Chapter 3: Walk Of Shame

1357 Words
MIYARA’S POV Where the hell are you? Were you kidnapped? I'm sorry I left you alone last night. *crying emoji* I scrolled through Isa’s messages from last night and this morning. How was I going to tell her what happened? Groaning inwardly, I was about to shove the phone back into my handbag when another notification popped up. Finn: Don’t tell anyone about what you saw. You need the engagement more than I do. Don’t be stupid. I clenched the phone so hard my palms hurt. The wind outside did nothing to help, blowing red curls in my face. The driver of the Uber sped up, turning into corners I wasn’t familiar with. I reread the text for a second time, my chest burning with anger. He dared to threaten me when he was the one caught cheating? The audacity. If not for my dad who was so keen on this engagement for whatever business deal he had with Finn’s dad, I would have blocked the asshole. But I couldn’t. Calling the engagement off was going to affect our company. And I didn't want to get on my dad’s bad side. I let out a deep breath, looking through the window as the city blurred in my vision. My mind drifted off to the stranger, the one whose name I didn't even know. It almost seemed like a dream—one of those dreams you have when you’ve been fantasizing about something. I couldn’t remember everything that happened last night, but I couldn't not remember the way he feasted on my n*****s. As if he had been waiting his whole life to do that. A rush of warmth spread between my thighs as I remembered his voice, rough and deep. I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, my eyes landing on my red cheeks in the rearview mirror. The driver narrowed his eyes at me and I looked away. The ache between my thighs didn't stop and I had to distract myself before I made a mess on the seat, because I was wearing no panties. Thanks to Mr masked stranger. Isa had insisted we leave my car behind and I agreed. I wanted to live an ordinary life after all. The car screeched to a halt in front of our apartment, and my phone started ringing again. It was Isa. Shit. I totally forgot we had class this morning. What a great way to start the day. I tore open the door, dragging my dress up and pulling my handbag out of the seat. I threw a hundred bucks at the driver as I scrambled out of there. “Keep the change”, I shouted over my back. With my heels in hand, I practically jogged to the door barefoot, chest heaving. I pushed the door open after quickly punching the passcode and was met with an angry-looking Isa. “Where the hell did you run off to last night?”, She crossed her arms over her chest as I brushed past her. “ I should be asking you that question Isa. You left me alone and went to do whatever. Jeez I can’t even imagine it” “I left to get drinks but you vanished by the time I was back” “You know what scratch that. We’re late. Get your ass in the shower and be quick about it before I leave you here.” “Okay Mom”, I teased, earning an eyeroll from her. She said something about the Business Ethics Professor being replaced but I couldn’t hear the rest of her words as I rushed to the shower. After Isa shoved a granola bar and coffee down my throat, we finally drove to campus, which was about forty minutes away from the apartment. “Sooo… “, Isa batted her eyelashes at me, turning in her seat to face me as I kept my eyes on the road. I could see her grinning in my peripheral vision. “You didn't tell me where you went last night”. My stomach dropped. I almost crashed into the car in front of us if I hadn't stepped on the brakes. “Woo.., calm down girl. You want to kill us?” “Sorry” “Did you find someone hot?”, she bit into her lower lip as we passed through the entrance of Kingsford College. My cheeks heated up, giving Isa an answer to the question she was playing detective to know. “You totally did OMG”. She squealed in her seat, wrapping an arm around me. “Don’t jump to conclusions”. I unbuckled my seatbelt and stepped out, memories of last night hitting me all over again. She was beside me in seconds, interlinking our arms. “It’s so obvious baby. But it’s fine if you don’t wanna tell me.” Students walked past us, some chatting happily while some other students who were obviously couples held hands as they clung to each other. Looking at them hurt, especially when my love life was nonexistent. This was my final year and I wasn’t letting any drama ruin it for me. Not Finn, not anyone. “Hey… are you listening to me? Isa nudged me at the side, and I blinked. “What were you saying?” “Apparently someone in the class group said the new Business Ethics professor was hot as f**k and the youngest this College has ever had.” “Oh. Okay”. That was the only response I could manage. My mind was too filled with a certain blue-eyed stranger to really think straight. Thank God Isa didn't pry further about it. The class was half full by the time we entered. Thankfully, our favorite back seat was not occupied so we walked all the way to the back, Isa stopping to talk to anyone she knew. God, that girl. This class was mandatory for almost all business students and some other students from a few departments. So it was the only class Isa and I had together since I was majoring in Business Management apparently to prepare me to take care of my father’s business later while Isa was majoring in International Relations. I wore a big tee over a pair of baggy jeans and let my hair down with my glasses on the bridge of my nose. If there was anything I hated in this world, it was attention. I didn’t want to be seen. Or noticed. I pulled out my phone from my bag and reread the last chapter of the book I was writing, quickly putting it away after I spotted Isa coming. Miss Popular was done with her rounds of talking to everyone. I wondered how someone opposite to me ended up being my best friend. I guess unlike poles do attract afterall. All the chaos and noise died around me suddenly when I looked around. “He’s finally here”. Isa whispered in my ear. “Who?” “Who else” she jutted her chin in the direction of the board and I followed her line of vision. “Holy freaking f**k”, the girl beside me whispered. Over six feet tall, wearing a black long-sleeved shirt folded to reveal tattoos from his knuckles all the way up to where the sleeve was folded. Muscular arms and broad shoulders strained against the shirt and his black hair was swept to the side to reveal a sharp jawline and striking blue eyes. My heart dropped to the floor. My chest tightened. My breath grew heavier. No… no this can’t be. This face was the older version of someone I used to live with as a teenager. Except this was no teenager standing in front of the class. His eyes raked the crowd and then settled on me. A smile tugged at the corner of his lips as his eyes held mine. No mask and no alcohol to hide underneath. Turned out my masked stranger was none other than my stepbrother. And now my new professor. Was I hallucinating?
