I hated to dream, dreams always seemed to show what the subconscious deep inside a persons mind is terrified off. I did not need to relive my fears in my dreams for I have already lived them in the last 8 years I spent locked in my own room being used by him. There were many times when I wish that I were a vampire so I wouldn't have to deal with the dreams that my subconscious seems to force upon me every single night. I wish there was a way to escape this, I missed having a peaceful sleep, believe it or not, it's quite tiring.
"Lilo, you there?" Cass, my boss, says as she snaps her fingers in front of me,
"You've been distracted today, did you sleep well?" she asked sounding worried, as if someone could worry about me,
"Yeah, I'm fine, just stayed up painting a bit late last night, sorry. I will be more attentive from now on," I say, it had been a few weeks since I was working in this coffee shop. It was a horror theme based one, which is what made me sign up for it. As a child, before my mother passed away, I would sit around on the weekends watching horror movies with my parents, which obviously made me get up many times in the middle of the night cause of the monsters, but my mum always knew how to comfort me and put me right back to sleep. How much I missed those times, when things were simple.
Hearing the door opening I glace up, to see none other than Cass' boyfriend and a group of guys walking in, looking at them, I noticed that they were the famous bikers everyone seemed to fear in this town, but Cass had told me that the stories on the streets were over-exaggerated and that they were not at all scary,
"Baby!" Cass squeals, as she rushes to hug him,
"What can I get for you today?" I said, as one of them with hazel brown eyes came up, those eyes seemed so warm and familiar, I had grown used to seeing them a few times before, but I never got his name...
"Just a monster and a slice of the slasher cake," He grumbled, I quickly rambled to get the slice and the monster from the fridge and handed it to him,
"How much?" He asked,
"DON'T YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT IT STITCH!" Cass growls at him, causing him to chuckle and extend his hand towards me, I was so shocked by this gesture that I just stayed in place motionless. 'Stitch huh?' I thought to myself.
He shook his head and grabbed my hand stuffing a ten pound note in my hand, and just like that he grabbed his things and walked away, but not before winking in my direction and making a shushing motion. As he walked away, I came back to reality and motioned Cass to come over, as she comes over she hands her hand out giving her the note she heads to the mysterious man who seemed to be named Stitch, and smacks the back of his head and gives him the note, he looked pver and shook his head. This had been a normal thing over the few weeks I had been working, Cass never accepted money from any of the bikers, I never really understood why but I didn't get involved.
The rest of the day passes by quickly and before I know it, it's already 6 o'clock and my shift had ended, I helped Cass clean up even though she said that she didn't need any help,
"Lilo, you know that you can talk to me any time you want right? I mean, if you have any problems or whatever you can count on me, or even Killjoy. Even though everyone is scared of them, they are really nice and they're job is to protect." Cass says as she locks up the coffee shop,
"I know everything isn't okay so don't even try saying it is. I'm just saying that if you need help the guys can help, cause I know what it's like to need help escaping from someone Lilo..."
"Thank you Cass, but everything is okay, I'm not escaping or running away from anything," I lied easily, my heart sunk at the lie because even though I haven't known Cass for a long time, I had started to get to know her, and I could she that she had gone through something.
Saying our goodbyes, I head over to my house, the thoughts of telling her whats going on runs through my head, but when they find out who I'm running away from they might just hand me over instead of helping me. Damien was a powerful person and he could give anything he wanted to the club and it would be next to impossible for them to turn the offer down. I knew that Damien had a power over everyone without them knowing, I had witnessed and experienced what he was capable of. He could bring down people with just a snap of his fingers, and those who were brave enough to fight back, found their way to a six feet deep bed. The more I thought about his the more I realized that I was alone no matter what the outcome would be, I couldn't rely on anyone.
Walking into to the apartment, I saw the painting that was in the middle of the coffee table, where I had left for it to dry. What I told Cass wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the complete truth either, I had indeed spent the night painting but I hadn't gone to bed at all, I spent the whole night painting. She knew that Cass wouldn't understand the fear I had of falling asleep, and even if she did that meant the I had to tell her the reasons of having sleepless nights. Heading to the kitchen, I made myself some coffee, grabbed the painting brushes that were left on the sink after I washed them, and headed to the couch to continue the painting. It was one of my ways to escape reality and the dreams, the nightmares and to keep me up, but I knew that tonight I needed to sleep or I was doomed for work tomorrow. I let the brush and the colours take over my body as I completed the painting I had been working on since last night. It had been ages since I had last painted, but yesterday my hands began to itch and I knew that I had to do something, and at least I could sell the painting and get some extra bucks so I could move onto the next town.
A few hours later my eyes began to droop, and that meant that it was time to sleep, even though I did everything not to, I was still human and I had to rest. Slipping my jeans off and I laid down on the bed, covering up myself I took a deep breath, closing my eyes I let the darkness consume me.
