Jessica's POV:
I stood before someone. I couldn’t see his face. He had his back to me but he had black hair. He was wearing a grey suit and black, dress shoes. He had his hands in his pockets in the most relaxed position. He was looking up at the dark sky. It was night and the stars twinkled. The full moon glowed down on him.
He just stared at the moon. I tried to get closer to him, but he moved away. He did not move his feet, but it was like I would not be able to get closer.
The scene changed. The man was gone. I was standing in the backyard seeing the man That I had seen in my last dream. This time a figure of something stood in him. It was translucent, and had a humanoid body. The big black eyes and the bumpy, dark green skin gave it away to be something more.
The man was no longer smiling. He was reaching his left hand out for me to take. His face was crying tears and he was screaming for help.
“I can’t reach you,” I whisper yelled. I was trying to grab his hand and pull him to my side. But I could not reach his hand. No matter how hard I tried. The demon was keeping me away from helping him.
“When the time comes. You will free me,” he said.
“What’s your name?” I yelled in a whisper tone. But he didn’t answer. He disappeared.
Then everything turned black. Just standing in a dark abyssal area. A man who looked disgusting. Looked like he was taking too much of the drugs he’s on. His skin looked awfully pale and his eyes held no color. They looked like a dull gray. He looked thin and his black suit and tie looked too big for him.
He smiled and his teeth were yellow and looked like they were rotting out of his mouth. He was about six feet tall and. He looked like he was homeless and had a tank smell to him.
“Hello, pretty lady,” his voice made me shiver in disgust.
“Richard Waverly?” I asked. He chuckled.
“Yes I am he,” his voice rubbed me like when someone scrapes foam together. I hate the sound of that. “Such a pretty woman you are,” he said sinisterly. I cringed.
“Sorry, I’m not into drug addicts,” I said with disgust. He just kept grinning. He moved towards me and I moved back. We kept this up for a while. It felt like hours before he stopped and his grin grew wider.
“I’ll see you later, my pretty,” He said before he ran at me and pushed me. I was falling deep into the darkness.
As I fell a face appeared. Unfortunately I couldn’t see any features, because I jerked awake. Sweat pouring down my face. I was breathing heavily as if I had been running. To my shock I had been running. I was on my back. Laying in thick, squishy mud. It’s pouring hard out.
Darkness filled my vision, which meant it was still night or early morning.
I stood up and whispered “Sarei toa no,” my night vision kicked in. I had fallen into a ditch. I looked around and saw nothing but trees and no one at all.
That asshole. I thought to myself. He must have somehow been able to use a witch to get inside my mind.
This had happened once before when I was traveling with Jaime and Teacher. An evil witch had used magic to get inside my head and tried to kill me. She used my dreams as an entrance into my subconscious to try and control me, but my body fought it. Falling into a lake nearby our camp I had awoken.
We had managed to find the witch and incapacitate her. Then we dragged her unconscious body to the nearest town with guards and handed her over to them. We collected a hefty bounty for her.
Now I am standing in mud thinking he is not getting away with this. I was pissed beyond belief.
I breathed for a moment connecting with the mud (because it’s a mixture of earth and water). I then stanced myself sideways and then I started to paddle my arms as if I was paddling through water really fast backwards. The mud lurched forward and pushing my body up the side of the ditch Within a few seconds. Sweat dripped down my forehead.
I stopped and the mud dropped. I felt dirty and sweaty and tired. I walked my way back to the house. Mud was caked on my pants and bare feet and on my entire backside. I could feel the mud caked in my hair.
I walked keeping my guard up for anything. My senses are all on high alert. I slowed my breathing, stiffened my body and walked more quietly, and perked up my hearing and sight.
It was a long walk back and I was on edge. Every sound had me jumping in my own skin and prepared for a fight. I found the path and ran toward the house.
Lights filled the house and out back. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I slowed to a walk. When I came to the backyard everyone stood in a circle getting ready to enter the forest in groups to search.
I groaned and knew that they were all looking for me. My groan caused all eyes to look at me. They were all wide eyed. The lights bothered my night vision so I turned off the spell. I felt tired and drained. Jaime ran to me.
“What the hell happened?” She whispered.
“Remember when I slept and walked into a lake on our travels?” I asked her.
“Yeah, your body did it to force you to wake up,” She whispered.
“Same thing here, but another witch is involved,” I leaned in closer to her ear. “A hunter is also involved,” I whispered so gently. She turned and looked me straight in the eye. Her shock turned to anger.
We both have an issue with Hunters gone bad. Our mom is one and we’ve found first hand what she can do. So we both want to take down this Hunter.
