Chapter 7

1122 Words
I can't run anywhere; whatever is roaring behind me is too close, and there’s nowhere to escape. I’ve been so stubborn—I should have listened. Now, I’ve put myself in a dangerous situation. "Am I really going to die like this?" That’s the question racing through my mind. But I don’t want to die yet. I was trembling with fear, sweat pouring down my body like water. I didn’t know what would happen if I didn’t turn back, but I still felt compelled to see what was chasing me. Even if I didn’t look, that thing would still hurt me, given the way it was roaring. I couldn’t savor my fear, but I managed to turn back slowly, rubbing my baby bump. "I'm so sorry for putting you in this kind of danger," I mumbled before finally turning around. "Ahhhhhh!" I screamed as I caught sight of what was roaring. I fell to the ground, scrambling backward on my hands as I realized that just looking at this creature made me feel like I wouldn’t last another five minutes before passing out. I had once read a book about werewolves that described their transformation, but seeing one in front of me now made my heart race with fear. I touched my stomach again, feeling my baby inside me. Despite the father being a bastard, I love my child so much. Right now, I wish I could do anything to save both of us, but I feel powerless. No wonder they warned me not to go out. I’ve read that werewolves usually shift at night, and is this how the humans before me died? I can’t help but blame myself once again; I’m the one who put myself in this situation after being warned. "Please don’t hurt me! I’m begging you, please!" I pleaded, tears streaming down my face as I scooted back on my hands. The werewolf continued to move closer, growing more terrifying with each passing second—its red eyes and sharp fangs glinting menacingly. Its fur and tail only added to its fearsome look. I closed my eyes, bracing for the worst, my hand still resting protectively on my stomach when my back hit the wall, leaving me with nowhere to retreat. My eyes were closed for some minutes, but nothing happened. "Has the werewolf left?" I asked myself, and I couldn't help the happiness inside my heart at that moment because my baby and I were going to survive anyway after my foolishness. I opened my eyes, but they widened again when I saw the werewolf hadn't left; it had already transformed into human form, but the man's sharp fangs and red eyes were still there. My heart started beating in fear again. "You're human, but you smell like a werewolf. Weird," the man mumbled, eyeing me from head to toe. I had no idea what this werewolf man was thinking in his head right now. I realized this place wasn't like Augusta after all, but it was still as dangerous as I had imagined. There was just a little that was similar to humans. "Stay away from me!" I finally managed to find my weak voice, but I knew my words wouldn't chase him away. I decided to try something else. "Why should I?" the werewolf man asked, a mischievous smile playing on his face. "Because Alpha Gael will definitely kill you; he's the one who brought me here," I said, trying to sound threatening, though I was scared inside. As soon as I threatened him, he burst into loud laughter, his fangs making him look even scarier. My fear returned, and I wondered if I had made a mistake by threatening him, just as the man finally stopped laughing. "Even though you're weird for smelling like a werewolf, although you're a human. But you're even weirder for thinking my brother is going to kill me because of you, even though he makes the rule that no one should hurt humans. The fact is, I can break the rules whenever I want," the man said with a mocking look, and I couldn't help but feel frightened by his words because I didn't think there was hope for me again. "And my brother brought you here? And you're happy? Then you're fooling yourself because my brother, Alpha Gael, brought you here just to kill you," the man sneered. My eyes widened in horror at his words. I was confused, but I couldn't still focus on anything else except the fact that Alpha Gael was going to kill me. Even if I managed to survive this man, I feared that the confusion would ultimately be what would kill me because there were so many things I couldn't understand and I'd never understand. "How? Why would he kill me?" I asked at once, my voice breaking. Did that mean Alpha Gael had been lying all along? Why did this have to happen to me after what Cyrus had done? "He always brings humans here to kill them for their blood because he needs it during the full moon. That's why he forbids other werewolves from killing humans—he needs them for himself, and you’re no different," he said with a grin. A gasp escaped my lips. So this is it; that's why he's sweet-talking to me—he wants to kill me for my blood. I can't help the tears rolling down my cheeks at this moment. I regret my decision to leave Augusta, thinking I could escape Cyrus there. I never imagined I would end up here, facing this kind of fate. "But I, Alaric, will kill you before my brother does, and I know my brother won't mind if I take out one of his humans," he said dangerously, revealing his fangs. I realized there was no point in begging; I was going to die here no matter what. But in my next life, I vowed never to make this kind of mistake again. I would protect my baby and avoid crossing paths with Cyrus, ensuring I would not meet this fate. "But I won't just kill you; I'll have a taste of you first," Alaric said, with a mischievous grin, and that was what terrified me. I couldn't let him touch me. I wasn't even afraid of death anymore because I knew it was inevitable, but I couldn't allow him to sleep with me, no matter what. Tears began to roll down my cheeks. "I'm glad I caught your scent, human," he mumbled, his hand poised to slip inside my gown to caress my thigh. "Don't touch me! Just kill me!" I sobbed, ready to say more and stop Alaric, but it was too late.
