CHAPTER 2:Bigger Devil

Adela is at the Cemetery visiting her dad as usual. The morning breeze brushed strands of hair across her face,her lips slightly pouted and on her hands her flowers. Oh dad,if only you were here?Today is such a joyous occasion and I miss you more today,she exclaimed with her head tilted to the side. Antonio Rodriguez is also at the Cemetery visiting his wife,he saw Adela,astonished by her beauty,he walked up to her smiling. Hola,he greeted. They both gave each other a peck on the cheek. Today is a good day,he said smiling to her. It would have been better if my father was here. He would have been the happiest man on earth seeing his eldest daughter get married,she sighed. What of you,why are you here?she asked. Mrs Isabel died years ago and here you are still mourning,Adela said with all sincerity in her eyes.The pain doesn't stop but your wounds will heal,Antonio replied assuredly. They both sat on the pavement talking for a while. I see this place as a garden and not as a Cemetery, It brings me the emotion that I am alive and I have to move on,Antionio said smiling at Adela. I want to make you a proposition,marry me and bear me an heir and I will restore all the Santillana family as ever lost. I will also make you very happy,Antonio said to her assuredly. I will leave you to think about it,he said,gave her a peck and left. Adela too stunned to speak,her hand running through her hair and her mouth slightly agape,shocked that Antonio asked her to marry him. I mean he is in his fifties,old enough to be my father,she said slowly. But she thought of something and she chuckled devilishly adjusting her dress.

At the Rodriguez mansion,the helpers are seated around the table gossiping. Those Santillana women are dangerous,it's no news that they are left with nothing, Teresa,a plumpy woman with a melodious laughter said. Women,stop gossiping in my kitchen,retorted Saul angrily. He is an aged and average height man.Sandra,another maid gesticulating and said i am so sure Mrs Sofia wants to trap Mr Antonio as well,hence the invite to the wedding. Those women have no shame. Everyone is engrossed with chatting and working,no one seems to notice Lola came in.My dad is not going to love another woman other than my mom,she screamed running up the stairs dramatically.

Adela is back home, she is walking into the house. She suddenly remembered something,she put her phone on her lips and began dialing a number. Hello Mr.Antonio,please is there a way you can stop Derek from coming to the wedding? Today is a happy day for my sister and I want her past to be where it is supposed to be,the past. She said with her tone a little high.If he gets you so worked up,i will try to stop him from coming.Have you thought about my proposal? He asked stammeringly. As Adela is about to reply to the question,her mother Sofia called for her. I will see you at the wedding,I have to go now,my mom is calling for me. Bye,she said quickly ending the call. You called for me,she said to her mom. Finally the princess answered,who were you on the phone with,Sofia queried. I was talking to Mr Antonio,Adela replied grinning devilishly. You should have invited him home as a courtesy,Sofia said hyperventilating.Quit being a dramatist mom,it doesn't suit you,Adela barked slightly irritated. I saw him when I went to visit my dad at the cemetery,she said, tossing her phone to the chair. Did he mention if he will be coming to the wedding? Sofia asked curiously. Why do you care if he is coming or not? Adela demanded, rolling her eyes. Obviously ,because he is one of the most powerful and successful businessmen in Miami and LA,Sofia replied nervously with her voice vibrating. Oh mom,please spare me. You want to woo him,you are so shameless Sofia.My God! Even at your daughter's wedding,get a life,Adela said furiously. Adela walked out on her to her sister's room. Patricia's back is turned to her and she is crying profusely. I can't stand that woman,My God,Adela said irritated. She noticed Patricia was quiet,so she stopped fuming and went to meet her. What is wrong Patricia,she asked worriedly. Are you having cold feet? She sat on the bed and placed Patricia's head on her lap. Patricia narrated the whole incident that took place between her,Nicholas and their mother to her. When did mom become like this? Patricia asked in tears. She has always been a vulture,you just refused to see it sister,answered Adela annoyingly. Sofias life has always revolved around money,Adela said with disdain.She thinks only about money. I hate her,if only you know how much I hate that woman.Adela remembered when she saw her dad walking in on her mom cheating with another man,which was one of the causes of his death.Tears rolling down her cheeks. If only dad were here,all this won't be happening,said Patricia. Consoling her sister,you are doing the right thing getting married. I can't wait to leave this house and be independent and get away from her and the Santillana name.

Sofia called Nicholas,and they met up in a cafe. They discussed the prenuptial agreement,she convinced Nicholas cunningly that if what his father wants is to think Patricia is getting married for the money,then so be it. We all know it's not true,Patricia loves you and will never marry you for your money. Nicholas agreed noddingly,and tore the prenuptial agreement.

The wedding went smoothly.Patricia looked so happy and so good with Nicholas by her side. Derek walks into the wedding,smirking and saluting Adela. Adela on the other hand,looked irritated by him.It is time to throw the bouquet,and it is caught by Sofia smiling sheepishly. She gave the flowers to Adela, you are the next to get married. Adela collected it from her with a fake smile while rolling her eyes.Derek cant stop staring at the couple,while Adela is staring at him with annoyance.Sofia is pathetically trying to get Antonio to notice her,but he isn't bulging.

Anyways,mom,I am going to ask Antonio to dance with me,she said smiling. Are you worried that I will steal your next victim,Adela said chuckling. Of course not,you can't do anything like that.You can only use your insolence to ruin it,which i am counting on you not to,Sofia said ringling her fingers. Besides, Antonio Rodriguez is melting for me,said Sofia smiling,sure of this feeling Antonio has for her. I am ashamed of you,said Adela walking away furiously,leaving her mom stunned to speak.

The next morning,Adela is dressing up,brushing her hair in the mirror. She remembered what her mom said to her and smiled devilishly. Adela and Antonio met up at the Cemetery,exchanged their morning pleasantries.After that,they kissed passionately with both of them out of breath,smiling. I have thought about your proposal,she said smiling. I agree to marry you, Antonio was ecstatic,he could not believe his ears. He nodded encouragingly for Adela to go on. But on one condition. Adela says seriously,her face devoid of a smile.
