CHAPTER 13

FREYA

(1) I woke up to Tony still driving. I looked around and noticed it was day now. I was about to ask how long he'd been driving but he put his finger to his mouth and looked back, warning me not to wake Luke. I pulled out my phone to see how far away we'd gotten. I'm still trying to figure out how to work this thing but I'm getting the hang of it, I think. I asked how far I was from California. It said 20 hours, which meant we'd been on the road for 28 hours. I looked at Tony, then I showed him my phone, pointing at the time he drove for 8 hours without sleep.

(2)I went to wake Luke up but he tried to stop me. I looked at Tony and gave him the most serious look I could muster, making him aware of the fact that I was not playing. I reached back and woke Luke up. I told him how long Tony had been driving and he got super defensive, telling Tony to pull over right away. Of course, Tony couldn't just immediately pull over so he told him to wait till the next stop. Luke was not satisfied because he stared at Tony the entire way there. I sat back in my seat and felt warm inside. I kept looking at Tony and laughing because he looked so nervous with Luke's staring.

(3)the ride went very fast because, before I knew it, we were already at the rest area. It was kinda small but it was really pretty. At the same time, there were a few cars in the parking lot but I didn't see a single person around. We parked the truck and all got out. Before I knew it, Luke was trying to punch Tony for driving too long. He missed the first time but he was not ready to give up. I simply watched them until they finally finished, then we all three went into the bathroom. "It's really cold in hear", I thought to myself. I sat down on the toilet to use it. I had seen the bruises on my legs from just a few days ago. I never wanted to go back to that life. I closed my eyes and tried to compose myself. "Find Nova" said a feint whisper, "who was that," I asked out loud. There was no answer and nobody around either.

(4)I decided to let it go and finish my business there in the bathroom. I went outside and the three of us all went back to the truck. Luke got in the driver's seat, of course, I got in the passenger's seat, and Tony got in the back so he could be more comfortable. We went to a nearby restaurant and got something to eat. We decided to go in because we needed to stretch out our legs a little bit more and we still had a really big head start on my parents, so we were not too worried. I pulled up my hoodie before we went inside so no one would recognize me. Just in case, we went up to the cash stand and ordered food. I ordered a burrito because I was really craving that right now. I didn't pay attention to what the boys ordered. I simply walked away and looked around at all the small trinkets around. There were a lot of cute things.

(5). The thing that pointed out the most was a little brown bear, but it's eyes were a very pretty bright purple. It felt safe and warm. I picked it up "find Jacob". I dropped the bear and looked around, but there was nobody near by. I picked the bear back up and hung it on the rack where it originally was. I decided to head back to the boys to see if the food was done and, sure enough, it was they were already happily eating their food without me.

(6) I sat next to Luke and grabbed my burrito. I started to eat my food, which was so good it looked like the boys had burgers. "Of course", I thought to myself. We chatted and finished eating. The boys went to look around the store and I decided to refill my drink for the road. After about ten more minutes, we all went back to the truck and left. Tony was out in less then three minutes, which wasn't surprising considering he'd been on the road driving alone for 8 hours.

(7) For the first hour it was quiet. We didn't say much to each other but the silence was nice. Then Luke decided to break the silence. "So how did you sleep last night" he asked. I looked at him and told him I slept fine. "The car isn't that bad to sleep in. It's actually kinda comfortable", I told him. "I agree, I mean I slept in the back, so of course, I was comfortable with all the space, but yeah, your right" he said. I decided to switch the conversation and tell him about the weird voices I was hearing.

(8) I wanted to see if he'd heard them to "I think I'm going crazy", I said. He looked at me and asked why I thought that. I told him about the rest stop when I closed my eyes and the voice told me to find someone. I couldn't remember the name, it was a weird one. I think the name was Nora. Nova? I could be wrong, but then, back at the restaurant, I picked up a bear with purple eyes... "wait Freya, are you talking about this bear?" He pulled out the bear and passed it to me. It was indeed the bear that I picked up at the restaurant. "Yes, this is the bear, did you buy it from the little shop" I asked. "Actually, no, it was free. The shop owner said he'd never seen the bear and that it wasn't his, so he just gave it to me. He said some little kid had left it but, the weird part is that it felt like it was calling out to me as if it's alive and wants to be with me and, I don't know its crazy, but I feel like he's super important to me" said Luke.

