told me to shut up or I will lose my scholarship. I have no power to fight her back, and I don't have the courage to confront her. I am not confident with what I have and what can I do. All I can do right now is to endure this hell until I can get out of this place. Dismissal. I went straight home to change my clothes and attend my training session, shooting range. Yeah, I hold guns. I used to train in archery before for 4 consecutive years and currently training for shooting range for 2 years already. Not to brag but I'm good at targets and shooting. If only I can shoot the heads of those demons, but of course I won't do that, unless I want to ruin my life. Next day, during class. We're now having our oral recitation for philosophy and the four of them are now sitting beside me, expecting me to give them an answer the moment they were asked. Actually, I haven't been able to review because of my training yesterday, so I don't know if I can give them an answer. "Okay class, you know what we're doing today right?" Professor asked. Most of us pretended like we don't know anything. "As what I've remember, we're just going to have a class, professor." Rica stated, hoping for the professor to be tricked but she just nodded. "Okay, Rica please stand up." Professor. "Me?" Rica asked pointing herself. Professor nodded while pressing her lips together. "You're question is, what is philosophy?" Professor asked. I felt her hand tapping my arm, asking for an answer. I bowed my head so that the professor won't notice me, then I whispered the answer. "Study of knowledge, reality, reasoning." I whispered. It's incomplete but that would do. "Study of knowledge, reality and reasoning." Rica confidently answered. Tsk. As if she can answer that question without me. I rolled my eyes in secret. "Okay, thank you. Next will be Irene." Professor. I stand up right away as soon as I've heard my name. "Okay, Ms. Irene, what is the difference between cynicism and stoicism?" Professor asked. "Stoicism is about enduring hardships without any complains, on the other hand, cynicism is being pessimistic about everything in this world." I answered. "Correct. Now, let me ask you Ms. Irene, where do you think you belong between the two?" Professor asked while leaning on the table. "In between." I answered without any hesitation. "Why do you think so?" Professor. I was about to answer her question, but then I realize... "I don't think justifying my answer would be necessary, especially because it's something personal." I stated. I don't want to talk about my shitty life infront of these large number of students. "Oh, I'm sorry. Let's move on." Professor. "The next student will be Tasha." Professor said. Tasha confidently stood up, as if she can answer every question thrown at her by the prof. "Who are the first three philosophers?" Professor asked. Tasha remained silent. She's playing with her fingers while she keeps stepping on my shoes. If she want me to give her an answer she must treat me properly, but even if she did, I can't give her anything because I do not know the answer, which only means, I am f*ck up after this class. She stepped really hard on my foot causing me to react. "Aww!" I shouted. "Is anything wrong Ms. Irene?" Professor asked. "Nothing Professor." I answered. Tasha keeps glaring at me. "I'm sorry." I whispered to Tasha. "Ms. Tasha? No answer?" Professor. Seconds had passed but she just remained silent. "Okay, please sit down Ms. Tasha. You look very confident when you stood up making me expect that you can answer any questions I will ask you, but you only disappoint me." Professor stated while shaking her head. The whole class laughed at what the professor have said. Tasha rushed to grab her bag, then she whispered on my ears, "You're dead." Tasha said angrily. She walked out of the class. Rica, Quill and Jerick then followed her. Dismissal. I rushed at the bicycle parking area only to find out that my bicycle's chain was missing. Not again. T_T I looked around to find my chain incase they threw it somewhere but nothing. Damn it, I just bought this bicycle, now it has no chain. Argh! Those demons. Minutes had passed, I decided to just walk home while pushing my poor bike. It's already 6:48 pm and I'm still walking home. The surroundings were already dark and there were no more people around. I decided to sing a song to make myself feel better. "Feeling like your life's an illusion And lately, you're secluded Thinking you'll never get your chance Feeling like you got no solution It's only 'cause you're human No control, it's out of your hands" I was happily singing when someone suddenly talked. "You have a nice voice." Someone said. I turned to see who was talking, but then, he covered my head with a sack and dragged me somewhere. "Let me go!" I shouted while I'm trying to get away. "I said let me go!" I shouted again and again but he didn't listen. He keeps dragging me somewhere. The ground has a lot of grass and I think he's dragging me near the lake. "Help!" I shouted hoping that someone can hear me. "Stop shouting, it's useless." He said. Hearing his voice made me think. His voice, I think I heard it before. "Where are you dragging me?" I asked, expecting him to answer. "Somewhere special." He answered. It's Jerick. I know it's him. Seconds later, he stopped dragging me, then someone tied my legs and hands. I can smell a smoke of cigarette and alcohol. He's not alone. Someone suddenly grabbed my chin. "Who are you?" I asked with my nervous voice. "Are you scared?" A voice infront of me asked. Quill's voice. "Wha-what are you doing to me?" I asked, stuttering. "Did you enjoy making fun of me on class?" Another voice spoke. Tasha's voice. "What do you mean? Tasha, I didn't do anything." I said. "You recognized my voice, you should remember as well what you did earlier." Tasha said then she leans closer to me as I can already feel her breath. "I am the daughter of the owner of that prestigious university and you embarrased me in front of the whole class." She said then a heavy slap landed on my chick. "Tasha, I didn't mean to. I really don't know the answer to that question." I explained but she didn't listen and slapped me again. "You don't? You don't know?" She gripped my jaw tightly while someone was pulling my hair from the back. "Tasha, please stop." "You know what I hate the most? Being embarrassed and that's what you just did to me!" She exclaimed. "I'm sorry, Tasha." I said while enduring the pain they are giving to me. "Sorry? Huh? Sorry?" Another heavy slap landed on my face. "If you just reviewed the lesson, you'll be able to give me an answer and I wouldn't have been embarrassed!" she said then slapped me again and again making me cry in pain. "Tasha, please stop." I pleased. "Tasha, please stop." Quill said mockingly, then they laughed. I tried to fight back but I cannot. I feel dizzy, weak and I feel like I'm going to pass out. I feel helpless. "A lowly person like you must respect an elite person like me." She proudly said to my face then she stared to my eyes. "Anger, pain, shame, resentment, I can see it all in your eyes." She chuckled. "Blame your parents for giving birth to you. I mean, This world they have brought to you has given nothing but misery." Tasha said as she stood up. "Or maybe, you're just unlucky." Tasha said. She snapped her fingers as she walks away then someone put the sack on my head again, then dragged me to the lake. Seconds later, I found myself underwater, drowning. I tried to swim but I felt too weak. "Help..." I murmured. The sack was removed from my head by the water. Then I saw the full moon shining brightly at night. A smile formed on my lips before I completely lost my consciousness. . . . . . . Out of nowhere, I suddenly opened my eyes and I still found myself underwater. I swam and was surprised that I already have enough strength to swim. When I got up from the bottom I was shock to see the surroundings. Where am I? . . .
