Chapter 2

978 Words
I cannot remember the last time I communicated with actual words to anyone. I had random thoughts that kept me occupied, because if not, then surly I would go insane. My wolf, whose name is Sierra, is my only companion. Due to the spell our communication is extremely difficult to do and when it happens it is very short. I live for those days where we can say two sentences to one another. I’m working at the pack bar right now and I wish I was anywhere else besides here. For the past two months, when I work here, people have become more aggressive with trying to touch my body and not in a hurtful way, more of a s****l way, and I cannot do a thing about it. I must lockdown my emotions even further so that no one can accuse me of whatever they can think of that would lead to me getting an actual beating. Out of the two, I would prefer the latter option if I had a choice. Due to the celebration and the drinking, emotions are running high, and inhibitions are running low. Meaning, tonight is going to be extremely difficult for me. I have been delivering food, beer, collecting plates for the past three hours and I will be doing so till the last of the pack left. I was already tired from working before the sun was up, but that is nothing new. All I had to do was to try and remain invisible and this night might be survivable. An hour later is when the fiasco happened. I was still doing my duty of serving and cleaning when a drunk pack member slapped my ass and caused the tray holding dirty plates and glasses to fall to the ground. The items shattered, which attracted everyone’s attention to us. I immediately dropped to the ground and started to pick up the broken pieces. The icing on the cake, though, was what this drunk pack member said. “You could be my brood mare and give me some pups when you turn 18” he said and grabbed my arm in a tight vice grip, pulling me up off the floor. The bar became absolutely silent while they watched. I had no idea who was grabbing me because I had learned to see but not look. With my head down, I just stood there repeating my mind to not show emotions. “You could replace that which you took from me” he stated. My body began to tremble because I recognized his voice. He was the Alpha. My emotional control was slipping because tears began to fall down my face. He could and would force me to provide him with a child even though he knew I was not responsible for the death of his son. No, my wolf cried, and I could feel her anguish. I’m so sorry, I replied. “Look at me” the Alpha commanded. I could not resist such a command backed by his power. With my body still trembling and tears falling, my head lifted and my eyes connected to his. Anyone witnessing could see his hatred of me, but that emotion from him, I felt it and I wished for death. Anything to not suffer the promise of pain within his gaze. “Mate” someone in the bar said. I could not look away; I simply did not have the power. Only when the Alpha looked towards the wolf was I able to lower my head. “Who said that?” the Alpha asked. “I did” the Beta’s son replied, “she is here. I just smelled her.” “Then congratulations are in order” Alpha responded, “who is the lucky lady?” The Beta’s son James, who had also been drinking for some time, began to sniff around the room. “Sorry” he laughed, “I seem to be having difficulty.” He stumbled around a chair lifting his beer mug. That broke the previous silence, and everyone began to whisper. While James searched the room, Alpha’s gaze returned to me. I know because I felt it. Alpha’s hold on my arm became tighter and his nails began to draw blood. James just happened to come near me, sniffed and said “Mate.” My eyes closed and I took a deep breath, trying to go to my safe place in my mind. “What?” The alpha became enraged. Again, the bar became silent. Once the Alpha set his mind on something, nothing would stand in his way, not even a mate. He slapped me across the face, which knocked me back down to the ground. I was seeing stars for a moment. Glancing up a little bit through my hair, I saw the Alpha approach James and then sat in stunned silence with everyone else as he beat the hell out of him. James tried to put up a fight, but due to drinking and not having alpha strength, he lost. After the Alpha realized he was beating an unconscious James, he stopped his assault. Dropping James to the ground, he yelled for him to be removed. Two people rushed to his body and moved him out quickly and quietly. “When I say someone is going to serve a purpose, I mean it” Alpha addressed the quiet bar. His voice was scary soft. Every single wolf lowered, their head saying almost as one yes Alpha. He walked over to me, looked for a moment, then slammed his foot into my ribs. I gasped as a loud pop sounded, broken ribs. Followed by another and another. Then he grabbed my hair, yanking me towards him and punched me in the face. I ran towards the darkness and faded into sweet, sweet oblivion.
