Desperation Vs Madness

1224 Words
Every moment I spend whining is a moment I could use to fight instead. He knows where I am by scent. I can’t do too much to mask that now. I can’t see him but I can for sure hear him. He hasn’t stopped laughing for even a second. I can’t be completely accurate in my reads but it’s better than being actually blind like this. He knows. He has an overwhelming advantage and he is having fun toying with me, just like he toyed with everyone else he’s tortured and killed. His threat isn’t even death. It’s pain. Bodily harm to the maximum. I need to stay alive until his defence drops to the point even I can hurt him. If my oxygen burning plan goes off first, then fine, that works too. What can I do? Well, when in doubt, stick to what you know best. Float. I kick off the ground and use my magic to suspend myself in midair. At least I can have more options in dodging now. He didn’t make this dome too small. It’s pretty tall. Probably because he just wants more room to move around but that works out for me. “Kehehehe...haha...hhhhaaahh. Yes, all your mages do this every damn time. It’s comical…!”  Shit. My instincts scream warning after warning non-stop in his presence. Well, I can hear his voice cracking by the second. His laughter becoming more warped and amused. Just stay like that. Jack yourself off to the fear you want to make? Fine. Just choke to death already!  “Here I come!” I hear it instantly. The sound of two feet slamming against a brick wall, followed by heavy slamming steps that came closer and closer coupled with howling laughter. Like the reaper closing in. It happens so fast. He ran up the wall and threw himself at me while swinging his halberd with ferocious force backed by fearsome velocity.  Cancel! I undo all my magic and let my body plummet to the ground below. It crashes against the  cobbled road. I didn’t have time to recast Float to break my fall. That’s the third hit I’ve taken from this guy and he wasn’t even trying. I hear a cracking sound. I can sense it. His feet are stuck against the roof of his makeshift prison.  Whether it’s the strength of his claws digging into the stone or that he has magic that allows him to stay upright on surfaces… he really is just playing. He holds all the cards. He can attack from any angle with unmatchable power, range, and speed. If he really just wanted to end it now, he could just go all out with aggression and it’d be over in seconds. I’d be insane to even think I’d last three minutes in the ring against him but… I have to fight.  Even if I can’t win. I have to swing. I refuse to just roll over and die. Luckily, I have tons of health so I can take punishment, well it might be unlikely too. To only be able to register pain over and over before dying. If I was weak in that department at least it’d be over quick.  Screw it. I can’t take this. I’ll try to accelerate the situation. I grab myself and push this body back to its feet yet again. This has to work... “Hey. Mangy mutt. I’m whispering but can hear me with those ears of yours, right? You’re a sick f**k. I’m sure you know and you even embrace it. I just have to think… how did you get that way? I can only guess… your mother was one massive w***e. It was the only notable thing about her worth knowing. Ah, but I guess that isn’t fair to whores. They are good people too… ah, I get it. She was an even bigger bitch.”  There was a moment of dead silence. No movements. Not a single sound. None of his laughter or his rapid panting. I hold my breath. I need to get him riled up. He wastes more oxygen and it’ll put him deeper into his berserk state. Take the bait, please… My eyes see something in the dark above me. He’s standing there like some sort of monstrous bat. Red. Pure red eyes of bloodshot wrath. A smile of white daggers that stretched seemingly forever. As if he was a wolf who was deigned to devour the sun in a single bite. There are no words from his jaws. He descends from above in a single drop. Thirsty for blood.  Yarul comes at me at a speed I can barely even perceive. He becomes nothing but a blur. A monster made of the darkness around me. I was in the belly of the beast and his silver fangs were the acid about to dissolve me to nothingness. I need to do this right. I cast as many of my minor powered spells as possible as quickly as I can, hoping that stacking them together create a sum larger than their parts. Timestop. Accelerate. Slowdown. Warp. Gravity. Leap. Float. Enhance. A frozen moment to process the rest of my spells. To fire them like bullets from a chamber. Time slows down for him and moves faster for me. Only by one fraction of a second but it helps. I cast warp which moves me just an inch to the left. I drop gravity in a spot a few inches to my right. I cast leap to put a little extra force into my legs as I jump and gain a bit of height, letting me be just above him as he crashes below in the spot I was in just half a moment ago.  Lastly, I enhance my strength in my arms and legs and drop myself on his back. I grip around his neck and dig my toes into his waist. There’s no way I can choke him with my measly strength. I can, however, use this blindspot to stay on him. Enrage him further as he tries to throw me off. I can hold on for dear life and take less damage while wasting his time. I just need time. I always need more time. So I’ll bite. I’ll claw. I’ll rip every second I can from his life even if I have to use every card in my deck to do it. I don’t need to try and win. As long as I don’t lose and keep it that way… things will turn in my favour!  If he’s going to go all out to harm me, drop into the depths of pure madness? I’ll just have to go deeper than him with raw desperation. I’ll struggle until I’m the last survivor in this cage match!
