“Alright,” Lyra said in reply and disconnected the call with a sad look on her face.
Lyra stared at the vegetables on the chopping board and sighed in distress. No matter how hard she tried not to think about it, she couldn't help herself. A part of her wanted to be with Aaron but again, what would people say? Lyra has suffered a lot ever since her father died and it made no sense she ended up with a man with a bad reputation amidst her suffering.
“Wait! I forgot about the contract,” Lyra’s eyes widened in shock.
How could she be so naive to just sign off her life like that?
“Seriously, why did I sign those damn papers? What is wrong with you, Lyra?” She hit her forehead slightly and groaned in frustration.
How could she be so stupid as to sign off her life to Aaron without even reading through the papers first? Even if Aaron threatened her she should have been bold even to insist on reading the content. But now, she's bound to him with no hopes of turning back.
“It's okay, Lyra. Take a deep breath in and out,” she exhaled with both eyes closed.
Lyra glanced at the kitchen and proceeded with her cooking. Whatever happens in the future, she knew she was going to be fine, her instincts never failed her.
Thirty minutes passed and Lyra was done with the meal. She rinsed her hands and wiped them before dishing the meal for Aaron and herself. Since the apartment was a small one, she took the meal to the living room and took out a stool by the side of the couch, Lyra placed the meal on a tray on top of the stool and went inside the bedroom to fetch her husband.
“Food is ready,” Lyra said.
Lyra’s eyes widened in shock at the sight of Aarons's bare chest when she opened the door. “OMG!” Her jaw dropped.
Aaron shot her a cold glare and steered his wheelchair towards the door. He slammed the door against her face and Lyra jolted.
Lyra raised her clenched fist at the door and rolled her eyes at it.
“That mean cutie,” Lyra said with a loud voice.
“What did you just call me?” Aaron asked from the bedroom, his cold voice hanging in the air.
“s**t!” Lyra cussed, biting her lips. She moved a step back and gulped down her saliva. “Why did you say that?” She whispered to herself and hit her mouth slightly.
“Nothing,” Lyra screamed in reply and ran towards the sofa. She leaned on and shut her eyes in embarrassment.
Ever since she entered the neighborhood, all she did was embarrass herself around Aaron. First, she sneak-picked when he was asleep then, she hid behind him when she heard those loud noises and now, she was looking at the man’s sexy body. What more would she likely do?
The bedroom door opened slowly and Lyra adjusted on her seat. She glanced at Aaron who was tugged in a black tuxedo and in an instant, she felt hot inside of her.
Seriously? What has this man done to me? Lyra wandered in her thoughts and averted her gaze when their eyes met.
Aaron squinted his eyes at her and a mischievous smirk danced on his lips.
Is it just me or does she find a crippled man attractive? Aaron questioned himself.
“Where are you going?” Lyra asked, her voice a bit low.
Lyra didn't expect that from him. She thought she would be the one taking care of him as long as they were married. Lyra had thought that she would be the breadwinner since Aaron was disabled. Isn't that why they married her off? To care for the crippled man.
“I'm only crippled and not dead, Miss Fake,” Aaron replied with a hardened expression on his face.
“I see,” Lyra said and lowered her gaze. “I just thought you'd need my help though.”
Aaron glared at her and stared at the tray of food on the stool.
Interesting! It seems that his wife is also a good cook. The aroma of the meal was more than satisfying for Aaron.
Lyra felt a surge of emotion run through her body when she saw the smile on Aaron's face.
“Do you like it?” Lyra asked with a warm smile on her face.
“Looks good,” Aaron said in reply without sparing her a glance.
Lyra’s cheeks flushed red at the sound of that compliment. She watched him slowly as he ate from the plate.
Wow! Lyra’s jaw dropped. Why does he look so perfect? Even while he ate, his charisma stood unshakened. How elegant and gracious, every slice he took echoed through her eyes.
Aaron raised his head and immediately, Lyra averted her gaze and cleared her throat.
“Jones will be here soon, we'll be heading out shortly,” Aaron broke the silence between them.
“Okay, it's a good thing you have Jones. By the way, I’d love to go see my sister today and see if I can get a job out there. Can I join your ride?”
Aaron glared at her in disdain, “Mmm.”
“I promise I won't be of any trouble, I'll keep mute the entire trip, please just let me ride with you guys,” Lyra pleaded with a sad expression on her face.
“Alright,” Aaron said and focused on his meal. “By the way, why ain't you eating? Are you just going to watch me eat or are you going to join me?”
“That? Right, I almost forgot about that, I'm starving.”
“Then what are you waiting for?” Aaron asked with his brows furrowed.
“I'll get to it now,” Lyra said in reply and joined him.
Lyra smiled at Aaron and heaved a sigh of relief.
After finishing their meal, Aaron leaned on his wheelchair and twisted his wrist with a small smile on his face.
Lyra took the tray back to the kitchen and tidied it up. She glanced at Aaron and cleared her throat twice.
Aaron turned towards her direction and raised a brow, “You got something to say?”
Lyra gulped down her saliva nervously and took a step forward, “Can I ask you something?”
“It depends,” Aaron said in reply.
“What happened to you? How did you become this way?’ Lyra asked, her voice shaking.
Aaron shot her a cold glare that sent shivers down her spine.
