As the moon rises

Chapter 3

"Oh, my head." I sigh and turn over, shrieking as my face meets someone's foot.

I detest feet.

I sit up immediately and break out laughing as I take in the predicament, I am now in.

We came back to Cassie's last night. I went upstairs immediately away and collapsed on the bed. However, I did not realize that I was going to be joined by everyone else. Cassie is resting next to me, but in between us are Kayla and Cade, both upside down on the bed, ergo, the feet in my face.

"Someone could have warned me that we were going to top and tail," I exclaim, unable to stop my laughter as everyone stirs awake at my voice.

"I'm sorry I forgot there's no bedding on the spare bed," Cassie grumbles, stretching as she sat up.

"It seemed like a good idea last night," Kayla answers, smiling shyly at me.

"Morning, ladies," Cade welcomes us.

His long brown hair drapes messily about his head as he stretches and laughs at us.

And so, it continues. Aware that Cade only has a week left with us, we spend most days with him, going out in the evenings and hanging out throughout the day. I never expected us all to get along so well, I suppose the girls and I are simply thankful for someone fresh in the pack.

On Cade's final day, the girls and I drop him off at work and say goodbye. It's not like we won't see him again, but he's now got his final test back at his own pack, which means he'll be occupied for a few weeks.

It's not exactly like we can simply drop over and see him. If my folks found out, I'd visited the Black Mountain pack they'd toss a fit. I'm not even sure I'd go anyhow. I've heard enough stuff about that pack to frighten me off for life. and something tells me they are extremely different from Cade.

I go into town to do some shopping; Kayla's twenty-first birthday is coming up in two months and I want to purchase something very special for her. I'm in the process of paying for some clothing when my phone calls, I grin as I see Cade's face on the screen.

"Hi. Si. I finished early and I'm back at my house now. I was just wondering if you wanted to meet up for a bit?" He says.

I finish at the till and go over to my vehicle outside.

"Yeah, absolutely. Where do you want to meet?

"Well, I figured you could come here, knowing as I'll probably have you gals around eventually. Why don't you come today? Are the females free?" He queries and an apprehensive sensation sets in my gut.

"No, they're both working until this evening. I'm not sure about coming over, Cade...I don't believe your Alpha would enjoy my being on your territory," I remark uncertainly.

When someone wishes to enter into our domain, you're expected to provide at least 24 hours' notice to acquire clearance and that's with my niece Alpha, I can't image Cade's

Alpha takes it nicely.

"Hmm, alright. Don't worry, I understand it. Do you know where the old farm is? At the end of town? It's on the boundary of my pack's territory," he adds, and I feel much more comfortable with that notion.

"Great, I'm cool with that!"

"Good, are you free to come now?"

"Yeah, I've just got in my car."

"Okay, drive to the old farm, you may park there. If you walk into the trees, you'll come find a clearing that's on the boundary. I'll meet you there and we can go for a run or anything." he answers, and I start the engine.

"Okay, see you in a bit."

We say our goodbyes and I pull out of the parking place and drive. down the high-street towards the outside of town. The old farm is a derelict barn situated off the main road that exits the town.

I turn left along it and drive to the end where the road terminates. I park the vehicle and take my purse, so I can put my clothes in it if we go for a run. I'm pleased I wore my thick heeled boots today, so I don't sink in the grass as I go past the fading red barn and towards the tree line.

I'm happy for my jacket as I walk into the shade of the canopy, but I wish Cade had said this sooner since my tight skirt doesn't exactly make trekking through the forest easy.
