Chapter 13

He was wearing a ripped pair of shorts, and his upper body was bare for my eyes to feast on. I zoned out as I stared at his abs and muscles as he smiled down at me and I had to blink a couple of times to stop myself, "what are you doing here?" I asked him as I swallowed nervously and went to stand but he stopped me. "Don't stand," he interrupted before he sat down besides me with his leg pressed against mine making shivers run down my spine at the simple contact, "I see you've found the dandelion flower field," he let out in a breath and I nodded, fixing my sunglasses on my face. "How come you've never brought me here before?" I asked him as my eyes looked over his sweaty body, like he'd been running for some time or was under the hot sun for a long time. "I was going to," he sighed as he took my hand in his large one and I squeezed his hand, enjoying the feeling of his calloused fingers wrapped around mine. "I was saving it for some day special. Anyways, I could see that you were deep in thought, what's on your mind?" I bit my bottom lip before I scooted closer to him and placed my head on his shoulder, taking a deep breath, "my mind was all over the place, it always is." "You certainly do think a lot, Diamond," he spoke lowly as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders, pulling me closer. "I do. I was thinking about leaving New Cresthill..." "I don't want you to leave." "Me neither but there's only so much running from my life that I can do before I have to go back." "You can start a life here, Diamond. Whatever you want to do in London can be done here." "I want to be around my family, Arthur." "You have a new family in New Cresthill. Everyone is family here and they love you and have accepted you as their own." "I know that, Arthur, and I've enjoyed living here. Sure at the beginning it was a bit challenging, having to get used to this new place and all of these people, but I've grown to love this town and I'm used to all the weird things that take place." "Then please don't leave." "I don't want to." "Then don't." "How can I not? What reason do I have to stay here?" "Well for starters and most importantly, me." I smiled, closing my eyes and silently agreeing with him, "maybe you can come visit me in London or we can carry on our relationship and we can occasionally visit each other." "I don't think I could ever stand having you so far away from me, Diamond. My heart wouldn't be able to take it." "I've grown attached to you and I seem to be getting even closer with each passing day and I know it's not going to be easy to leave you, but it must be done. I have my future to think about." "The future that you don't even want, Diamond? The future where you're a fashion designer? You told me that was never your dream, it was always your mother's. You want to carry on doing what you're doing. You want to be a teacher, and that's what you should be." "It's not that easy." "What's difficult about following your heart? What's difficult about doing what you love? What's difficult about standing up for yourself?" "...you don't know my family like I do, Arthur. I have to do this." "If your family loved you, they'd let you do what you love." "But I trust them, I know that what they want me to do may not be what I want to do, but it is what’s best for me. They only have my future in mind. They want me to make a name for myself, they want me to succeed and have everything that I want. They want me to be able to take care of myself and not depend on anybody else." "Ok, that makes a lot of sense." "I guess it does." "So there's no way of making you stay?" "None that I can think of," I sighed as I sat up straight, forcing myself to detach from him, "I should get going. I kind of wanted to spend the day with myself and explore the town a bit more. I left my bicycle a bit far from here so I have to go get it and get going. There's a lot for me to do." I dusted myself off as I straightened up and made sure I didn't damage my shoes before I looked back at Arthur, "I mean, as much as I may be enjoying the view of your abs and muscles, what on earth are you doing walking around in public half naked?" I laughed as he looked down at himself. "Giving everybody a view of this sexy body, of course," he said smugly as he rubbed his stomach and I threw my head back, laughing even louder. "Look at this," he said as he stared to flex his biceps while making these weird faces and I snorted. "Stop, please," I pleaded between loud giggles, "you're making me ugly laugh with your silly self. Seriously though, I have to go, Arthur. I'll call you tonight?" I asked as I wiped the tears that escaped during my laughter before I grinned at him and turned around to walk away. "Diamond wait," he stopped me and I turned to look at him, raising an eyebrow. "Yes?" I asked him. He looked around us before he ran his hand through his hair, "I just want to say..." I waited for him to talk but he was taking too long. "Say what, Arthur? Spit it out." "I just want to say that I like you." I smiled, "I like you too, Arthur. I thought we both knew this already. We are kind of in a relationship, unless I've had my head in the clouds and have gotten ahead of myself which would be very embarrassing." "No, Diamond," he shook his head, "I like, like you." I giggled, "well thank you, Arthur. I feel the same about you." He chuckled, shaking his head again, "excuse me while I stutter, but I'm not used to this. I've never been in this situation before and I've never felt like this before. Diamond, you're everything I've ever wanted in a woman and more. You may not see yourself the way that I see you, but you're so perfect and pure. I can't see myself with any other woman besides you. I close my eyes and I see your face and when I hold your hand, I don't want to ever let you go," he held both of my hands in his, "the truth is, I can't fall asleep at night without hearing the sound of your voice. I don't know how I'll be when you leave. I've gotten so attached to you in such a short space of time, but I feel what I feel and what I feel can no longer be hidden and contained. I want to be with you, Diamond. I want to spend every waking second with you, I want to listen to you drone on endlessly about your day at work, I want to be yours and you be mine. I know it sounds a little crazy, but feel your heart," he whispered as he pressed my hand to my chest, feeling my racing heart as he spoke such words. He leaned down his forehead on mine, "and feel mine," he placed my tiny hand on his chest and I felt sparks as my hand met his skin and I could feel the banging of his chest against my hand. I let out a soft gasp and looked up at him just to see that his eyes were already staring deeply into my own. I felt like I was being hypnotized at that moment. His warm brown eyes drew me in like no other. I could feel myself leaning in to rest my forehead on his. ‘That definitely wasn’t my last stop.’ I told myself as I felt his hand cup my cheek. The moment our lips met was something indescribable. It didn’t matter how many times it’s happened before, the surreal thrill that travelled through my body was always a new experience. The sparks that were set off with just a simple touch of his seemed to get more and more intense as the days went by. His taste and smell seemed to envelope my entire being and always had me wanting more. How much more? I didn’t know. I curled my fingers in his soft hair and pulled him even closer than he was, if that was even possible. His hands travelled to my waist leaving a spark of flames in its wake. I could only wish that moment lasted longer that it really did. We pulled away slowly, but we’re still wrapped in each other’s arms. In that moment my thoughts were all over the place, but one thought stuck out. Was I actually willing to leave all this behind?
