CHAPTER 4:A SHOCKING PROPOSAL

Lola is on her bed in her room crying,her nanny Miss Denise is consoling her.Miss Adela is a good woman,you will get along with her. I just told you about the proposal early because your father asked me to speak with you.Please darling,take it easy,be patient,she pleaded with her. She will replace my mother,said Lola weeping.No one will replace your mother,I promise,Denise said assuredly touching Lola’s chin to look at her eyes. Will she sleep on my mothers bed,Lola asked with tears in her eyes. I don't know,Denise said, shaking her head,but I think she will get rid of old stuff and buy new things. But that's not important,look at me,calm down.You will stand by your dad,Denise said. Lola nodded and gave her a tight hug.

At the Santillana mansion,Adela was brushing her makeup. Patricia is there staring at her lovingly. I hope Derek is not disturbing you anymore. If he is, let me know,I will report him to his Uncle,she said sternly. Patricia is staring at her weirdly and smiling. Yesterday,I saw how affectionate you and Mr Antonio were with each other,she said smiling. I really trust him,with everything that happened with dad,we have become good friends,Adela shrugged. Hola ladies,Sofia walked in. i hope i am invited to this sisters meeting,asked Sofia.No, mother,we were talking about you and your new conquest,Mr Antonio. He who laughs last,laughs best. We will see. Sofia said walking away.Well sis, i am off. Patricia gave her sister a kiss. At home,Patricia told Nicholas all about her past relationship with Derek.At first he was jealous and didn't take it well,but Patricia assured him,showed him the ring on her finger and they kissed passionately. What of your parents?Are they still upset with us,she asked.They will come around,he shrugged. I really do hope so.She took a deep breath in.

At the Rodriguez mansion,Mr Antonio just got back from work,he is parking his car and walking in.As he stepped into the house,he saw Saul the chef. Good evening sir,everyone has had dinner already.I will have Teresa bring yours to your room,he said curtseying. Thank you Saul,that won't be necessary. I had dinner on my way home.Is Lola in her room,Antonio asked, giving the chef a warm smile. Oh yes sir,Miss Denise just left her room.Alright then,goodnight sir.He said bowing and leaving.Antonio went up the stairs to Lola’s room.Lola was on her bed,dressed in her pajamas,her honey brown hair spread on it.She was looking rather gloomy.Antonio sat on her bed,rubbing her back.Adela and i understand each other,he said. Over a month ago,when i go to your mom’s grave,i see her there at her dad’s.And with time,little by little,things just happened,he said calmly,hoping she will understand.But why haven't you told me about her,Lola asked with tears in her eyes.I didn't want to hurt you and Santi,honey, believe me,i would never do anything that would hurt you.He assured her.Its been a long day,rest and sleep on it,we will pick up from where we left off tomorrow.He hugged her and gave her a peck on her forehead while wiping her tears.I love you very much honey,he said and left.Lola replied when he left the room,hugged her pillow tightly and continued weeping.

At the Santillana mansion,Adela was in the living room in a curve hugging black dress and her permed bob hair,she had a red lippie on.Adela was pouring herself a drink when her mom entered.So what did the lawyer say,she asked indifferently.Nicholas check won't be enough,but it will keep the bank away for a while,replied Sofia. Adela rolled her eyes at this,irritated.Do not concern yourself with that dear,very soon all this will be over and done with,Sofia replied happily. I will rather be dead than poor,Sofia said sincerely. Adela had her back turned to her,but she was squeezing her face. She looked disgusted by her mother.I think you should invite Mr Antonio tomorrow,Adela said taking a sip of her wine.Just take a look at you,you criticize me so much,but anytime i bring up our debt,you bring up his name,Sofia said laughing.Oh honey,you and i aren't so different,we have the same nose for money,Sofia said chuckling and rubbing her palms.

Derek is in his room,preparing for his nightly boxing exercise. A magazine is kept on the bed,he picks it up and is staring at the picture of he,his uncle and Adela.He remembered what Santi said on how he and Adela would have made the perfect couple.He can't still believe the woman his Uncle is marrying is Adela. But she is so young,he thought.Obviously,she is taking advantage of my uncle,she is only after his money,and he on the other hand is swept off his feet.He kept on boxing out of anger,till he eventually got knocked out. The next morning,Lola went to see Antonio in the studio,gave him her blessings to be with Adela and they were all smiles.She demanded to see the picture Mr Antonio was drawing,he told her to exercise patience.She left happily under the deceit that he was drawing her.

At the Santillana mansion,Patricia and her husband came to have breakfast with her mom.Nicholas, your parents humiliated us at the wedding,they left angrily without saying goodbye,Sofia said.I am sorry ma'am,Nicholas apologized with all sincerity. Very soon we won't need them anymore,Sofia said looking at the picture of Antonio in a magazine.While all this was happening,Adela was gazing at them from her room,slightly irritayed.Antonio’s call came in,knocking her out of that feeling.They spoke at length,he informed her that he already spoke to lola about them and she has finally accepted their love.Adela was happy about that.I think you should come and tell my mom too,but don't tell her on the phone,tell her in person,Adela said smirking.Antonio called Sofia and informed her that he is coming to see her,to discuss something very important, a good news. Sofia is very happy about this,the time has finally come,she announced happily.Adela is laughing.Antonio arrived at the Santillana mansion in the company of Derek. He told Derek that he appreciates his support,that he sees him as a son and not a nephew. Derek gave him a tight hug. They came down from the car and went into the Santillana’s house.Derek is standing behind is uncle,rubbing his hair and not feeling comfortable about being there and with whatever his uncle was about to say.I am glad everyone is here,Antonio said smiling rubbing his palms,and Nicholas must understand me,he is been through this,he said smiling ,looking at Nicholas.Mrs Sofia,Antonio said holding her hands. Uncle,Derek tries to stop him from saying anything.Calm down Derek,Antonio smiled at him.He kept on holding Sofia’s hand and talking to her.You know i have been single for a longtime now,he said smiling at her,waiting for her assurance to keep going.Sofia gave it to him,by smiling so hard,her eyes glistening with admiration..At this point,Adela was laughing silently.Antonio kept on going,today i feel different about someone and she also feels the same.Sofia nodded in encouragement. I will stop beating around the bush,Antonio said, smiling nervously. Yes i think so too,we all know what you are going to say,Sofia said smiling lovingly.Mrs Sofia,she nodded encouragingly,smiling widely,what i want to say, is to ask for Adela’s hand in marriage,Antonio said,his eyes begging for her approval.Sofia’s mouth is slightly opened,she is stunned,her smile seized,she glanced at Adela who was smiling,twirling her hair and enjoying the ridicule.
