Chapter 7

The Wolf Awakens The White Fang Palace had changed. Everyone knew it. The servants knew it. The warriors knew it. Even the wolves roaming the palace grounds seemed to know it. Ever since Summit Angel Warm arrived, the once silent palace had become… alive. Laughter echoed through hallways that used to be quiet. The gardens carried color. The children smiled more. The servants talked more. And for some strange reason— Froz White Fang smiled more. Not often. Not enough for anyone to openly mention it. But enough for people to notice. Enough for whispers to begin. Unfortunately for Froz, he remained completely unaware. Or perhaps he was simply pretending. The morning began peacefully. Which should have been the first warning. Sam stood in the winter gardens helping several servants arrange flowers around a frozen fountain. The air was cold. The sky was clear. Everything felt calm. Queen Rhed sat nearby enjoying tea. Watching with amusement as Sam directed everyone around. “No, no.” Sam pointed dramatically. “The blue flowers go there.” A servant blinked. “Why?” “Because they’re prettier.” The servant looked confused. That apparently made perfect sense to Sam. Queen Rhed laughed softly. “You’ve turned my palace upside down.” Sam grinned. “You’re welcome.” The Queen shook her head. “You sound exactly like Lucifer.” The mention of her brother made Sam smile. She missed him. A lot. More than she admitted. The Queen noticed. As she always did. “You can send another letter tonight.” Sam brightened immediately. “Really?” “Of course.” A warm feeling spread through her chest. Queen Rhed truly treated her like family. The realization still surprised her. Before she could respond— A distant horn suddenly echoed across the territory. The sound cut through the air. Sharp. Urgent. Wrong. The smiles disappeared immediately. The servants froze. The guards stiffened. Even Queen Rhed’s expression changed. Sam frowned. “What was that?” No one answered. Then another horn sounded. And another. And another. A warning signal. Danger. The atmosphere shifted instantly. Footsteps thundered through the palace. Warriors rushed across the grounds. Orders were shouted. Weapons were drawn. Sam had never seen White Fang move like this before. Fast. Disciplined. Efficient. Dangerous. Something was happening. Something bad. Minutes later, the palace courtyard had transformed into organized chaos. Warriors gathered near the gates. Horses were being prepared. Battle equipment distributed. Sam spotted Metro immediately. The servant looked unusually serious. That alone was concerning. “Metro.” He turned. His expression darkened. “Lady Summit.” “What happened?” Metro hesitated. Then answered. “Rogues.” Sam’s stomach tightened. Every wolf knew about rogues. Wolves without clans. Wolves who rejected laws. Many were harmless. Others were monsters. “What did they do?” The servant looked toward the northern mountains. “Attacked one of our border villages.” The words hit hard. Very hard. Because suddenly— This wasn’t stories. This wasn’t history books. This wasn’t training. Real people were in danger. Real lives. Real families. Then another voice joined the conversation. “Metro.” Both turned. Froz. The Alpha wore black battle armor. Silver markings covered the chest plate. A sword rested at his side. His expression was colder than usual. Deadlier. For the first time, Sam saw the warrior behind the Alpha. And honestly? He looked terrifying. Metro immediately straightened. “My Alpha.” “The warriors are ready?” “Yes.” Froz nodded. Then his gaze landed on Sam. Immediately. As if he had sensed her presence before even arriving. “You stay here.” She frowned. “What?” “You stay.” Sam crossed her arms. “No.” The answer came so quickly that Metro almost laughed. Almost. Froz didn’t. His eyes narrowed. “This is not a discussion.” “It is now.” “Summit.” “No.” The familiar argument began. Several nearby warriors quietly moved away. Experience had taught them survival. Froz stepped closer. “You are staying inside the palace.” “I can help.” “No.” “Why?” “Because I said so.” Sam groaned. “I hate that answer.” The Alpha didn’t care. “Good.” “Stop saying that.” “Good.” She pointed at him. “See? This is why you’re difficult.” “And you’re not?” “No.” Metro looked away. The warriors looked away. Even the horses looked away. Nobody wanted to get involved. Eventually Froz sighed. A dangerous sign. Because whenever Froz sighed— Someone usually lost. “Summit.” His voice lowered. Serious. “People are getting hurt.” The words immediately killed her argument. For a moment. Just a moment. Then she lifted her chin. “Exactly.” Froz stared. And realized something terrible. She genuinely wanted to help. Not because she was reckless. Not because she wanted excitement. Because