“Lady Caroline…, Lady Caroline.”
The sound of the hushed voice close behind her as she made her way down the spiral staircase brought a smile to Caroline’s face, but she didn’t slow her pace and continued to hurry down the stone steps. It was only when she reached the bottom that she came to a stop. She glanced over her shoulder to see the concerned expression on the face of her approaching lady-in-waiting.
“Why, Grace,” she let out in an amused voice. “I’ve never seen you move so fast.”
“Lady Caroline,” the older woman replied in a slightly breathless voice when she reached the bottom step. “Your parents entrusted me with your wellbeing.”