I walked past her toward the house going around the circle of people. I was troubled by this and knew this man was not easy to deal with, but it's not going to stop me from doing what's right.
A hand wrapped around my arm and jerked me into the middle of the circle. I was staring into David’s hooded face. He looked a little angry. I looked around at everyone who had a dark look about them. I sighed and scratched the back of my neck. s**t. How am I going to explain this to them? My face finally dropped letting my guard down.
“Let's take this inside,” I said “I’ll explain once I've showered and changed. We’ll meet in the dining room.” They seemed to relax and I slumped and slowly made my way up to my room. I was in the shower scrubbing all the mud away and watching all the dirty water make its way down the drain. I turned the hot water on to relax.
The dream I had was quite confusing at most. Many parts to it do not make sense. The dark haired man for instance. His face glowing in the moonlight. Who is he and what does he have to do with me? Then there is the man with the demon inside him. I felt he is in need of some help. Desperately. My heart hurt because I do not know when we will meet and how I can help him.
The hot water started to cool and so did my thoughts. The dreams in the last few days and then tonight's dreams. What am I supposed to do? When will things start to go down? I turned off the water as I thought. I dried myself with a towel and changed into black, cotton pants and a black, wide strapped tank top. I slipped on my slippers and a hoodie.
I felt light headed and dizzy. I started to walk into my room from the bathroom. I felt my body getting heavier the more I moved. My breathing became labored. I dropped to the floor the moment I came close to my bed.
I was laying on the floor unable to move. My body was aching and I started to feel cold. I felt too weak to even move. I lay there hurting and freezing. I felt weak and I don’t like this feeling. Finally I managed to lift my hand and pound as hard as my weak arm could onto the floor. It’s my signal to Jaime if I can’t move.
In a matter of seconds I heard feet pounding on the floor. Jaime followed by Anthony came into my room. Jaime threw the door open and gasped.
My pathetic self is unable to move. Anthony was by my side. His wrist against my forehead. He looked me dead in the eyes.
“Jaime, I need you to help me get Jessica into bed.” Wordlessly Jaime came to my right and they both lifted me up. I leaned on Jaime as Anthony pulled back my blanket and they both helped me lay down. Removing my hoodie and slippers.
“Looks like you’re sick sweetie,” Anthony said. “Must have been your little adventure tonight,” he said smiling half heartedly. He wasn’t really happy that I became sick. I may be a witch and a Hunter, but that does not make me impervious to becoming sick. I just don’t get terminal illnesses like cancer and other diseases. I can get the flu or any kind of stomach bug, but anything life threatening won’t faze us.
Physical wounds can kill us if we have been severely injured and not treated right away. That's why there are so few actual Hunters. Most do not join the fight and get regular jobs either in the medical field, or most have become lawyers. It’s much easier for them to spot evil that way. But off topic.
Jaime had disappeared. But I didn’t really notice, because I felt like I was losing focus on my surroundings. Even though Anthony is talking to me I can’t hear him. It sounded muffled and distorted to me. I wanted to sleep, but the pain was keeping me awake. I felt a cold hand touch my forehead.
“She’s burning up,” I heard dad say. “Damon, come with me to make her some medicine.” I wish I could smile, but I just couldn’t. I felt something being set under my head as my head was lifted up. I looked to see Damien with a grim look on his face. He sat on the edge of my bed.
Damien cupped my cheek and it felt so relaxing. I leaned into his hand. The rough feeling felt so comforting. Maybe I still have some lingering feelings for him. The gentle look in his eyes made me feel safe. I closed my eyes feeling the body aches and the pounding headache throb. I reached my right hand to his left and caressed his hand that was caressing my cheek. My eyes started to water.
Daniel’s POV:
I watched in the doorway. Damien gently caressing her cheek and she seemed to relax. It hurt knowing that if Damien hadn’t treated her the way he did before, then her feelings would have already been set in stone. Maybe she was attracted to the father figure in him, but my heart hurt.
I can see it now. Jessica taking his hand and smiling wholeheartedly at him, but then again I remember when she gave me that innocent looking smile and scarlet cheeks. It was the last summer before her last year in college. Before she left for her training. We were sent to Alpha Thomas Collin’s to teach Jessica about Werewolves. Since they know each other it would be best to start there.
We were driving to a dead end and then we would meet him and his Beta at the edge of their pack territory.
Jessica was really quiet. She always is, but she seemed to be in deep thought. The music in the background wasn’t what her mind was on though. I wanted to know what she was thinking about so hard.
