The hospital room smelled of antiseptic and desperation. The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor filled the sterile air, each electronic pulse a mocking reminder that Asher's heart still beat while his wolf remained trapped in darkness. Scarlet sat hunched in the uncomfortable VIP chair, her fingers wrapped around her cousin's limp wrist like a lifeline.
