As seasoned a knight as Fauques was, he realized that he could not feign disinterest in the beautiful and feminine characteristics of Ascelot’s fair complexion and silky-smooth skin. He met her on the day he was knighted, and even though his face showed a solemn expression befitting of the ceremony, the few short moments he took to avert his gaze onto the maiden standing close to the king himself was enough for him to glimpse what he sought for – and he kept wanting more. It was, of course, impossible for him to obtain such a beauty for a night, much less as a wife.
