Episode3: Awakening and Resolve

995 Words
A dull throbbing pain echoed through Selene’s body as she slowly regained consciousness. Her eyelids felt heavy, her mind clouded in a haze of exhaustion. She could hear hushed voices nearby, but she couldn’t place them. As she forced her eyes open, the sterile scent of herbs and medicine filled her nostrils. She was in the infirmary. Her vision cleared, revealing her father, Beta Logan, standing at the foot of her bed. His arms were crossed, his expression a mixture of fury and disappointment. “You’re awake,” he said, his voice void of warmth. Selene winced as she tried to sit up, a sharp pain shooting through her chest. The rejection still lingered, a cruel reminder of what had happened. Astra, her wolf, whimpered weakly in her mind. “How long have I been out?” she croaked. “Two days,” Logan replied stiffly. “The pack doctor said your wolf is weakened from the rejection.” Selene’s fingers curled into the sheets. She didn’t need a doctor to tell her that. She could feel Astra’s pain like a dull ache in her soul. Her connection to her wolf had been fractured, almost severed, by Damian’s cruel rejection. A knock on the door interrupted them, and the pack doctor entered. She was an older woman with kind eyes, but the grim expression on her face made Selene uneasy. “I’m glad to see you awake, Selene,” the doctor said. “But I won’t sugarcoat this. The rejection has done more damage than usual.” Selene swallowed hard. “What does that mean?” “It means Astra is weak,” the doctor said gently. “Rejections are painful, but an Alpha’s rejection is especially brutal. Your wolf is struggling to hold on.” Selene sucked in a shaky breath. Astra was her other half, her strength, her connection to the Moon Goddess. If her wolf faded completely… what would she become? Logan exhaled sharply. “You should have fought back,” he muttered. “You should have made him reconsider.” Selene’s chest tightened. “How was I supposed to fight back? He rejected me in front of everyone!” “Exactly,” Logan snapped. “In front of everyone. And now, the whole pack sees you as weak.” Selene flinched. The words cut deep, but she couldn’t deny the truth in them. Her father wasn’t done. “The whispers have already started. People are saying an unclaimed she-wolf doesn’t belong in the pack.” Selene clenched her fists. “So what? I just let them walk all over me?” Logan’s gaze was cold. “You have two options, Selene. Stay here and endure the shame… or leave.” Her breath caught in her throat. “Leave?” she repeated, barely believing what she was hearing. Logan didn’t waver. “If you can’t hold your place here, you have no future in this pack.” The words were a death sentence. She had been raised here, trained here. She had bled for this pack. And now, because of Damian’s rejection, she was being cast aside like she was nothing. Tears burned at the edges of her eyes, but she refused to let them fall. Logan’s tone was final. “Decide soon.” With that, he turned on his heel and walked out, leaving her alone with the weight of his ultimatum. That night, the pack house was quieter than usual, but Selene could still hear the murmurs. They weren’t even trying to hide it. “She was never strong enough to be Luna.” “Kara fits Damian so much better.” “She should just leave. It’s embarrassing for her to stay.” Selene’s jaw clenched as she walked past them. If they thought she was weak, they had no idea what she was capable of. As she reached her bedroom, a sharp pain flared in her chest. She pressed her palm against her heart, trying to steady herself. Then, a voice echoed in her mind. Selene… She froze. “Astra?” she whispered. Her wolf sounded faint, but her voice held an urgency that sent chills down Selene’s spine. You have to leave. Now. Selene’s breath hitched. “What? Why?” This pack was never meant to be your home, Astra murmured. Your fate is elsewhere. Before Selene could ask anything more, the voice faded, leaving behind an eerie sense of foreboding. Her fate… was elsewhere? Selene had spent her entire life believing she would serve this pack. That she would become Luna and lead beside her fated mate. But Damian had shattered that dream. And now, Astra was telling her to leave. Could she really do it? She had no allies here. No one would stop her. A cold determination settled in her bones. Yes. She could. At dawn, Selene stood at the edge of the pack’s borders, a single bag slung over her shoulder. The forest stretched before her, vast and unknown. She took a shaky breath. This was it. No more waiting for acceptance. No more clinging to a pack that didn’t want her. A faint rustling in the trees made her tense. She turned, expecting to see a guard, maybe her father coming to stop her. But instead, a shadowy figure emerged from the trees. Selene’s breath caught. The man before her was tall, his features sharp and unreadable. His piercing eyes locked onto hers, unreadable yet intense. “You’re finally leaving,” he said, his voice deep and smooth. Selene took a cautious step back. “Who are you?” He tilted his head. “Someone who’s been waiting for you.” Her pulse quickened. Waiting for her? Before she could ask more, Astra stirred weakly in her mind. He’s not a threat… Selene didn’t know whether to believe that. But one thing was certain—her journey was just beginning. And she had no idea what awaited her beyond the pack’s borders.
