The summer air never felt so cold against my fur. I had to consciously dodge the trees and brush as I ran as fast as I could. Teeth nipped at my heels, forcing me to run faster and farther away from my home. My body ached from running so far at such a fast speed. I couldn’t slow down. I wouldn’t slow down. My heart ached while my mind was torn apart from the voices.
‘Traitor!’
‘How could you betray your own pack?!’
My head hurt as the mind links continued but I had to push on. I couldn’t let them slow me down in case the teeth nipping at me decided to sink into flesh. Soon, the mind links began to fade as we grew closer to the border. Only a little further, and I could slow down. My heart raced as I passed the border and came to a stop a few meters past it. I looked back to see my entire pack growling and snapping at my from the border. My eyes stopped at the brown wolf with green eyes. My mate, Archer, looked back at me with somber eyes. The growls died down as a big black wolf, Alpha Nathan, stepped forward. He looked at Archer and growled softly. Now that I was past the pack lines, all mind links were cut off from me. After a moment, Archer shifted to his human form, not bothering to put on his shorts. His green eyes still held my blue eyes as he spoke. “Esmeray, I need you to shift.”
I nodded as I shifted from my smaller black wolf form into my human form. I didn’t bother clothing myself either. A bag was thrown at me from one of the wolves, catching me off guard. It must’ve been the clothes and supplies I was allowed to have. I didn’t look away from Archer for longer than a few moments, but it was long enough to for him to get out what he needed to say. With a sharp intake of breath, he spoke the words no mate wanted to hear. “I, Archer Lusine, take back my word as a mate and reject you, Esmeray Mahina.”
His words hit my hard like a grenade. No matter how much I tried to prepare for the words, I still couldn’t breathe as pain filled my chest as the ties broke within me. I had to fight the tears filling my eyes as I nodded to his words, accepting them. After a moment, Alpha Nathan shifted in his human form. He threw on a pair of shorts before turning to me and speaking in his strong, alpha voice. “I, Nathan Miller, Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack, sentence you, Esmeray Mahina , to exile from this day until your last.”
I felt another pain in my chest as my ties with my pack were cut. I had nothing, just a black hole in my chest trying to cave my body in from the pain. I sucked in a breath and held back the sob I could feel building. The pack turned away from me, as the Alpha and my ex mate shifted back and ran off into the darkness. I picked up the bag that was thrown at me. I nodded again as I accepted the words. This was my punishment, all because of a choice I shouldn’t have made. Why I saved that vampire... I’ll never know what came over me.
