Enduring Star

“Bastard! Dispel Magic! Dispel Curse! Dispel Status! Dammit! Why won’t anything work!? You cannot be stronger than me! This stupid spell! Just a lucky rat! I got it! I’ll just kill you before it finishes casting! Glacial Wave!”  A wall of chilling frost surged out not unlike the breath attacks of Zard before. Corai wasn’t blessed with the same resistance as Alisa. This would deal a lot of damage and not at all be pleasant… but it wouldn’t kill him. “Counterspell Effect.” Relying on his magical effect stat he could avoid freezing and frostbite. He could even try to drain most of the cold. The raw damage of the spell though was beyond him.  The storm of freezing subzero snow coated his entire being, it wasn’t long before he fell to the ground. A common recurrence today but it was coupled with another. Getting back up again despite the odds and his wounds. Corai had a massive health pool. A lot of damage wouldn’t put the threat of death on him. Percentage damage over time was particularly effective against him though, so bleeding out, burning, poison, and all manner of horrible afflictions that lead to excruciating pain. If the source was magical in nature he could stave most of if not all of it off as long as he concentrated. Well, bleeding would usually be physical in nature, which is why he was terrified of close counter brawling. It gave him a real threat of death and was painful but not quick. Since coming to this world all he could do was roll with the hits before he got his Doom spell. In fact, in a way he still was just taking strike after strike, waiting for his opponent to topple over. “Don’t worry. I’ve got this. He can’t do s**t to me.” Corai smirked. It hurt like hell but he was winning. Just go the distance in the ring and the decision was his. “How dare you! Watch! I’ll reduce you to cinders! Chaos Flare!” This time a ball of molten flame five times the size of Corai’s body mass. “Bring it on you impotent excuse of a mage!” Corai runs towards the flames! Most other people would be consumed in seconds. He stood in the dead centre. Almost every spell was just a big number of mana and damage as long as he had health left to spare. He was already in pretty bad shape from his fight with Yarul but as long as he wasn’t bleeding out and the wounds stay closed he was sure he could take whatever the frustrated and furious lord was dishing out. “Please, sir. May I have another?” A growling roar of growing hatred. Phonom needed to kill Corai before his time is out. “You’ve got two minutes left. It’s like you’re not even trying! That can’t be your best right!? Show me some guts! You’ve ripped plenty out of the innocents you are supposed to protect!”  “Silence you cur! Your death will be-!” Corai began to laugh without a care in the world at the man he had doomed to die. “f**k you! I’ll rip you to shreds! Cyclone Cutter!” A swirling storm strikes Corai from every direction. If this had been a legitimate natural disaster the force of it would have sent him flying or if it was manmade by physical means it would cut his skin and drain his body of blood. It was not. It was the petulant magical anger of a man who was too used to getting his way. So the countless blades of wind and up drafting and twisting force is just a minor nuisance. One he could flip back at the user. Corai wouldn’t stop laughing. As the storm intensified he just laughed louder and louder as if the world’s funniest joke had just been told to him and he had been having a particularly bad day. His voice was being carried by the wind and growing by the second. A cackling phantom dwelling in the eye of the tornado. Casting amplify only made his maniacal joy even bigger. His voice boomed throughout the entire city now and Corai knew it was time for a bit of fun. “Change.” Corai altered his clothes and applied the makeup he usually wore as of late. He as always cast float on himself as he gradually rose from the ground into the skies above the twister his victim had conjured. “I am the Demon Khan Zelo! Know it is I and I alone that brought death to the lord of this city! I did it not at the behest of the citizens but because I am the man who will slay all inferior evils in this world! Know the name of the true master of darkness! For too long this petty villainy with no flare or nuance has been left alone. No longer! I shall rid the lands of such pathetic eyesores! Death comes to you Phonom in just a minute!” Hamming it up to the max.  Phonom could swear the veins on his head were bursting. “You. Are you mocking me? Making fun of me!? No one does that! No one has ever done that! I’ll show you… I’ll end you!” Mana began to crackle in the air at an alarming pace. This wasn’t quite the ultimatum explosion he had promised earlier but it was still an alarming amount of power. “Supreme Spell: Meteor!”  The sky above parts as a boulder coated in flame and dropping with unparalleled momentum made its way down towards a single man. Corai internally cursed. This might be pretty bad. He might survive by the skin of his teeth at best… if he was eyeballing this right. He could only make a rough estimate. Still, he had committed to the bit. It would make sense for Corai the actor to run. The Demon Khan Zelo would not. So he instead of moving back decided to move even further upwards towards the threat. He places both hands against the asteroid and pushes with all his might. It would do nothing of course but it just had to look good. Taking a realistic fall is something he learned very quickly in the business he had made for himself. The gravity he was facing felt like it would break every bone in his body, and that was bad because he already felt like half of it had been fractured by Yarul earlier… still he presses and pushes on. The crowd looked up to the man challenging a falling star. Suspense gripped them. Who would be crazy enough to do such a thing? Only a madman or a hero. It was looking like Zelo was a bit of both. “Graaaarrggghhuuuugghhhh!” Corai thought he might as well go all out in making it look good. He used his magic to coat his body in a glowing diamond blue aura that was just as large as the meteor he faced. Two stars doing battle in the light of the sun.  Cracks formed in the meteor. Corai’s eyes opened wide. Small fractures formed across the entire structure of the burning rock. What was happening? He wasn’t the cause…  Small fragments of debris fell down and burnt out into stardust...
