Chapter 2

1979 Words
I walk out of my house, still thinking about the emergency meeting. Please just let this be a drill or something. I don't want another situation like the one 5 years ago. I was already training to be a pack doctor back then, so I was already in the counsel at age 16. My dad and I got a personal mindlink saying that my mom had been kidnapped by rogues for her healing abilities. We went to an emergency meeting discussing what we had to do to bring her back to us. We used our best trackers, but when we finally got there, they killed her. They had already used all her powers so she was on the brink of death. My dad couldn't handle the loss of his wife and mate and committed suicide a couple weeks later. He tried to continue for me, but he just couldn't. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil. This is one of the reasons I hate most rogues. I know that there are some rogues, who just prefer alone life over pack life and that's okay, but most rogues were kicked out of a pack for a reason. It also makes me incredibly sad to know that my parents had such a full life still ahead of them. They weren't even done living, they wanted to enjoy growing old together and now they can't. It's not fair. I quickly try to shake off the negative thoughts. It's been 5 years and I've learned to live with the pain. I tried not to be angry at everything but some of my anger towards rogues I just can't shake off. I try to pay extra close attention to my surroundings, trying to notice something different about them, but nothing is. Everything seems the same so this must be a meeting they just forgot to schedule. It seems like there is no danger, so I try to relax. But still I can't shake this weird feeling. The weirdest part is, that the feeling feels like excitement. My wolf also seems excited in my mind. But why would we be excited? Was is happening that would make us excited? Is it a good excited? I walk in a calm pace to the pack house where the counsel meeting will be held. The pack house is not a place I enjoy being. It's always loud noises and many people, I'm more of an introvert, I like to be alone in a quiet place. The giant house quickly comes into view, making me dread the drama that's probably already going on inside. People complaining about the pack meeting, people complaining in general, is not something I want to deal with on a saturday morning. I'd much rather spend it sitting on my lazy chair, reading a book. But we can't always have what we want. So I just mentally prepare myself for what's to come and step inside the house. The first thing I notice is the absence of people and noise. What is going on? Normally this place is bursting with life, children running around, parents running after said children trying to catch them before they do something stupid. Stuff like that. When I recover of the initial shock of the silence I notice the second weird thing that is out of the ordinary in this house. The smell. Don't get me wrong, there are tons of smells in this house, people eat here after all. But this smell isn't the smell of food. It's the smell of other werewolves. Is there another pack here? Maybe that's what the emergency meeting is about? Another pack might be at war and they need our help? It would make sense, packs sometimes ask each other for help. Especially in a fight between packs, which are more common than you would think. I climb the stairs to our meeting room, feeling slightly nervous. This is not a normal meeting after all, and I get nervous in situations when I don't know what's going to happen. Before I can step in the room, I am stopped by my alpha Ned. ''Oliver, I have to warn you beforehand.'' He says, grabbing me by the shoulders and preventing me from entering the room. He looks down at me, being that he is really tall. He is about 6'3 and I'm only 5'9 or something. I stopped measuring myself at age 16, but I don't think I've grown much since then. ''Okay?'' I say, feeling slightly confused. Why is he only warning me? Is this something about me? I feel a weird vibe coming from him and from whatever there is behind the door. ''I know that you have history with these kind of wolves, but I want you to stay calm and hear them out okay? We try not to judge in this pack, even though I also must admit that it can be hard sometimes.'' He says, looking me intensely in the eye. What is he on about? This type of wolf? What does he mean by that? ''What do you mean?'' I say, voicing my thoughts. The alpha is acting weird and I don't like it at all. ''I mean that you're not going to like who are in there and that I need you to just be here and weigh in your honest opinion, without prejudice.'' He says, making his whole message even more weird. I really don't know what to do with this information. I like to think that I'm not a judgy person so why would the alpha think that I am? ''You know I'm a very objective person. I always try to do what's best for the pack.'' Will he just spit it out already? I'm very curious what he's making such a big deal about. ''The