The room went silent. So silent it was almost suffocating. Then, slowly, as if it physically hurt to speak, I heard the Alpha grate out, "Is it permanent?" He asked. I was also curious to know what they would say. I listened intently, hanging on the other man's next words. I did not want to be blind permanently... I'd already had just about enough of it.
"The doctor said we wont know for awhile but hes fairly certain its reversible. It depends on her Wolf and its healing abilities." A soft, menacing growl reverberated through the holding cells. I trembled...but not from fear. His voice... I snapped back to attention when he spoke again. Why was I so attentive to everything this man did??
"Move her to the house." He said. My blood ran cold. WHAT??? Why was he moving me to a house?? Was I only in a temporary holding cell? What did the house have in store for me and where was it? Then it hit me. They were separating me from my Alpha and his mate! If they did that, I may not be able to help my pack or myself!
"I'd prefer to stay here with my pack." I said softly, but with more firmness in my voice than I had EVER dared utter. I heard a soft laugh, it was the other man. I assumed he was the Beta with how the Alpha spoke to him and how he responded. He had laughed, but it had not sounded...mean.
"Red..." the Alpha said softly, "They are not your true pack, do not feel pain for them." Then the blobs turned and left the room.
What the hell is that supposed to mean?! I wanted to scream, but my head had started to pound again, I'd over stressed myself and taxed all my energy. My eyes slid closed of their own accord, and I only knew blackness once more...
Garreth
"Dean, I want you to put her in the room in my wing of the house." I said. I intended to keep a close eye on her, and to keep Levi away from her as much as possible. He nodded and left to take care of the transfer. I watched Reds room for a moment before sighing and rubbing my temples. This is going to be a shitshow, I thought. Jester chuckled in my head. You have a penchant for such things, my friend. Rolling my eyes I shook my head. Alright then, you ready for this one? I asked. Lead on, Captain my Captain. I groaned and headed towards the Alpha's cell.
An Omega met me at the cell door, ready to assist me if needed with supplies. Two of my best warriors, Maya and Jakob, stood on either side of the cell door, guarding not only myself but Red as well. They knew what was at stake. Unlocking the cell, Maya stood to my side watching the prisoner as I went in alone. She shut the door behind me and locked it again.
"Let me out of this cell and release my pack, GARRETH." Alpha Slater glared at me, trying to intimidate me. Being 3 years my senior, he believed he was stronger than me. Well, he was about to find out quite the opposite. I smiled and took a seat on the concrete bed built against the wall. I did this for two reasons, one so he would believe I had let my guard down, and two, it made him turn his back on the door. Meaning if he tried anything, Maya and Jakob would be able to reach him easily.
"Let's chat, shall we?" I said, crossing one leg over the other in a relaxed position. Are you sure of this, Dean? Jester asked quietly in my head. I nodded mentally and he understood. Slater eyed me suspiciously.
"I don't have anything to say to you, traitor." He said calmly. Knowing that comment would show up at some point, I shrugged.
"You may see me as a traitor, but it is not your pack that is meant to wield the power of the Goddess, Alpha Slater. And you know this, yet you fight when the rightful Pack comes to claim it? Doesn't seem so traitorous to me." I glanced at him as I finished speaking, waiting for his response. He reacted with a sharp growl.
"This pack is NOT worthy of the Goddess!" He snapped. "You are a child, Garreth, and the power must remain safe with the guardians." The first spark of anger lit low in my belly. The Nettle Valley Pack was only meant to protect the Jade Wolf, yet they refused to hand her over to the rightful Pack as told by the Clerics??
"The Ancient Clerics have SPOKEN, Slater. You are not to keep her from us. And now that she is here, you will never have the chance to torment her again." I said calmly, remembering the things my scouts had returned to tell me of her care. His fists clenched and his face flushed with anger. Watching his eyes, I saw only hatred.
"MY people need her MORE! It is not fair of the Goddess to reward those that already have everything and leave our pack defenseless!" He yelled.
"You know it is not for us to decide what the Goddess wants. And as such, your words have spoken much about you and your pack. You will be reported to the Council, and I will see to it you are removed as Alpha and your people punished for their actions against the Goddess and her desires." I stood to leave, and as I neared him to walk past, he swung, screaming as he did, "You bastard!" I turned as his fist swung from my side and grabbed his arm, pinning it behind his back. Slamming him into the wall, I twisted until he shrieked.
"Next time you try, Alpha Slater, you will be Challenged, and keep in mind, I will humiliate you before your entire pack before ending your miserable life." I growled in his ear. I spun him around, as an afterthought and kneed him in the groin. "Red says hi." I growled as I walked out, hearing him thud to the ground groaning in agony as Maya locked the cell behind me.
"Well said, Alpha." She grinned. I laughed and shook my head.
"Don't start, Maya."
"Oh, but Alpha, you're so poetic!" She gushed, the sarcasm obvious in her giggle. Jakob chuckled beside her.
"I don't know, Alpha, watching those dead eyes sparkle with tears of pain, it DID seem as though you got a point across." He said.
"Don't encourage her Jakob!" I said. Then I glanced at the girl in the last holding cell.
"Make sure shes comfortable and safe. Red will want to know she is well taken care of. It will calm her when we speak to her." I said gently and headed back to the main house. I DESPERATELY needed a shower and sleep.
I let Dean know I'd be putting up a block to my pack link for a few hours and to call my cell in an emergency, walking down the hall. I stopped momentarily at the door across the hall from mine. It was silent in the room, and half of me wanted to go in and see her. But I knew I should wait. So I turned and made my way into the shower in my own room.
As the hot water slid down my face and body I though about Red. Why is she affecting me this way?? I asked Jester. You know why, Dean. She is the Jade Wolf. And our mate. Confused I shook my head. How CAN she be? I'm not worthy of the Jade Wolf. I am only to bring her home to her destined Pack. Jester laughed in my head. What exactly did you think that meant, my cotton-headed co-host? No, this can't be right, I have to speak to the Council. I do not want to be the one that screws with the balance of the entirety of our species. Jester chuckled. I think the only thing you're meant to screw is her...
Muttering to myself as I made my way to my bed, I cursed smart assed wolves and their nonsense. Jester chuckled in my head as I fell asleep. You do know, she does not even realize. She has no wolf. We must be careful with her, Garreth. Shit...