We came to the dead end. I pulled into the grass and parked the car and turned it off pulling my keys out. I got out of the car and went to her side opening the door only to see that she wasn’t thinking. Her pure white eyes said she was having a vision. I had to wait it out.
“Welcome back. What did you see?” I asked. She looked at me a little groggy and then cleared away to see a little mischievous smile.
“It's a secret,” she said. I raised an eyebrow at her. I fell for her when I didn’t see her as a little girl. That was when she was sometime after she had the baby. The song she sang to us was just the icing on the cake. She made me fall even more in love with her. I really just want to hold her in my arms and never let her go.
She moved to get out of the car and went to the trunk to grab her things. I grabbed mine and then we waited. I locked the car up.
We waited for about an hour before the bushes started to shake and four men pushed through the brush. Half naked might I add. I wanted to cover Jessie’s eyes, but she wasn’t even looking at them. She was staring up at me. It surprised me. Her beautiful eyes looked into mine and I quite enjoyed that.
“Hello Alpha Collins,” I greeted the alpha.
“Welcome. I heard you were bringing your charge with you. Are you sure she’ll be able to keep up?” He asked worried.
“I can keep up just fine,” Jessie said, smirking. “I think we should get going. We have been waiting quite a while.” She brushed past alpha collins.
“Well, let's get going,” he said. Jessie just disrespected him, but then again she has been quite fierce lately. She has been getting even stronger even though her training has ended.
The men went behind the trees and shifted. Then their wolves ran. We ran after them, but Jessie was keeping up with them. That's when I noticed it. She was keeping an eye on one of the wolves. A fierce gray wolf. That’s his third in command. She had this look on her face, like she was expecting something. We ran a few miles before we came upon the pack house. The men went behind the trees and shifted to their human form and put clothes on. This time with shirts.
Jessie kept an eye on the gamma, but she was also paying attention to the Alpha.
“It’s a nice surprise to know you're a Hunter,” Thomas said with a smile.
“I’m more than that,” she replied.
“Oh and what more than just a Hunter,” I forgot that wolves hate witches. I couldn’t stop her though.
“I’m part witch,” she said. Everyone became defensive and were in their defensive stances. She sighed. “Wish you all had faith that I won’t hurt you. I’m on the side of good,” She said sadly.
“You say that, but can you walk the walk?” The gamma replied.
“And what do you mean for me to do to prove to you that I am on your side,” She replied.
It was silent. I am not saying a word because she needs to prove herself to them. I want to jump in, but I just can’t do that at the moment. A booming laugh filled the air. Everyone’s eyes turned to the alpha.
“I think she is alright. No need to prove yourself to me,” He said once his laughter died down.
“But alpha,” the gamma pleaded.
“Tyler, I said she doesn’t need to. You may not have met her before, but I have. This one is powerful and radiates a light of which I have never seen. So leave it be. Am I clear?” His gamma shrunk with each word his alpha said. His wolf submitting to his alpha. Then his Beta Jonathan comes out with two other wolves behind him. Probably omegas come to help us settle in. Omega’s are lower in the pack, but they are not treated unfairly, unless the alpha is quite cruel. Thomas is not. I’ve been around him enough times to know that these wolves love and respect him. I’m hoping his Luna is just as nice.
I’ll break it down just for you. Werewolves were said to be created by someone called the Moon Goddess. She is the mother of all shifters and vampires. Werewolves come in packs and they do have ranking systems. There’s the Alpha head and leader of the pack. They protect and make rules to put order in place and keep peace among their wolves. The Beta is like the right hand of the Alpha and often takes over work for the alpha if he needs to leave for any reason. Also they help out in training and are the second strongest in the pack.
They also tend to have third in commands often known as a gamma and sometimes a fourth just in case. I haven’t seen Thomas’s fourth yet. Gammas are the third strongest and help with training the pups as they like to call them. I see them as kids though because they cannot shift until they hit puberty.
Then you have pack warriors who help protect the pack territory and are often called upon to protect the borders by standing guard and patrolling the pack borders. Then you have the Omegas that help do chores and cook for the pack. You don’t have to and some have actual jobs and just come to the pack when they meet for any reason. Teens and any unmated wolves live in the packhouse.
Now here's the important thing. Werewolves have a second part to them. They call them mates. We call our other halves soulmates. That's what they are. Wolves have a bigger obligation to find said mate and finally mark and fully mate them. Some wolves within a day do so. It’s scary but they live with their other half for the rest of their lives. I heard that once a wolf loses a mate by death they either go crazy and have to be put down or they lose all will to live because their wolf leaves killing the human part of the werewolf.
