Lyra chuckled, sniffling hard. She glanced at Aaron but a shiver ran down her spine when her eyes met with those piercing gaze of his. Lyra knew she had a lot of apologizing to do. She gulped down her saliva nervously and tried to hold back her joy.
“I-I,” Lyra stuttered and knelt before Aaron.
Lyra was afraid of the ex-convict in front of her. Aaron might not be able to use his legs anymore but that doesn't make him a good man.
What if he orders his men to kill her? Who knows what Aaron is capable of?
“I didn't mean to deceive or make a fool out of you,” Lyra’s hands trembled at the sight of Aaron.
Aaron squinted his eyes at her and steered his wheelchair closer to her direction.
Lyra held her chest tightly, she could feel her heart pounding against her chest. She took a step back gulping down her saliva nervously.
“Please, don't kill me,” Lyra screamed and leaned her head on her shoulder.
Aaron smirked at the naive lady in front of him. He couldn't blame her for seeing him in that light. Aaron is already used to people addressing him like he is a beast or something. The media did a lot of damage to his reputation.
“Look at me,” Aaron’s firm voice echoed through the room.
Lyra shook uncontrollably in her position. She was like a prey ready to be devoured and Aaron was looking like the ice prince himself. Lyra was so sure Aaron was going to kill her.
Lyra raised her head and met with Aaron’s gaze.
Shit! Why does he have to look so cute? She admired the man instead of saying her last prayers.
“Mmm,” Aaron scoffed using a finger to raise her chin.
Aaron examined the young lady with kin interest. Not so bad, he thought to himself.
Beads of sweat formed around her forehead and he gently wiped them off with his hands.
Huh? What is he doing? Lyra widened her eyes in shock. Did he just do that? What is going on with this man? How strange!
“I'm starving,” Aaron said slowly and raised a brow at the kitchen.
“Huh!” Lyra was stunned by his actions.
Isn't he angry? Or could this be a trap? What if he comes after me when I'm sleeping? Jeez! I'm doomed.
Aaron widened his eyes at Lyra and snapped his fingers.
Lyra jolted and snapped back to reality. Whatever that was, she was sure it wouldn't end well so she needed to be fully prepared for any trouble it might bring her in the future.
“Oh! Right, I'll get to it now,” Lyra said in reply.
When Lyra finally stood up, she paced the living room with speed without even sparing Aaron a glance. The sight of Aaron wasn't that pleasant for her.
“What do you want for breakfast?” Lyra asked, her gaze low.
“Anything is fine,” Aaron replied with a small smile.
Aaron was beginning to fancy Lyra and her silly antics. There is no way he would harm her, they're married and from the look of things, she seems like an interesting woman. So why would he want to get rid of her?
Lyra chopped the vegetables gently moving her head to her rhythm. It kind of felt good to hear the doctor say those words over the phone. If truly Mary paid for the surgery then that means she was human after all.
“Are you happy about something?” Aaron asked, his voice hung in the air like a sharp knife.
Lyra slowly glanced at him, flickering her eyes around the living room. For a moment she forgot about Aaron and their unfinished business.
Lyra shook her head with her mouth slightly clenched.
“Dummy!” Lyra murmured, “Why did you look so excited? Now he thinks I'm making a fool out of him,” Lyra hit her forehead slightly.
“So tell me, what's getting you excited?” Aaron asked, his brows furrowed.
“It's nothing,” Lyra said in reply and continued chopping the vegetables in front of her.
“Really?” Aaron narrowed his brows and glared at her. “First, you deceived me and now, you're hiding a secret. Isn't that wonderful?”
“I didn't deceive you, I just didn't have any choice. My sister's life was on the line, I could have lost her. I didn't have a choice.”
“Alright then, so what's making the fake bride so happy?” Aaron asked, sarcasm creeping into his voice.
“Ouch! That hurts,” Lyra squinted her eyes at him, “I'm no fake. I'm just a victim here.”
“If you say so,” Aaron said lazily and flashed Lyra an annoying smile.
Seriously? Is this man crazy? I know I'm wrong here but why the hell does he have to call me that? Lyra screamed inside her head.
“Let me guess? You're cussing right now?” Aaron asked, his eyes widened.
OMG! How did he know that? Seriously? Lyra’s head spun as she wandered in her mind.
“Look,” Lyra dropped the knife on the chopping board and sighed in distress, “I know what I did is wrong and I'm sorry about that but I can assure you that I'm not a bad person. If only we can just start over again.”
“What were you so happy about earlier?” Aaron asked for the second time.
“I guess he's not interested in making peace,” Lyra murmured in disappointment.
“Still doesn't answer my question, young lady,” Aaron said with an annoying smile plastered on his face.
It was as if Aaron was out to piss her off. He didn't care about the swap but all he cared about was her personality. He needed to know if she was the right woman for him.
“If that's what you want to know, then fine,” Lyra sighed, “It's my si-”
Before Lyra could finish her statement, a loud noise interrupted their conversation and the couple widened their eyes in shock.
“What the hell was that?” Lyra asked, fear running down her spine.
Lyra ran towards Aaron and shielded herself behind him.
“What do you think that was? Sounded like a recoil, did you hear that?”
Aaron squinted his eyes at her and a small smile formed on his lips.
“How cute, she's such a big baby,” he thought to himself.
Aaron steered his wheelchair towards the window to have a glimpse of the situation.
“What are you doing? Get back here,” Lyra snapped, “What if they're bad guys out there? Get back here.”
Lyra stood up and closed the gap between them. There's no way she's going to let him endanger himself. She reached for his wheelchair and tried to steer it but Aaron snapped at her.
“What are you doing?”
“It's dangerous out there, let's get you outta here,” Lyra said, panting hard.
“Huh?” Aaron narrowed his brows at her, “Look, over there,” he signaled at a corner.