Looking around I notice that I'm sitting in front of the coffee shop, "Are you lost little girl?" A familiar voice calls out scaring me, glancing up I see that the stranger is standing directly under the light making it next to impossible for me to see his face, but his smile, oh god his smile, so visible and so f*****g creepy. Shaking my head as to answer the question, I get up and walk away. I take a few turns and loose myself on the way, getting worried I pick up my pace a little cause all I wanted was to go back home.Whilst walking and trying to figure out where the actual f**k I am, the hair on the back on my neck rises, I glance back and noticed that the creepy fuckerwas following me. I realized that for my own safety I had to loose this him,so I picked up me speed and cut yet another corner to wherever it would lead me, couldn'tget even more lost now couldI?
"Wait little girl, I have something for you! Come back!"
My judgement knew better than to listen to a creep... picking up my pace, I cut yet another corner and suddenly realization dawns upon me and recognize where I ended up... In front of me stood the one and only, Faded Bones club house...
"Little girl, I wont hurt you.. don't run off."
My back stiffens, he was right behind me, how the f**k did that happen... My breathing quickens in fear as I feel a hand on my neck and travels its way up to my hair thats in a ponytail I knew that touch far to well to know who exactly was following me, "Let me go Damien," "Oh look what we have here, someone actually grew the balls!!!" He laughed out, I tried to make a break for the club, but he grabbed me by the hair and pulled me back, and suddenly I was in my old room. Looking around my breathing quickens and I fell an anxiety attack come up, there was no way out, he had barred the windows and chained me to the bed. I was doomed, "Let's fix that attitude of yours now, shall we?" Damien growls out as he pulls out his belt,
Jolting up, I realize that it was only a dream, I curled up in a ball, and just bawled, I calm my breathing down after a few moments and try to compose myself as I still had to get up and go to work today. Taking a few deep breaths, I remove the phone from the charging port and look at the time, I had exactly an hour before having to go to work. Quickly grabbing my stuff I head to the bathroom and take a quick shower. Lathing my body with soap I feel all the scars that was left behind by him, and due to all the scars scattered on my body I loathed myself. There was nothing to make me change my mind. Drying myself I get dressed, refusing to look in the mirror, I quickly slip on my only pair of boots and head to work, with exactly 20 minutes to spare.
As I head inside, Cass already has our morning coffee ready, grabbing the cup I follow her to the back and take out a cigarette. This was our morning ritual, getting in, grabbing coffee for both and having a smoke right before opening time. I was going to miss this place when I left, no one had ever really shown me so much kindness or attention until I got here.
"You look like you've had a rough night Lilo, everything good?" Cass said as took a sip of her coffee,
"Yeah, everything is good," I said, each time I said that, it seemed to be harder, but no one could know hat was going through my head, I had to hide my sadness and pretend everything was okay.
"Okay girl, if you need anything I'm here for you," Cass said,
"Let's start our day?" Cass asks as she finishes up her coffee and put out her cigarette in her ashtray, nodding I take a last drag and a sip of the coffee I had left and head inside with her. It was going to be a slow day, as todays was her boyfriends birthday, which meant that the coffee shop was going to be open in the morning and then it would be closing for lunch. Cass had invited me to go out and have lunch with her but I refused cause I didn't want her to know I was saving up to move and so that I could get farther away. It had been 8 months since I've left the hell hole, and I knew that socializing and going out would be dangerous, I didn't know how close Damien was getting. I was already testing the limits by staying here these past few weeks, but I needed the money to get out of the country and re-start my whole life.
As the closing time came up, the guys showed up,
"Hey Lilo! I heard you were coming for the lunch! That's good, glad to know you changed your mind it's going to be a lot of fun!" Cass' boyfriends says as he heads over the counter,
"What? No..." I was interrupted by Cass,
"You are coming to the lunch party, it's just going to be the four of us Lilo... Please? Plus, what kind of boss would I be if I didn't get to know my favorite employee?" Cass laughs put,
"Cass, she is your only employee..."
"Shut up, Stitch..." Cass grumbles and smacks the back of his head,
"Cass, I really shouldn't go..."
"Come on Lilo, it'll be fun!! I'll pay for your lunch if your worry is the money, come on! Please!!" Cass pleaded, only if she knew that my worry wasn't money but it was Damien,
"Cass... It's not about the money, its just I've never gone out and I wouldn't want to drag down the party..."
"Oh please, as if, you're coming and that's that!" Cass says as she pulls my apron off and tosses it in the back. I could see that there was no point in arguing with her, 'Maybe it'll be fun,' I think to myself, nodding, I pull out a monster can from the fridge,
"Ready?" Cass says excitingly, pulling a tight smile I nod, maybe going out once wouldn't hurt, but then that means that I'd have to leave this place earlier than planned. It pained me to think about how I had to leave earlier, but I couldn't forget that I was running away from him.
