[ Olivia ]
It’s been two weeks since I cut all my ties with Stephan and stayed hidden until I figure out my next step which was unclear since he had been searching me everywhere. I didn’t stay with my friend June because it’d be the first place he might come to look for me.
I was staying in a motel. I switched off my phone and deleted my social media accounts so he couldn’t trace me. I was broken beyond repair by his indifference.
He had no feelings for me, not even an ounce of sympathy for me whereas I wasted my two years in making his life beautiful. I performed all my duties as a wife but he thought I did everything for his money.
I was busy dwelling on my next step when my burner other phone rang and it flashed June’s number. I quickly received it.
“Hello, June?”
“Olivia, there’s something I think you should know.” I heard her saying in a low voice.
My heart hammered against my rib cage.
“June, what is it? You are scaring me.” I said impatiently.
“I think you can come out of your hiding. There is no use for you to stay hidden because Stephan won’t come after you.” She said.
“Why..what are you trying to say?” I asked her. I wasn’t having a good feeling about it.
“He met with an accident. It was a fatal accident and it caused him serious injuries and….” She hesitated, “He slipped into a coma.”
Her words caused my world to collapse.
I blinked my eyes to believe if I heard the right words.
“What did you just say?” I asked her again in a dreaded tone. My hands and feet were cold.
“Yes, he met with an accident three days ago, he was drunk while driving. The news didn’t come in media because Hamilton family buried it. Tiffany came to me and begged me to tell her about you. She wants you to come home but I don’t think you should appear because their parents are staying with them.” She told me.
I hung up the call and processed her words.
Stephan was nearly dead. My heart clenched in my chest. Somewhere I blamed myself for his condition. He rarely gets drunk. He must be very upset which led him to drink and drive.
I wanted to run back to him and stay by his side. I knew I couldn’t hate him even if I want because he was my first and last love.
But returning to his home means calling for my death. His parents were the most despicable and dangerous people I had ever met. They hated me simply because I wasn’t rich as them. One of the reasons they never wanted our marriage to be revealed publicly.
I wiped my tears and stood up. I wanted to see him before I leave the city forever.
With shaking hands, I called Tiffany.
“Hello, it’s me, Tiff. Can we meet at the old church?” I asked her while doing my best to control my tears.
I rushed to hug Tiffany as soon as I saw her. She didn’t look in good shape.
“Where have you been, Olivia?” She yelled at me. I could feel her anger.
“I am sorry, I just wanted to get away from him. I felt suffocated living in the loveless marriage.” I confessed with guilt.
“He looked for you everywhere like a mad man. I was there with him. So, don’t say that he never felt anything for you because I had seen him how broken and lost he was when you left him without a word.” She said.
Her words sliced my heart. It was enough to push me in a pool of guilt.
“I want to see him. Please, help me, Tiff.” I requested her in an ashamed tone.
“It’s impossible. The security around his ward is very tight and I don’t think coming across my parents is a good idea for you. My mother will lose her temper if she sees you because she’s blaming you for her beloved son’s condition.” Tiffany shook her head.
“Please, for one last time, I want to see him. I swear I will never come back. He is better without me.” I begged her.
She looked at me hesitantly but then she agreed to help me.
When I reached at the hospital, she secretly led me to his ward where his bodyguards stood. Her parents had gone home. I stared at him through the glass window as nobody was allowed to enter inside.
My heart ached seeing him lying lifelessly on the hospital bed, his head was wrapped in bandage, there was swelling on his face and bruises were on his hands. His chest heaved slowly.
“I am sorry, Stephan. I wish we would have met in different circumstances. I wish we could have a happy marriage but I have always loved you. I still love you and I won’t stop loving you till my last breath. I am letting you go because you’ll be happy without me.” I whispered and turned to leave.
I heard heels clicking which alerted me and I hid behind a pillar and I saw Vivienne coming with Mrs. Hamilton.
“Vivienne, I want you to use this chance to stay by my son’s side and win his heart when he wakes up. I won’t let that girl come back in his life ever again and I want you to erase her memories from his mind. You are the perfect wife for my son and I want you to prove it.” Mrs. Hamilton said to her.
“Mrs. Hamilton, I have been trying my best but Olivia always ruins everything.” Vivienne said with malice.
“Then try harder, Vivienne. You have no idea what I had to do keep him busy when Olivia’s mother was dying. I can’t help you anymore so prove yourself or vanish from my son’s life.” Mrs. Hamilton sounded more venomous than her.
Her words prickled my heart. It was them who created this rift between us.
But it was too late to regret. I lost Stephan and the slightest chance to be with him.
“I swear, Mrs. Hamilton. Stephan will be mine and if Olivia tries to come back, I am going to destroy her.” Vivienne vowed.