(9) I looked at him like he was crazy, but he seemed like he genuinely understood what he was saying, so I wasn't going to call him crazy even though he kinda did sound like it. I gave him back his bear and finished telling him my story. I told him about how I picked up the bear and heard the voice tell me to find someone named Jacob. "Look them up on your phone" said Luke. Good idea. I said. I pulled out my phone and looked up their names. At first, I did it individually but nothing came up, so I searched for their names together. There was still nothing. I told Luke that whatever I was supposed to find was not on Google. He chuckled and told me that Google doesn't always have the information needed. I put my phone away. "I guess we can ask Tony about it when he wakes up," I said. Luke agreed, since Tony was old and maybe did have information. I decided to just watch out the window. Everything around was so pretty.

LUKE

I couldn't believe Tony drove all that time alone. I decided to stare him down until we got to the rest stop. When we got there, I figured I'd teach him a lesson, but that didn't go so well... Once we were finished at the rest stop, we went to find something to eat. We stopped at a small fast food restaurant with a shop attached to it. We ordered our food and waited for it to come out. Freya went to look at the shop. While we waited, the food came up. Me and Tony started eating and Freya joined us a few minutes later. The food was really good. After eating, we looked around the shop and I felt a pull on my body. I followed the pull to a small set up. Then my hand just picked up a bear. It was cute. It had purple eyes. I decided to buy it so I walked to the counter and placed it in front of the cashier. "Um what is that for", the man asked. I'd like to buy this, I told him.

(10) "Sorry sir, but I've never seen that before in my life. We don't sell that here. Some little kid must have dropped it" said the man. Oh thanks, I said. I placed the bear in my pocket, and went to meet up with Freya and Tony. We all walked out to the car and got in. I started driving and Tony fell asleep right away. haha I'm glad Freya woke me up earlier. We were silent for awhile, but then I broke the silence because I was getting bored of staring at the ride. I asked Freya how she slept, and we got into this conversation about how comfortable the truck is. I mean yes it is, that's for sure, but it was a boring conversation. She must have sensed the same thing, so she started telling me about how she was hearing voices, and she heard them at the restaurant, When she picked up a bear with purple eyes. My bear, I pulled it out and showed her the bear. Sure enough, it was the same Bear. I told her how I felt drawn to it, and felt the need to be with it. She then told me about what it said, telling her to find someone named Jacob. She looked up the name, but nothing came up, so that was disappointing. I set the bear in the slot on top of the dash so we could admire it. So, aside from all the weird things happening to us lately, are you excited about living in California", I asked Freya. She nodded her head and told me how badly she wanted to visit Disneyland.

(11) "Have you ever been to California" she asked. "Yeah', I went there a few years ago with my mom and dad. We were there to visit my grandparents and my little cousins. It's awesome there" I said. There are these gigantic trees all around and there's so many people and the traffic there is incredible. It's always busy there, In fact we went to Hollywood and there was this street with so many stores and there were so many people. It was awesome. "Did you visit Disneyland?" Freya asked. "No, we went to Universal studios instead, which was probably equally amazing. I can't wait to show you all the sights and parks when we get there. In fact, pull out your phone. I wanna know how much farther we have left to get there" I said.

(12) she pulled out her phone and typed in our destination "we still have another 20 hours. I don't know if I can wait any longer. I wanna see this place so badly. oooh we should visit your family While we are there", she said. "No, my parents said I can't. They said they can't know Ill be there. We will be in the same state but not the same city anyway, so it would be a long drive to see them" I said. "Well, if you were allowed to go see them, a long drive definitely wouldn't be a big problem. I mean we've been driving for the past 30 hours with hardly any stops. We've only been gone two days and were already over half way there" she said. I couldn't disagree with her. She was right. We've managed to drive all this way and two hours wouldn't be anything to see my family, but we still can't see them anyway, so that doesn't even matter. "your right Freya, but it doesn't change the fact that we're still not allowed to go visit them my mom and dad would get mad at all three of us" I said. "I know it would just be kinda cool" she said. I nodded my head but didn't know what else to say. So I left it at that. She turned her head and looked out her window as I drove.
