~ Alice
The day started like any other, I was waiting for iris as usual. These days she has been distant. She flinched when I touched her, she come back late these days.
I sighed. Is iris trying to break up with me?
Is she seeing someone else?
Those were the questions I keep asking myself.
Eunice’s expression hardened approached me in the gardens immediately made my stomach twist. Her lips were tight, her eyes sharp, dangerous in that way that made my heart pound.
What did she want now ?
“Alice,” she said, voice deceptively calm, “we need to talk.”
I followed her reluctantly, sensing trouble. The words came out like a dagger, smooth and cruel: “I saw her… Iris. I saw her with your father.”
My heart froze. “What?” I barely managed.
“What do you mean?”
Eunice didn’t flinch. “I mean exactly what I said. In his office. They…” She let the implication hang heavy in the air. “…they were intimate, Alice. Sex.”
I laughed.
“ You think it's funny ? I saw iris taking in your dad d**k, like it's something she's used to.”
I blinked, the world tilting sideways. My stomach lurched, my mind scrambling to process. My Iris? My best friend? And my father?
“You… what are you talking about?” My voice cracked.
Eunice leaned in, whispering almost conspiratorially: “I thought you should know, before it goes any further. Before you get hurt even more.”
Was Eunice lying ?
I dont know.
Hurt. Confusion. Rage. Betrayal. All of it twisted in my chest like a storm. My eyes filled with tears before I even realized.
“ Are you lying Eunice ?” I asked.
“ I can't lie about this Eunice, I mean…I'm angry too. In as much I want iris for myself, now Duncan would have to pick iris as his Luna. “
“ Your father is f*****g your best friend…Alice!” She said.
I didn’t wait. I ran, my legs carrying me across the campus faster than I ever thought possible. I needed answers. I needed to hear it from Iris.
“Iris!” I called, my voice breaking, echoing through the dorm halls.
I entered the room, I saw her lying on the bed looking exhausted.
Yea, exhausted from giving my dad a blow job.
When she saw me crying, She stood up, startled, eyes wide. “Alice… what..what’s wrong?”
“Stop pretending! Stop lying!” I shouted, tears spilling down my cheeks. “Eunice… she told me. She saw you. With him… with my Dad!”
“ What the f**k were you doing with my dad?, how long has this been going on ? Why my dad? Why him?. You've been f*****g him and f*****g me too ?”
Iris froze, her body tense, hands clenching her sides. “Alice… it’s not true,” she said carefully, almost too carefully. “She’s lying. Obsessed. She wants to ruin us, wants to drive a wedge between us.”
“ You know Eunice will go so far to get between us, just to have me. I'm surprised she has to lie like this.”
“I don’t know what to believe!” I cried. My chest burned. “I… I don’t even know who you are anymore.”
Iris stepped closer, voice soft but firm. “It’s me, Alice. It’s always been me. I would never, could never, hurt you like that. You have to trust me. Please.”
“ This is your father Alice. Someone who is way older than me. My best friend dad. “
I wanted to believe her. I needed to believe her. But the voice in the back of my mind screamed, what if she’s lying? What if Eunice is right?
And yet… I knew Eunice hated Iris. It was obvious. Obsessed, manipulative… cruel. She would do anything to shame her, to get between us, to get irs. My heart wavered between fear and reason, suspicion and loyalty.
I let out a shaky breath, voice trembling. “I… I want to believe you. I really do.”
Iris nodded, her dark eyes softening with relief and sorrow. “Then believe me. We’ll face her together. You and me.”
Iris’s words settled over me like a fragile blanket, warm, but thin, full of holes my fear kept poking through.
She hugged me tighter, her chin resting against my hair, fingers threading gently through it the way she always did when she wanted to calm me. My body responded automatically, leaning into her, craving the familiarity. That scared me almost as much as Eunice’s accusation.
“I’m still yours, Alice,” she repeated softly. “And you’ll always be mine.”
I closed my eyes, breathing her in. She smelled like home. Like safety. Like everything I didn’t want to lose.
“I just…” My voice broke again. “I’ve been feeling you slip away. You’re there, but not really there. And it hurts, Iris. It makes me feel stupid for noticing.”
Her arms tightened for a second, just a second too long.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “School’s been a lot. Everything’s been a lot. I didn’t mean to shut you out.”
I pulled back slightly so I could look at her face. Her eyes were glossy, earnest. Too earnest. Or maybe that was just my fear talking.
“Promise me,” I said quietly. “Promise you’re not hiding anything from me.”
She hesitated.
It was barely noticeable, anyone else might have missed it,but I didn’t. I knew her too well. My heart thudded painfully.
“I promise,” she said at last. “There’s nothing between me and your father. Nothing. Eunice is lying because she wants to hurt us.”
I swallowed hard, nodding slowly.
That explanation made sense. Too much sense. Eunice had always looked at Iris like she was something to own, something she’d been denied. Of course she’d lie. Of course she’d twist things.
I let myself believe it.
“I hate her,” I muttered. “She’s always trying to control everything. My dad. The school. Me.”
Iris’s jaw tightened at that, just for a moment. Then it smoothed.
“She won’t win,” she said. “Not if we stick together.”
I nodded again, wiping the last of my tears. “I don’t want to lose you.”
“You won’t,” she said immediately, cupping my face. “I’m right here.”
I leaned into her touch, letting my eyes close again.
I didn’t see the way her gaze drifted past my shoulder.
I didn’t see the guilt flicker there, sharp, fast, buried deep.
And that was the moment everything quietly, irreversibly changed.
Because while I chose Iris over my aunt that night,
the truth was already alive between us
That night, alone in my room, I stared at the ceiling. A storm of jealousy, hurt, confusion, and desire brewed in me. My best friend, the girl I loved with everything in me,was tangled up in a dangerous game with my father. And even if it wasn’t true, even if she was innocent… the idea alone was enough to seed my rage, my obsession.
I clenched my fists, nails biting into my palms. I would protect her. I would stand by her. But somewhere, deep down, I also wanted vengeance if the lie was true.
And I knew… Eunice wasn’t done yet.
