MY LITTLE OBSESSION

1232 Words
~ Eunice pov Alpha Duncan was leaving. That alone was enough to unsettle the entire pack. When word spread that my brother was travelling beyond the borders, preparations began immediately , guards doubled, routes secured, messages sent ahead like prayers wrapped in Protocol. Alpha Duncan didn't move without intention, and he didn't leave his territory unless something demanded his full attention. And yet, before dawn, a message arrived for me. Meet me before I depart. No warmth. No explanation. Just a summons. I arrived at the private terminal just as the sky began to pale, the air sharp with early morning cold. Duncan stood near the transport vehicle, already dressed for travel, long coat fastened, presence commanding as ever. Even away from the throne room, even outside pack lands, he carried authority like a second skin. My elder brother. My Alpha. “You’re leaving,” I said, stating the obvious as I approached. “ Yes.” “ For now long ?” “ as long as necessary.” That answer irritated me more than it should have. “ You didn't call me here to discuss logistics,” I said. “ So why am I here ?” He turned then, finally looking at me fully. His eyes were unreadable.dark, focused, distant in that way that meant he was already thinking ten steps ahead. “ I need to make something clear before I go,” he said. I crossed my arms.” This sounds serious.” “ It is.” The silent stretched, heavy and deliberate. “I don't want you near iris,” Duncan said calmly, “ not now. Not never.” I frowned.” Iris ?” Is that why he had called me here. “ Yes.” I stared at him, genuinely confused. “ she's an omega, what does she have to do with me, or you.” His jaw tightened slightly.” That's not the point.” “ Then what is the point ?” I pressed. “ You dont summon me at dawn to warn me off an omega without reason.” He stepped closer, lowering his voice.” I don't want you hurting her.” I laughed.” Hurting her? Duncan, what exactly do you think I…” “ I'm not accusing you,” he cut in.” Because iris has been bullied under your watch.” “ And, I'm setting boundaries.” “ Based on what ?” I demanded. “ Suspicion ? Rumors ? Or is this another one of your Alpha instinct acting up.” His eyes flickered, something restrained flashing beneath the surface. “ This is about Alice.” He said. “ Your daughter?” I asked. “ Yes.” Did he know that iris and his dearest daughter were f*****g. Well, I'm just gonna play along and see. “ What does iris have to do with Alice ?” “They are close,” he replied. “ They are closer than you think…they are best friends.” I laughed inwardly. Yea sure best friends. I sighed,” so this is about your daughter happiness.” “It’s about ensuring nothing touches her life that could hurt her,” Duncan said firmly. “She’s already been affected by enough darkness.” I scoffed lightly. “And you think I’m darkness now?” “I think,” he said carefully, “that you don’t always realize the consequences of your actions.” “That’s unfair.” “Maybe,” he admitted. “But it’s also true.” I looked away, jaw tight. “So you’re telling me to avoid Iris because she’s important to Alice. Not because of anything else.” “ Yes.” There was more to this I couldn't place. I studied his face, searching for cracks. “ You're sure that's all this is?” “For now” he said. That answer sat wrong in my chest. “You’re leaving,” I said slowly. “And suddenly you’re issuing warnings about omegas and friendships. Something’s missing.” His silence confirmed it. “Duncan,” I said quietly. “You don’t get this protective without reason.” He met my gaze, voice dropping. “Alice trusts Iris. I won’t have that trust shattered because adults couldn’t control their impulses or grudges.” “Impulses?” I repeated. “Is that what you think this is about?” “I think,” he said, “that Iris is fragile right now. And fragile things break easily.” I clenched my fists. “So you’re asking me to stay away, not because I’ve done something, but because you’re afraid of what might happen.” “Yes.” At least he was honest. “And if I refuse?” I asked. His eyes hardened. “Then you’d be choosing to defy me.” The Alpha voice crept in, low and dangerous. I lifted my chin. “I won’t hurt Iris.” I wont hurt iris of course, I just wanted to taste her, and make her scream and her name. And if she's being hard to get, we might have to go the hard way. “I know,” he said. “i know you just want the best for the school. But I'm not around now, whatever she does. Oversee it. And also you have to stop f*****g girls in the office. “ “ Oh please brother…” He gave me a death stare, and that sends shivers down through my spine. “ And iris,” he called.” You're in charge, take care of the pack. Make sure things dont unravel while I'm gone.” he said. I was so happy, finally I get to be the leader of the pack, and once he sees our outstanding I am, he's surely going to make me Luna. And add to me the will. “ Okayy.” I answered. “ if you care about these family,” he said,” don't test me on this.” The transport doors opened. He turned away without another word, stepping inside as the engines hummed to life. I stood there long after the vehicle disappeared into the horizon, unease coiling tight in my chest. Because warnings like that were never just precautions. They were foreshadowing. Oh well… When I got the office, the building was still half-asleep. The halls were quiet, lights dimmed to their early morning setting, the scent of polished wood and old paper clinging to the air. My heels echoed as I walked, the sound grounding me, steadying the irritation that still buzzed beneath my skin. I shut the door behind me and leaned against it for a moment. Duncan leaving. Duncan warning me. Duncan trusting me with the pack while simultaneously drawing a line in the sand. I let out a slow breath and crossed the room, settling behind my desk. The chair felt heavier today, as if it carried more weight than it had yesterday. Authority always did that,it thrilled and burdened in equal measure. “You don’t want me near Iris,” I murmured to myself, tapping a finger against the desk. The name lingered. Iris. The thought of her alone, made me imagine so many different things. Since Duncan had left, I'm going to make it worthwhile. Whether by inviting her with her permission, or coercing her, I'll make her bend one or the other ways. My little b***h. My little obsession.
