We talked to the kids about Jim, leaving out specific details of Jordan’s childhood. All they needed to know was that he was dangerous and had been to prison but not exactly for what. We wanted them to be alert but not terrified. We said ‘goodnight’ and the girls and River all headed to their rooms. Nico stayed behind. He’d been listening intently to us talk but seemed suspicious that he was getting the whole truth. “How long was he in prison?” He asked us when the younger kids were gone. “Only a few years.” Jordan replied. “And you’re sure he isn’t ok now?” Jordan and I both shook our heads. “Who pressed charges against him?” “My mother.” Nico gazed at Jordan thoughtfully before nodding his head and turning to leave. “I’ll keep the kids safe.” He said before leaving the room
