Jean's P.O.V
He did make me feel safe.
I'll never forget how warm I felt inside, how loved I felt.
I felt desired, I felt needed all for the first time, but I couldn't stay with him.
I couldn't bring myself to move with him.
I couldn't be seen. I couldn't afford it. There would have been so much to risk, my life and even his.
And the ones above know that I would rather die than have him hurt.
Plus I wouldn't live past 25 anyways.
I was twenty and had just five years to live and I was not in anyway close to mastering the powers of our mask.
I couldn't afford to hurt him after my death.
I know how my mother's death damaged my father.
"Mama, why are you crying?" I hear my daughter ask.
Her voice laced with affection. I look into her big brown eyes, the one she took from her father.
"Mama isn't crying." I sniffle as I pat her blonde hair. She took mine.
"Mama is just..."
"Crying." She completes the sentence.
She moves from where she was behind me and climbs my lap.
"Mama is crying because she misses father and feels guilty towards me, but don't worry mama."
"Don't cry, don't feel guilty. I love you. I love you very much and ..." Saviour hides her face in my chest and I know she's trying to hold her tears.
"I'll grow up to be a very big girl and I'll fight for you. I'll stay by your side forever even if you tell me to leave." She continues with a smile.
She's growing up strong. Stronger than I was during my 11 months of pregnancy, stronger than I and and stronger than I'll ever be.
Her toothy grin melts me heart and I find myself smiling.
We both look into the mirror while she continues.
"I won't be like daddy, I won't be a coward." She says as she strokes my mask before kissing me.
"I love you mama. Seth is waiting." She kisses my cheeks before running out again.
Saviour was born with the mind-reading magic and she has practised enough to read my mind.
Her silent foot spells are nearing perfection as well.
She's a fast learner, just like her father.
Oh, Dominic.
Dominic's P.O.V
"Linda." I call my wife's name softly so I don't wake her.
She's been sick for days and her skin keeps turning pale blue everytime she gets stressed.
It was an illness she kept away from me because she didn't want me to worry.
Linda is my childhood love and my first bestfriend. Rolland my half brother and the clan's beta is my second and we grew up together since we were pups.
Ain't I the lucky on?
I got married to my childhood love despite the curse.
I was cursed to never find my mate, but even though Linda isn't mine, we love eachother and I will do anything and everything in my power to make sure she is well.
The specially trained seeker soldiers who are directed as per the Seekers orders and have helped guarantee success in all of our raids came back yesterday with a negative report.
But I won't give up.
I won't give up on searching for the masked healers.
The healers who have gone extinct with oy one generation left of them in the world.
But even if they only existed in Mars, I won't hesitate to strike a deal with Musk and be on my way to the planet.
"I feel so sick, my love." Linda's gentle voice mixed with a thought of drowsiness reaches my ears and as much as I want her to conserve her energy, I still want to hear them.
"It's okay my wife. I'll find the Masked healers and bring them to you to do as you please." I pat her raven black hair.
The human doctors were all useless, none of them could find a cure, neither could the healers of the other clans
"I'll make sure you're well again." I notice her squint and it breaks my heart as I watch her flutter her eyelashes with so much pain.
Her pale face remind me of how much of a failure I have been.
"You don't have to do all this for me." Her voice breaks as she coughs. I immediately dab her the blood on her lips.
Oh dear Linda.
"You just have to promise me one thing."
"Anything my wife. Anything for you Linda."
"That..." She paused to take a breath.
I wait patiently with all earnestly as I stare into her grey eyes.
"Yes Linda, tell me. You know I'll do anything for you."
"That you will take care of yourself and our daughter after I die."
"You..." I want to interrupt and tell her that she will never die, and I'll make sure of it.
But she seems agitated, so I pause and let her go on instead.
I can't afford to watch her go through another disastrous episode again.
I hold her hand in mine, give the back of her palm a kiss and then a gentle squeeze to urge her on.
"Make sure Jewel knows you are her father. Make sure she feels loved by you and after I die." She starts to cough again.
"After I die..." I'm so close to tears as I can the blood on her lips and jaw.
"After I die, I want you to find another wife. I want to you move on and love someone else."
How could she say such a thing when I'm fighting tooth and nail to get her to heal?
"Never!" I roar.
"I will never find another wife, because you will never die." I squeeze her fingers in mine and I don't realize how hard I've squeezed it until she groans.
It's a painful one.
"I'm sorry Linda, but I will never lover another. I can only love you and I'll make sure you live long enough to take care of jewel and our grandchildren."
"I promise!"
I'm riled up.
I can feel the adrenaline surge through me.
"I'm sorry Linda, but I'll have to leave you in Raymond's care while I go search for the masked healers." I miss her on her forehead and straighten my back.
I must make her well again even if I must die in the process