Santos pack is in there and-'' I'm about to interrupt him expressing my shock and displease, but he holds up a finger, signalling me to wait and let him finish. I sigh, but let him finish anyway. ''They want to make a trade with us. They want part of our land in exchange for resources. They have diamonds and gold, it's worth a lot of money.'' ''Are you crazy?!'' I almost yell at him, but I can luckily refrain myself from doing so, disrespecting the alpha is not good. ''Why would you make a deal with them?! Those diamonds are probably stolen!'' The Santos pack is bad news. They are a pack of rogues, notorious for their violent way of breaking rogues out of their cells to have them join their pack. It is said that the alpha of the pack is very smart, but has no emotions. Rumour has it that he kills people in cold blood and that he even almost killed his own alpha in his sleep. I do not want to meet those rogues, they are the bad kind. ''Calm down. I am not crazy, and I never said that I would take the deal, in fact I'm probably not. But I am obligated to listen to them, they could probably just take land if they wanted to, they are stronger than we are. But we are going to hear them out, because we are a civilized pack and maybe they'll be civilized too.'' He says it like he doesn't even believe it. This is going to be a disaster and we both know it. But what can we do? He is probably right, they are stronger than us. But we have stronger friends, so if it came to a war, we would probably win. But those friends are far away so they're only useful on the long term. ''Fine, I'll listen to them. But I'm out of here as soon as I can, I don't like this one bit.'' I say, feeling annoyed and also a bit scared. These wolves are highly unstable, I'll have to be try to be normal to not piss them off. He walks over to the door, opening it for me, letting me step in too. I keep my head down, not making any eye contact with the rogues, looking them in their eyes would humanize them and I don't want to do that. A delicious scent hits my nose. What is that smell? I don't lift my head though, no matter how curious I am. Someone probably bought a new really good smelling cologne or something. I can feel eyes on me when I walk to the seat I'm usually in. But that's not that weird, because I just walked in with the alpha. The alpha starts the meeting, talking about some boring stuff about the deal that the other alpha wants to make. I try to listen, I really do, but I just can't focus. The smell keeps hitting my nostrils and the feeling of eyes on me doesn't go away. Is someone staring at me? Am I going crazy? I don't look up though, even though my wolf wants me to for some reason. If someone is staring at me, it might be hostile and I don't want to make enemies. ''So you won't make the deal?'' A gorgeous voice cuts through my thoughts. I don't know what it is about this voice, it brings tingles all over my back. The hairs on my arms are standing up, but I'm not cold. What is going on? ''Alpha?'' I hear the voice that's been talking the whole time ask. I assumed that he was the alpha, but apparently not. The one doing the talking in that pack isn't the alpha? That's a bit weird. ''I guess it's time for us to leave then.'' The alpha says again, his voice sending more chills over my back down my spine. I feel like he is directly speaking to me, but that would be weird right? Why would he speak to me? I'm just the pack doctor. Nobody in my pack says anything, but they stand up to shake the hand of everyone from the other pack. It's a common thing for meetings to end in handshaking to make sure everyone is still civil and no one is at war with each other, so really the hand shaking is a good thing. Right now though, I don't want to shake any of their hands, I just want to go home and pretend that all of this didn't happen. But I have to. If I don't shake their hands they'll see it as disrespect and especially with the alpha, that's a bad thing. So I step over my fear and disgust and shake their hands, not looking any of them in their eyes, just looking at their noses or chins, anywhere but the eyes. The delicious smell seems to be getting closer and closer. When eventually I've shaken everyone's hands but one, the source of the smell seems to be right in front of me. embodying the giant form of the rogue alpha. He himself is standing right in front of me, waiting for me to shake his hand, while having an amazing scent. I slowly lift my hand from my side, looking at his big hand. My wolf is meanwhile shouting at me to look up, to look this man in the eyes. So fast that I can't even react, he grabs my hand and pulls me forward, making me fall right into him. Tingles shoot all up my arm from where his hand touches mine. My other hand lands on his chest, trying to keep myself from falling flat on my face. My eyes shut upwards to his face, right into his eyes. His eyes are a dark blue, like the ocean in the evening after the sun has set. But the most striking thing about this is the voice of my wolf, shouting 'Mate!' in my head.
