Nanny Rose, noticing Jennifer Sullivan's hesitation, said, “Young Mistress, Mrs. Eleanor’s room is the second door on the left after you go upstairs.” Jennifer, filled with nervous anticipation, made her way to Mrs. Eleanor’s room. She found Mrs. Eleanor wearing the cardigan Jennifer had gifted her, smiling gently while holding a brown leather document folder. “Nana, you wanted to see me?” Jennifer asked from the doorway. Eleanor beckoned her closer. “Come, sit by me.” Jennifer noted that Eleanor didn’t seem upset or angry—she appeared to be in good spirits. Relieved, she walked into the room and sat next to her. “Have you and Quentin been fighting?” Eleanor asked. “I’ve noticed that you two may be together every day, but there’s no real connection, no eye contact. What’s going on?”