I haven’t witnessed it myself, but I hope not to ever.
“Alright, well let's get these two settled in and we will give a grand tour of the Moon Howler’s Pack.” Thomas said as we were both led to the third floor. We were put into small rustic rooms with an ensuite bathroom. The beds were queen sized and were covered in a deep blue bedding. Jessie was put into a room right next to mine.
I unpacked and then we both met the two omegas in the hall. Of course I came out as Jessie was chatting away with them. They were both laughing at what she said. Suddenly a pang of jealousy hit me. I kept it hidden though. I wanted Jessie to myself. We followed them to the Alpha and he was showing us around.
We were out in the training fields when Jessie stopped out of nowhere. I stopped Thomas.
“You okay, Jessie?” I asked.
“Yeah, I’m okay. Thomas have you met your mate?” She asked. Thomas looked sad.
“Not yet,” he said sadly.
“Your mate can be found in the Starlight Pack,” She said with pauses in between her words.
“The Starlight Pack,” Thomas said wide eyed. She nodded. She looked uncomfortable.
“She needs to be saved. The alpha there. Hurts. Her. Not just her, but everyone in the pack.”
“I had heard that rumor,” he said.
“I would believe it coming from her,” I piped in. I looked at her face. Thomas looked at me.
“What do you mean?” He asked.
“Jessie has the power of premonition and can have prophetic dreams. So when she says something like this I truly believe what she says,” I said.
“If she and the pack are truly being hurt by the alpha it means he has broken treaties with us. If I asked you for help, would you give it?” Thomas asked me.
“No.”
“Yes.” Jessie and I said at the same time. You can guess who said what.
“Jessie, we cannot get involved in pack matters.”
“Daniel, Technically I was born as a Hunter, but I am also a witch and I help those who are helpless. You know I can’t just walk away. This has become a personal matter. If you don’t want to help or can’t because you're held by your treaty with the wolves, then don’t. Alpha you have my aide. I will help you in any way you need me.” Her resolve hit Thomas and Thomas just smiled.
“Thank you little lady. I was going to ask the both of you while you were here to spar with my warriors and my Beta, Gamma and fourth. Get them in top shape. While you are doing that I must make calls to packs with treaties to the Starlight Pack. We must unfortunately use violence as a way to keep peace in our world,” his eyes glazed over. Wolves can mindlink anyone in the pack. He is mindlinking someone. Then his eyes cleared. “My Beta is on his way with the pack warriors and my third and fourth. I must take my leave.” He ran off toward the pack house.
I turned toward Jessie. I was angry that she was just making her mind up and doing whatever she wants. She can be quite selfless about this, but I can’t let her put herself in the middle of wolves.
“Jessica, you know you can’t do this.”
“I can and will do this. The council still does not know about Jaime and I so we are not a part of the Hunters society. I want to help them. I want to protect these wolves. You will never understand why. I am here to protect the innocence. Those who are being abused, by evil or those who have gone evil. We are meant to protect. No matter the species,” She said.
“I like her,” I turned to see Jonathan smiling. “She wants to protect everyone even if they are not fully human. The council may not understand and we made a treaty with them, but it doesn’t say anywhere that we cannot not ask for help from the council with other packs.”
“It’s not just that to me. It’s personal,” she said sadly looking into the distance.
“How?” I asked stupidly.
“You remember when I was pregnant and told you the reason why that demonic entity chose me. I was abused. I know what it’s like to be abused and no one, and I mean NO ONE deserves to be beaten for no reason at all.” She glared into my eyes. I remember she was also abused by my brother as well.
“Okay, but I cannot get involved other than helping with the training.” She just smiled.
Four days have passed and we were sparring with the wolves. Thomas has been meeting with all the other alphas and finally it was the day they were setting out to take down the Alpha of the Starlight Pack.
Jessie stood among the ranks with her swords in sheaths hanging from her luscious, curvy hips. I just want to grab her hips and pull her body close to mine. I had to relieve myself last night because I was thinking about her. She turned me on for being who she is. I think I came twice because once wasn’t enough.
I had decided since I couldn’t let her go alone with the wolves I changed my mind. We were both geared up in our Hunters clothes.
The gear consisted of green khaki pants and a black tight shirt with long sleeves. We wore a type of military looking boots, but they were made of light material. So they weren’t heavy. I had my hair tied back with Lucy my pistol on my right hip and Lilah my sword on my left hip. I had on fingerless black gloves. Jessie had on the same and she put a bandana on her head. She also took eye shadow and decided it would be cool to have those black lines on her cheeks.
