Chapter 3 - Eat Me

"I can't believe this is happening!" I scream. While Vicky is just casually sitting on the bed painting her nails. "I don't know what to tell you Mary, other than the fact that Ace is arrogant and hot." She said whilst blowing on her wet fingers.

"You forgot to mention narcissistic, cocky, and a total ass." I say. "He does have a really nice ass." Vicky laughs. "Come on V this isn't funny. Theo is going to act weird around me now. I mean I thought he was starting to like me." I pout. "Mary I think he does like you." She states. "Not anymore! He probably thinks I'm some weirdo after he found out I wrote his name so many times."

All of a sudden we hear footsteps coming up the stairs. "Quick get down." I whisper to Vicky. She gets under my bed and I act asleep. "Sweetheart save that talk for tomorrow, Mary is sick." I hear my mom say. "Alright." He answers. I look at the clock and it reads 9:30 which means lights out. "Hey you want to go to Sweet Treats, I'm craving some pie." Vicky asks. Talia's Sweet Treats is a bakery that has been running for 60 years. I work there over the summer. After we change out of our pajamas we jump out my window and walk to Talia's.

Once we get there we both internally scream. f**k my life. "Did you know Theo, Ace, the gang of jocks and pests were going to be here." I ask, you can hear the panic in my voice. "No I swear. But you know what, show them that you're better than this. That you don't care what other people think." Vicky says trying to comfort me. "I don't care what other people think. But I do care what Theo thinks. Oh god I'm going to die." I groan pinching my nose. "Look why don't we go inside and ask Betty if we can go into the break room to eat, we're like best friends with her." Vicky says. "Yeah okay."

I genuinely believe that if it weren't for the stupid chimes on the door, no one would have noticed us walk in. But of course they did and all the roaches were all snickering. "Betty!" Vicky yelled. Right on cue out comes a little old lady with white hair, a light blue dress, and an apron stained with flour. "Hey Betty." I greet her. "Mary you should start working during the school year instead of just the summer, I could use a hand you know." She says with smile. "I think I will. But Betty is it okay if we eat in the break room, there's some people here that don't like us." I whisper. "Are you part of a gang Mary?!" She yells. And the attention is back on us. "No betty it's just those kids are bad apples." Vicky laughs. "Oh well of course you guys can, pick what you want." Since it was the end of the night all the pastries would either be given away or thrown away. "Betty you wouldn't happen to have a nice warm blueberry pie lying around here somewhere would you?" Vicky asks. "I'm sorry Vicky the last blueberry pie went to that couple of there." Betty points to Ace and Jenna. "I'm sure he would be willing to share a slice if you asked." Betty said. Vicky groaned next thing I know she's walking over to their table. I watch this interaction behind the counter while eating a scone. "Hey you guys wouldn't mind if I could get a slice, this is the last blueberry pie, here's 6 bucks." 6 dollars for one slice? Wow Vicky you must really be craving that. "You want some pie?" Jenna asked. Vicky nodded. "Well here you go!" Jenna said grabbing a chunk of pie and throwing it in Vicky's face. Which lead to some parts landing on mine as well "Thanks." Vicky said while walking away.

Meanwhile the group just sits there laughing. Not for long though. I grab a pitcher of maple syrup and chocolate syrup and walk over to Jenna. "Hey asswipe." When she turns around I pour both pitchers on top of her head. She screams. "You b***h!" She yells. Before I could say anything someone interjects. "No you listen here, leave the girls alone and get the hell out my bakery." Betty yells. I look at her stunned. "You know what old lady, you're gonna die soon." She states. "Not soon enough when I have to listen to bitches like you." Betty answers. "You heard her, get out." I say. She scoffs and leaves. And of course because Jenna is the life of the party the jocks and her gang of idiots leave as well. After them Theo follows but before he leaves he turns to me "you're pretty cool Mary, see you tomorrow." He says. "I-I uh see you!" I doubt he heard me because he was already out the door. "I-I-I" Ace mocks me. "Shut up." I roll my eyes. He swipes his thumb across my cheek collecting some of the blueberry filling that hit me,then sucks it off his thumb. "Delicious" Ace states before leaving. That one word made my panties wet. "What a charming young man." "Jesus Betty you scared me." I say breathless.

After Vicky and I clean up the bakery we head back to my house. By the time we get there it's already 10:45.

"Tonight was crazy, thanks for sticking up for me." Vicky whispers as we lay on the bed staring at the ceiling. "Are you kidding? You're my best friend. I'd beat anyone up for you." I told her. She chuckled. "Promise me we'll be best friends forever." Her voice sounding more sleepy with every word that comes out of her mouth. "Promise" I say.

Because I didn't tell my mom Vicky was spending the night Vicky left early in the morning.

And so began my boring morning routine.

At 7:30 I begin tying my shoes. Carson waltzes into my room. "What do you want now?" I ask.

"I need another one." He answers. "Carson I cant just keep giving these to you. You'll get caught and then we will both be dead." I explain. "Does it look like I give a s**t? No, now give me one." This kid is persistent. I pull one out and hand it to him. He smirks and walks out. I make sure to avoid my dad and run out the house as quickly as possible.