she cared. Moon Goddess help him. That was somehow worse. Two hours later, Froz and the warriors departed. The palace felt different without them. Emptier. Quieter. More anxious. Sam hated it. She paced. Then paced more. Then paced even more. Eventually Queen Rhed found her. “You look troubled.” Sam stopped walking. “I should’ve gone.” The Queen sighed. “No.” “I could’ve helped.” “You don’t know that.” Sam looked away. The older woman approached. Then gently squeezed her shoulder. “Froz wasn’t trying to insult you.” “I know.” “He was protecting you.” That irritated her even more. Because Queen Rhed was probably right. Night arrived. And with it came a storm. Heavy snow covered the mountains. Strong winds shook the palace windows. Visibility became terrible. The servants looked worried. The guards looked worried. Even Metro— Who rarely showed emotions— Looked worried. That was enough to make Sam nervous. Then the gates suddenly opened. Warriors returned. Injured warriors. The courtyard erupted into activity. Medics rushed forward. Stretchers appeared. Orders were shouted. Sam immediately ran outside. Ignoring every warning. Ignoring every protest. Because people needed help. And she couldn’t stand still. Not now. Not ever. She helped carry supplies. Bandages. Medicine. Water. Whatever was needed. For hours she worked. Helping wherever she could. Until— A scream echoed across the courtyard. Everyone froze. A warrior collapsed. Violently. His body shaking. Eyes glowing unnaturally red. The surrounding wolves immediately growled. Fear spread instantly. Metro’s face changed. Alarm. Real alarm. “Get back!” The shout came too late. The warrior transformed. Bones snapped. Muscles expanded. Fur erupted across his body. But something was wrong. Very wrong. The wolf looked twisted. Unstable. Mad. Rogue poison. The realization struck several people at once. The rogue attack hadn’t just injured the warriors. They had poisoned them. Panic erupted. The wolf lunged. Straight toward a servant. Too fast. Too sudden. Nobody could react. Nobody except— Sam. Something exploded inside her chest. Instinct. Power. Fear. Protection. Everything happened at once. The world suddenly slowed. Her heartbeat thundered. A strange energy rushed through her body. Warm. Ancient. Wild. Golden light flashed through her eyes. The ground beneath her feet cracked. A powerful pressure erupted from her body. The rogue wolf froze. Completely froze. As if an invisible force had grabbed its throat. The entire courtyard became silent. The wolf whimpered. Actually whimpered. Then lowered itself. Submission. Absolute submission. Nobody moved. Nobody breathed. Everyone stared at Sam. Including Sam. “What…” The word barely escaped her lips. Because she felt it too. The power. The strength. The wolf inside her. Awake. Truly awake. For the first time. Then another voice echoed through the courtyard. A familiar voice. Cold. Powerful. Shocked. “Summit.” Froz. He had returned. And unlike everyone else— He understood exactly what he had witnessed. Because he had felt it. The pressure. The dominance. The Alpha aura. No. Something beyond that. Something older. Something rarer. Something impossible. His blue eyes locked onto hers. For the first time since they met— True shock appeared on his face. The courtyard remained silent. No one dared speak. No one dared move. The rogue wolf still knelt before Sam. Trembling. Submitting. Terrified. And honestly? Sam felt exactly the same. She stared at her hands. Confused. Heart racing. “What happened?” Nobody answered immediately. Because nobody knew. Except perhaps one person. Froz slowly approached. His gaze never leaving her. The warriors parted instantly. Making way. The Alpha stopped directly in front of her. Close. Very close. Too close. Neither looked away. “What did I do?” Sam asked quietly. Froz studied her face. Searching. Thinking. Trying to understand. Then he spoke. “You forced a rogue wolf to submit.” Sam blinked. “What?” The Alpha’s jaw tightened. “Without shifting.” The surrounding warriors exchanged nervous glances. Because every wolf present understood the problem. That shouldn’t be possible. It wasn’t supposed to happen. Not for someone her age. Not for someone untrained. Not for anyone. Sam swallowed. “But how?” For the first time— Froz didn’t have an answer. And that frightened him more than he wanted to admit. Because something had awakened tonight. Something powerful. Something dangerous. Something hidden inside Summit Angel Warm. And as he looked into her golden eyes— Eyes still glowing faintly beneath the moonlight— One thought echoed through his mind. The daughter of Alpha Apo Warm wasn’t ordinary. Not even close. And whatever secret slept inside her wolf… It was about to change everything.