Silly, but I loved her for it. I couldn’t help admiring her goodies. That tight shirt did nothing to hide them and I realized they were bigger than when she wore a regular t-shirt. I went up to her and sighed.
“Jessie,” I said and she turned around to face me. “I know we have been in a few good battles, but I need to say this. Please be careful.” I approached her caressing her face with both of my hands. I couldn’t help but kiss her forehead. When I pulled away she put her hands over mine. She smiled softly and leaned into my hands. It warmed my heart to see her like this. Like she felt what I was feeling for her and she was accepting me.
“I’ll be careful,” she whispered.
“Good or David will have my ass on a platter,” I teased. We then heard a speech from Thomas and headed to meet the other alphas and their pack warriors. We had the pack surrounded and then attacked. We knocked out the wolves that attacked.
Thomas’s mate was being held as a hostage, but Jessica took the opportunity to sneak up on him. She attacked the alpha making him drop her and then she grabbed the female wolf and ran away from him. Thomas challenged the alpha.
However, the gamma stood in front of Jessie. She sneered at him.
“You are the traitor,” she stated. Traitor? Why is he a traitor?
“You're a witch. Only lies spill from your mouth,” The gamma growled.
“I have visions and I saw what you’ve been doing. If I didn’t interfere here, you would have made sure this pack didn’t survive. All for what? All for a chance to go after one Hunter? Pathetic. Whatever evil Hunter did this has nothing to do with me.”
“Oh but it does. The moment I looked into that face of yours I knew. The spitting image of the woman who killed my mate. Your hair is a different color, but everything else matches her description.”
“I have no relation to that woman.”
“You're her daughter, and she said this is only the beginning. She will do anything and everything she can to get what she wants.”
“And what would that be?” She asked. He smirked.
“Your daughters,” he said. Now the fighting has stopped and we were watching what was about to unfold.
“She will never get what she wants.” Before anyone knew it I took the alpha's mate from her. Her eyes were turning a fiery red. I could feel the heat raging from her.
The alpha Thomas came over and took his mate in his arms. Everyone including me backed up two yards away from the scene.
Then she screamed.
“Esto no soto,” and a bubble surrounded the wolf. He was angry and trying to phase into his wolf, but couldn’t. How is she able to do that?
She came our way after calming down and the bubble followed.
“Alpha, I’m sorry to say this, but your third has been communicating with the Starlight pack. Just like the alpha, your third’s mate was brutally killed.” She paused for a moment and then sighed. “By my mother. I have no relation to and have not been in contact with her. But he was colluding with the alpha to get closer to me. He wanted to take me out. What he didn’t expect was that I would know ahead of time. It’s up to you what you want to do,” she said expecting the worst for herself.
I wanted to just pull her into me. I wanted to caress her face and see her warm smile like earlier, but I knew the alpha must make a decision.
The alpha went to the bubble.
“Is what she is saying true?” He asked. It was silent for a bit.
“It’s true,” his third replied. Thomas sighed and then sternly looked at his third.
“For colluding with the alpha of Starlight pack and planning to hurt the Hunter/Witch I strip you Donotello Hekkro of third in command and you are banished from the Moon Howlers. I will keep you prisoner in the cells until I figure out what to do with you. Let's go back home.” Jessie didn’t move though.
I moved her way. She looked so upset. I leaned down wrapping my arms around her small frame pulling her close to me. She hugged me back, sighing.
“Don’t let this bother you. She may have given birth to you, but she is not your mother. A real mother would have been there by your side,” I said softly.
“I know that. It just hurts to know now what she wants from me and things may become more deadly for Jaime and I. I just want it all to stop,” she said.
“I know sweetie, but when there is good there is always evil. Someday you’ll be able to take her down, but right now just focus on living your life and worrying about other things. Do what you can do for now,” I whispered in her ear.
After that we returned to the pack land. Spent more time training and sparring with the pack warriors. She became her usual self again.
Thomas had dubbed her savior of werewolves. He told her if they had anymore trouble they would call upon her. They even threw her a party that lasted a whole extra week. Food and alcohol. I swear we all got drunk that week. She and I had to stay an extra few days to recover from a massive hangover.
When we left them at the border other packs came to recognize her. She has become their savior as well. There were multiple wolves from every pack that had a mate in that pack alone. The Alphas shook her hand and then we left to go back home. I think that's when I realized It was her and no one else. I had to make her mine.
As I stand here broken hearted watching another man touch her. I feel I truly love her. And it’s breaking me.
