Chapter 4 Meet Athena

Steph's POV

"Remington has been out for hours. What is going on? Why hasn't she woken up yet?" I needed answers and the pack doctor was taking too long with the results. I have never been this worried in my life. She was been here since last night and it was mid day already. No one knew why she passed out or how long to expect her to be this way either. It was a waiting game. 

"How is she? Has anything changed since last night?" Amelia came in and spoke before I even knew she was there. She has a very worried look on her face and looked like she hadn't slept since last night either. 

"Nothing has changed and they still don't have any answers. No one has seen anything like this before so they are all just as confused as the rest of us. Maybe we should go talk in the hall. I need to ask you a few things."

As we left the room, I closed the door slowly making sure I didn't disturb Remington.

   "Could this be happening because she could have a special ability like you? The doctors have never seen anything like this before, but they also have never seen a wolf with abilities like you either. You being Remingtons biological grandmother, could she have gotten it from you?"

  "Honestly, I couldn't tell you. When my wolf awakened, I didn't even know she was coming. I just woke up and she was there. Then again, I have never known anyone to have a painful awakening either. I would have to consult the rest of the elders and see what they know, as of right now all we can do is wait and hope she wakes up soon. By the way, she doesn't know I am her grandmother yet. I didn't show her  those memories yet because I didn't want to overwhelm her yesterday. If you could wait for me to tell her that would be wonderful." Before I could even answer, she turned to walk away, headed back to consult the rest of the elders and see about answers. This was going to be the longest wait of my life and I hope Sweets pulls out soon.

Remington's POV

I woke up in a place I had never been before. It didn't seem like an actual place though. There was nothing all around other than forest trees. I was standing in a circle clearing with just the light from the moon directly above me. 

Where am I? 

I started walking but no matter which direction I went always ended up back where I started. Giving up, I layed down on a large rock and just closed my eyes. Maybe it was just a dream and I was going to wake u soon.

"Hello Remington." A voice chimed out of nowhere startling me.

"Who's there? Where are you?"

"I'm Athena and I am your wolf. I have waited so long to finally speak with you. I am so happy that you are finally here."

"Where is here? How did I get here?"

"I brought you here. We have a lot we need to talk and this was the only place I could think that would work where no one would be able to even hear us. I couldn't have anyone listening in. We are in our mind. This is where I stay when you haven't shifted. "

"So you are stuck here? You can't hear anything or see anything unless I shift? Isn't it boring?"

"I can hear everything you hear if I want to or I can choose to ignore it and just stay here and it can be but I manage.That's not why I brought you here though, we have a lot to talk about. To start with you are not a normal wolf Rem, you are special and contain special abilities. That's why my awakening was so painful. People are going to try to get to you and try to use us for their own person gain. You need to be careful who you trust and who you show us to.

"What? What abilities? What do you mean a special wolf? I just found out about you literally yesterday."

"In all good time child. All will be revealed when you are ready. Now don't tell anyone what I have told you. It's time to wake up."

I get thrown back into reality and next thing I know I'm gasping for air and being blinded hospital lights.How long have I been here? I was at the pack house not that long ago right?

"What happened? Why am I here?"

"Sweets, you passed out at the house. You have been unconscious for 18 hours now. What happened?"

"I honestly don't know. One minute I'm looking for you to get pajamas, next its like I'm in a void talking to my wolf."

"What? That never has happened to me. What did you talk to her about?"

"Don't tell her about anything we talked about. No one can know just yet." Athena broke through before I could answer Steph. 

"She just introduced herself. Her names Athena and she said she can't wait until our first shift." Not telling her everything was eating at me. I always told her everything. But if Athena told me not to then I wouldn't for now.

Steph just looked at me puzzled clearly able to see I wasn't being completely truthful to her. I just dropped my eyes from her gaze, hoping that she would drop it. Thankfully she did and just let out a sigh. 

"How long do I have to be here? I really am ok and kinda want to just get back to my old house to get my things." Steph got up and went to the door to ask a nurse about me getting released and i found this a perfect time to talk to Athena without her knowing.

"Athena, why can't I tell Steph about what we are? She is my best friend and would never hurt me."

"If you feel that strong about it, I can not stop you. I just want you to be smart about it is all."

"Thank you."

I ended my chat with Athena right as Steph walked in the room smiling.

"You get to go home if your up for it. You just have to take it easy. So I will be the one packing up your stuff for you."

"Yes ma'am you don't have to tell me twice. Let's get out of here. I hate hospitals."
