Four Savage Tyrants

“Alright, I get it. Vis, I’m in. I can’t say I’m not hesitant but I’ll support you as best I can.” Corai had a nagging feeling inside him. Something that was screaming out to defy the evil he had heard about. He did feel opposed on an intellectual level, a man with this much power was not one to be trifled with. On top of that nobles have great influence and feel it necessary to keep up appearances no matter what. Should they learn one of their own was assassinated they would point fingers and unleash destruction on those seen responsible regardless of their personal relationship to the dead. They would not stand such open rebellion purely on principle. This was a different type of power than titanic monsters. While frightening and blessed with overwhelming strength, once they were dead that was usually it. The consequences for slaying people in power was filled with fallout not so easily removed. Despite all that, his heart began to burn. A fire to wipe out injustice was beginning to go alight over his veins. He himself thought it was stupid he was taking all these risks but he couldn’t help himself. It was like he was now running into danger now because he knew that for him, where there’s a will there’s a way to win. “...I do not see why you cannot simply dispatch him. He sounds unworthy of your sympathy. If he were an elf he would have been executed in a manner most cruel by now for his transgressions against life. I could simply go up on a rooftop and loose a single arrow through his eye and pierce his brain. It wouldn’t even take three seconds. Though I guess I have no horse in this race. I’ll make sure neither of you is detected or captured.” Olivia closed her eyes and placed her back against the wall, though Corai noticed her right hand was still clasped in the perfect position to fire her bow as if she were fiddling with an invisible knife. Simply waiting for the opportunity to strike.  “Well, fraulein I’ll take that as acceptance from you too. Very well. The three B-Rank guards are as follows, Kuiz the sniper, Yarul the berserker, and Zard the bodyguard.  “Kuiz is a human man who focuses on destroying his enemies from afar which is to be expected but he takes a certain sick delight in the knowledge he can safely torture or kill a target without them being able to retaliate. He’s mostly motivated by money and status though, so he’s not loyal at all. Maybe we can get him to clear off with just the proper amount of pressure. He has frightening accuracy. I actually think he may be blessed or enchanted with the power to fire arrows completely straight, I’ve watched him many times now when executions are being carried out. Sure, he could just be that good but the sick and twisted confidence he has, I think that can only come from a place of having something up his sleeve that others don’t. Moving on... “Yarul is a hyena primal that is pretty much Kuiz’s opposite in approach and again fits his job perfectly, a warrior that loses himself to nothing but instinct and destroys anything he defines as a threat. Honestly, he’s almost as bad as his superior, he has a truly distasteful habit of going after women and brutalising them for his enjoyment, all he needs is the consent of the lord and he’ll go to town with his sick obsession. I’m guessing such hatred comes from his upbringing after looking into it but even so, nothing excuses harming women like that. I wouldn’t say he’s loyal either though, but he does appreciate the power he gets from his master. He wields a heavy halberd enchanted with earth magic, so if he hits the ground, prepare for debris to strike you. There’s probably little to no chance of negotiating with this guy. The last bodyguard is... “Zard is actually more of an odd case. He’s a dragonkin that serves Phonom with absolute dedication. The man could be kind and charitable to just about anyone but if Phonom gives the order, he’ll strike down someone he is on good terms with, not a seconds hesitation. He’s actually a cut above the others. He’s not quite A-Rank but he’s definitely up there among the best of B-Ranks. Being a dragonkin he’s immune to most basic magic and has a strong physical frame too. He’s not someone I want to fight at all. Pretty sure the lord has some sort of leverage on him that makes him act this way, if he’s just going about his day the man seems to be polite and kind but that all changes with just a single word from the man holding his chains. If I can remove his threat off the board with finding out what motivates him and zone in on that, well that’d be my ideal scenario. He’s probably the strongest. He uses his claws as his main weapon of choice, though he does carry a greatsword on his back, I’ve never seen him use it even once. “Then there’s the man himself. Lord Phonom is not a pushover. His magical power and output is certainly something to be feared. He has been getting a bit portly since the death of Alisa but he’s above getting his hands dirty when he really wants to send a message. He’s one of the Capable type mages, so he’s like you Corai, he can cast any magical type or element he wants. I’m sure you know how deadly that makes him. Unlike other nobles who coast off their talents, this bastard has seen battle in his younger years and his survival instincts haven’t dulled one bit… whenever a citizen does try to take vengeance they are swiftly dispatched by the three guards, but rarely someone will get within striking distance of him, and most of the time I think he lets them. He gives them a cruel reminder of his position. Magic melded to inflict pain and immobilize the target. Then, while they can’t move and have no hope of escape or pressing the attack, he’ll find the family and friends of the would-be assassin and make sure they die before their eyes.  “Like I said before… I can’t find any compassion in the man. Now, or in any of the record of him in the past. He just seems to delight in pain, not due to any hang-ups or complexes as a child, not because of some traumatic incident on the battlefield, there was no fall from grace. This man is a born tyrant. So let’s try to speak his language, fear and force. Corai, here’s the plan…”
