“Not for long.” I stopped as best as I could. “Forget about, that okay. I trust you to the point that you are going to get your room back. And on top of that you need the sun. How much sleep did you think you got?”
“I don't know.”
“Okay well this will help.” I looked down and in his hand was a rag. From behind me a voice came and I know that it was the boy.
“If you do that to her, without her having anything in her, you will kill her and I'm sure you don't want to kill her that way.” I looked Louise. He put it down and walked out of the room. I smiled as I turned around to see the boy but once again he was gone.
I ate and told him that I would go to sleep without the drug and he let me. I was happy for the first time of being there but yet I didn't want to be. I guess I was happy because I got to sleep in a warm bed and because I didn't have anything on my hands.
I laid there for about an hour and then turn on my side and froze. The sat on the floor with his face in the shadows.
“Will I ever see your face?” I asked. He didn’t answer. “What’s your name?” I asked again.
He still didn’t answer. I thought about a question. “Are you here to hurt me or help me?”
“I’m here to help to the best I can and to make sure you stay alive for your family.”
“Thank you.” I said with a hit of a smile.
“You’re welcome Nora, and I promise you that I will keep you safe as much as I can.” I closed my eyes and thought about my family and friend. But most of all I thought about Sean. If he will be there for me when I get home. Or if he moved on and I’d be alone when I got home.
“Do you miss him?” I jump in shock that he was still on the floor.
“Miss who?”
“Your boyfriend.”
“How do you know that’s who I’m thinking about?”
“Your thoughts are open. I can see it in your eyes.”
“But my eyes were closed so how did you know?”
“I guessed and you answered easily.”
I didn’t say a word after that. Hours went back and he was still there.
He moved his legs out and then asked me if I was still awake.
“Yeah I’m still up.”
“I can teach you to hide what you’re thinking.”
“How can you do that?” He didn’t answer for a bit.
“It’s going to be really hard to do but it will be easy after you get it down.”
I looked at him. ”How?”
“You will learn in time but you need to get some sleep. Good night, sweet dreams.”
There was no dream that night but when I woke to hear nothing. Rolling over to my other I laid there be a bit before get up. I slowing walked down the stairs and in to the living room. I walked around the house and couldn't see or hear anyone. I walked in a room that was filled with books. I looked around and found books that my dad would read to me when I was a kid. I looked deeper and found books that I would read back at home. I pulled the books out and then put them on a table. I walked into the kitchen and saw a date book on the wall. I run to it looking at the date. April tenth. I fell to the ground. I thought about it all. All that is going on. No one even thought about coming to find me? Or had they and couldn’t find me? I run into the back yard not knowing what to do. I looked around me. Walking to the gate and sitting down on the grass. The yard was bigger than I've seen. I mean mine was big but not this big. I looked at the house that was two stories high and was about three times the size of my moms and step-dads. I loved it but in the end it all came down to the point that I wasn't here on my own~free~will. I know where the door was to the gate and I know that I could run but I didn't. For some reason I stayed.
I didn’t know where to go. Or what to do. So I just sated down, and pull my knees to my cheats.
I must of fell asleep cause when I woke up I was lying down on the couch. Sitting up I saw that the time was close to ten. I jumped at the sound of a guy walking up to me.
“Sorry I didn't mean to scare you.”
“Umm it's okay.”
“You sure?”
“Yes I'm sure.”
He walked into the light holding out his arm. “I'm Lux.”
“Well it's nice to meet you Lux. I think?”
“Well with the fact that you don't know me I'm sure that you would be saying that.”
I smile up at him. “I'm Nora.”
“Nice to meet you Nora.”
“How did I get in here?”
“Umm I bought you in and laid you down on the couch so you could sleep.”
“Why?”
“Well because you were out on the hard ground and you didn't look comfortable.”
“But my question is why did you stay?”
“What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean. That you had that chance to run, to get away from him. But you didn't. You stay knowing what is going to happen to you.”
“Yes I do know what going to happen and, well, if I was to run then I would die faster.” I said, and then added. “I don’t know where I am.”
“Wait what? You know that he would never hurt you.”
“Well look at everything that he has done to me so far. You know that if he was too...”
Louise walked into the room. He looked at Lux and then down to me on the coach and smiled.
“So how was your day Nora?”
“Where were you all day?” I answered with a question.
“Why didn't you leave?” He asked with on as well.
“Why did you trust me?”
“Well I did, didn't I?”
“Why are you answering the question with a question?” His anger was showing in his face now.
“Why shouldn't I?” I said with a smirk.
“Fine then be that way. You can go back to your room now.”
“You're not my dad. And you will never be anything to me!” I yelled out.
“Don't say that.”
“Well guess what, I just did.”
I walked to the door. And then stopped and turned to him. “Why are you doing this to me?”
He laughed at me. “You really don't remember do you?”
“Remember what, no I don't.”
“Will sit.”
“I don't think so.”
“Fine then be that way. But there are things that you don't know about your dad...”
Lux looked at me and then Louise and almost ran out of the room. Before Louise stopped him. “And why are you leaving?” He said without looking away from me. Lux stopped walking and looked at us.
“Because you guys need to speak with each other.” And with that he was gone.
I looked at him and started walking away as well as Lux.
“Why are you walking away?”
“Because you're saying that there are things about my father that are not true.”
“I'm not saying thing about your father. I'm telling you the truth.”
I stopped. Turned. Walked back to him. I didn’t know until now how tall he was. He stood maybe just over six-five. “You have no right to speak of my father. You don’t know him-“
He went to speak. “Don’t you dare speak.” I said before going on. “All you are is a crazy k********g basted. That doesn’t know if you want to kill me or whatever it is that you’re thinking about doing to me. But if it was up to me I would have made sure you killed me mouths ago. I would be better died then alive wanting for you to kill me.”
He grabbed me by the neck and pulled me up to meet his eyes. “Is that what you really want, to be died?”
I just looked at him. “Yes!” He throws me to the floor like it was nothing and walked away.
When I could breathe again I slow got to my feet. Once I was in the room I know that I wanted out of the house. I wanted people to see me, I wanted to go home. Back to my family. All I need to do is find out where I am. I looked out into the night sky and the only thing that I could see is trees. I laid down on the bed and the next thing I know I was waking up to the sun in my eyes.
