Chapter 4 "I didn't think I'd have such a great time," I admitted to Arthur as he held the door of the café open for me to walk past him. I could barely stop smiling throughout the entire date and the looks that he gave me had me blushing a beetroot red as tingles of excitement travelled throughout my body. "Well I'm glad that you enjoyed our time together," he had the most amazing voice, I could listen to him speak the entire day without getting sick of it. I was dragging my feet, figuratively of course, because I didn't want it to end so soon, but I knew that I had to. I had to get to work and I couldn’t get caught slacking off because I was the teacher. It was only the two of us this morning, so it's either nobody in this town ever has tea or coffee at this restaurant, or the hopeless romantic in me believes he somehow pulled some strings and made sure it was just the two of us. "I wish I could stay longer," I said as I took out my car keys and unlocked my sexy baby, my Mercedes Benz Maybach, "but all good things have to come to an end, I guess. Thank you for this morning, you've made it one of the best since I've gotten here in New Cresthill." He nodded and held open my car door for me. I stood there for a moment longer, looking into his deep brown eyes which just seemed to darken or lighten depending on what I said or if I looked into his eyes for too long. I swear, several times throughout he date, his eyes had changed colours from brown to a bizarre yellow, just like an animals, but I could have been seeing things that weren’t really there so I waved it off. I settled on just giving him a big genuine smile before climbing into the car. He shut the door for me and I waved in return as I slowly began to back out of the parking lot. I watched from the rear view mirror as his lone Range Rover slowly got further and further away. "Couldn't you at least have given him a little kiss," I complained to myself, a little disappointed. I still couldn't wipe the smile off my face as I drove to the school which wasn't too far away from the café. It was less than a ten minute drive before I pulled into my designated parking spot in the teacher's parking lot. I looked down at my Cartier watch, noting that I was a little bit later than I usually arrive at the school. School starts at 8:00 and I like to be here by 7:00 so I have at least an hour to prep, talk to the principal if need be and just relax and prepare myself for the day, but now that it was 7:50 I was sure I'd find my class already sitting and waiting for me. That's the most amazing thing about this school. New Cresthill High was almost as posh and strict as the prestigious schools I had attended. Matter of fact, I don't believe I've ever seen a school as disciplined as this school is, it's both unnerving and impressive. The uniform consisted of a pair of black pants with a white long sleeved shirt coupled with a black tie for the boys and a black bow tie for the girls. The boys had the same black school shoes and so did the girls. The boys hairstyles were the usual army haircuts, and that just made them all look alike. The girls haircuts were short as well, not one of them had hair that wasn't styled in a bob. Now that I think of it, even Janice had a bob like many other women here. Maybe that's just what they liked. The students were respectful and they were very silent at all times. It's like they never spoke to each other which really did freak me out the first week I was here, but after a while I got used to the silence. Even when I told them it was okay to speak, I was just met with plenty of blank stares. I've noticed some of the teachers doing that as well, but then again, I can't judge too much, I'm the outsider and this is their ways. If it's worked for them, then I'll just have to make it work for me. "Good morning, Mr Statham," I greeted the principal who was quite possibly the funniest man in this town. He always managed to put a smile on my face, whether it was with his jokes and teasing or in the way that he resembled Papa smurf and even dressed like him. He was all around funny, "I'm sorry that I'm late," I apologized but then thought better than to explain. I'm sure he'd fire me if I said "I'm late because I went on a date". Yeah, not very professional or responsible. I saw him take in a whiff before he stiffened and his face went from the usual calm to just blank, before he took a few steps back from me, "that's alright," he replied stiffly, "you don't need to worry at all. I just need to uh, tell you that school-" "Are you alright, Mr Statham?" I asked him when I saw his eyes become blank, the look that I'm used to seeing on the faces of everybody in this place. So I just waited until he'd snap out of it, it's usually not for too long that they have those blank looks on their faces. Maybe a couple of seconds, the longest I've witnessed though, was maybe a full five minutes. He blinked and I tilted my head, "are you ok?" I asked him, taking a step closer to him, but he held up his hand and took a step back. "Yes Lu- I mean, Yes Miss Louise I'm fine," he cleared his throat and put on a tight smile, "school will be out early today. So you can go home and rest." "Really? Why?" I asked him, deciding to just stand still. He scratched the back of his neck and his eyes moved to my feet, not looking up even once, "there's a call for an important meeting that the uh, that the town citizens have to attend. I'll see you tomorrow," he rushed out, but didn't move an inch from his place. I just looked at him, frowning from being isolated from the town. I guess no matter how much I try, I'll never be a part of them. "Oh...aren't you supposed to be leaving?" I asked when I realised he was just standing there. He nodded, "thank you," before he literally scurried off. What the hell was that about? ~~~
