XAVIER’S POV The moment I stepped back into the house, I knew something was off. Not loud. Not obvious. Just… wrong. The guards at the entrance straightened immediately when they saw me, their movements too sharp, too alert. Word had already spread. They knew I had gone after her. They also knew I came back without her.