V- 'hey I'm already in the classroom. Make sure you hurry up because there's a project and I want to make sure you sit next to me so we can be partners.'

M- 'be there in a few.'

So I guess the garden is going to be postponed today.

When I walk into the science classroom I immediately hear whispers and laughs. So this is what my life has come to.

"Class settle down." Mr.Marlatt says making the chatter instantly turn into silence. "Today we are starting projects, you will fill out a packet and then make slides based on which stage you got on mitosis. Partners are assigned, I will put them up on the board shortly, everything you need to know about the project is posted online." The teacher explained. Once he put the assigned partners on the board and what stage they got immediately people groaned at either the partner they were assigned to or the stage they are required to do. I was one of the people that groaned at the partner I got. Instead of Vicky, I got Gideon. Gideon is a special child. He's a player and is not the brightest person but he is hot.

"Hey partner." He whispered in my ear. "Don't do that." I squirmed in annoyance. "Do what?" He asked not so innocently. "Look you should really put a leash on your b***h of a girlfriend." I said remembering what had occurred the night before. What I thought was off is that Gideon is dating Jenna but she has been flirting with Ace. I knew she was a hoe but I just expected her to break up Gideon first. "What girlfriend?" Gideon questioned. "Jenna."

"Jenna isn't my girlfriend anymore." He laughs. "Well I thought you guys were still dating." I said. "Is someone jealous?" I automatically look up at him and scoff. "You are so conceded. I'm not jealous, I'm only mentioning Jenna because she did something to my friend last night, and I figured since you guys were dating she'd listen to you." I tell him. How could a person be so narcissistic? Oh I know he's good looking and he knows it. "Oh yeah I heard about it.That was funny and you know it." He said laughing a little. "No it wasn't funny at all. That's bullying, and you as the 'boyfriend' should do something about it" I say mockingly. "I'll talk to Jenna about her behavior." He said seriously. "You sound like a dad." I said. "You can call me daddy anytime." Gideon replied. "You're a freak."I tell him. "Only for you." That comment made me blush and I'm sure he noticed because he started smirking. "Your dirty remarks aren't gonna work on me Gideon, better hit on another girl, someone easy for you to handle." I say with a fake smile. "I like a challenge." He said leaning in closer to me. "And I like personal space." I state while pressing my hand against his face and pushing him away from me. "Gideon." Someone said sternly, we both turn around and I'm greeted by Ace. "Stop flirting and do your work." He said. "I can do both." Gideon replied. "That's it you're partners with Vicky. I'll be partners with Mary." What? He's crazy. "Actually I'm fine with the partner I have now, plus it's not you who decides who I'm with. So just leave us alone because right now you're distracting us." I interjected. Ace gave me a cold stare and walked back to his lab table. Meanwhile Gideon thought it was a good idea to wrap his arm around my waist. I don't know what made me turn around but I just felt I had to and when I saw Ace staring at me I immediately turned back around. "Gideon." I said. "Yeah?" He asked. "Get your hand off of me before I break it." I threatened. He pressed his lips together and removed his arm from my back. I turned back around only to find Ace flirting with Vicky. They were so close, his hand was twirling a piece of her hair. I stopped staring and went back to working on the project. Once the bell rang I collected my stuff and exited the room. Forgetting Vicky and everyone else. I felt the jealousy consuming me. 'Why am I feeling this way?' My thoughts were interrupted by Vicky. "Mary." She said running up to me. "You'll never guess what happened!" She squealed. "What happened?" I asked. "Ace asked me out!" She yelled in happiness.

Why did I feel jealous? How could I be angry? Ace is a jerk,but why do I feel this way? "Mary?"

"Oh what did you say?" I questioned, please say no. "I said yes obviously." She laughed. "He's so sweet, and nice, and super smart!" She added. But he was always so mean to me. "That's great." I told her trying to hide my sadness and be supportive. "I'm gonna go to the garden." I said. "Okay." Vicky replied with a smile.

I leaned against a tree and slid down. I rested my chin on my knees and sat there watching the frogs jump into the small pond. "You're supposed to be in class." I heard Ace say. "Were you following me Ace?" I asked sarcastically keeping my eyes on the pond and not looking at him. "If you came here to make sure I wasn't smoking on school property then you can leave now because I wasn't planning on doing so." I said so he wouldn't interrogate me. He stayed silent. "I heard you asked Vicky out. If you're wondering where to take her, she really likes fancy restaurants." I say. He still stayed quiet. I hated when people ignored me. "Why aren't you-" when I finally turned to face him he wasn't there.

Third Person POV

Mary's face turned red in embarrassment after she saw that she was talking to no one. Or at least that's what she thought.

Not far from her Ace was hiding behind a tree. Looking at her for too long made him feel things no other girl has. In fact being around her made him go through emotions he's never had. Watching Gideon snake his arm around Mary in science made his blood boil and when he saw Mary made no move to stop the PDA he decided to flirt with Vicky. When he looked back at Mary he saw Gideon's hand leave her back and once the bell rang Ace didn't have time to see Mary again because she was already out the door.

Ace heard rustling and saw Mary leave the garden.

One thing Ace noticed about Mary is that she always left without looking back.
