Running Away

The chilly wind blew across my face wiping my hair around, reminding me that I am still outside. I took a deep breath and stepped to the door, knocking twice. I Waited a little then knocked again, I got ready to knock again before I heard what felt like a shuffle, I hesitated, but when I didn't hear anything else l went for another knock when the door got pulled open. I tried hard not to look at his exposed chest, and I guess he noticed my pink tinted cheeks because he smiled and apologised. He just got out of the shower he explained as he let me in. His wet disheveled brown hair was an indication that he was saying the truth, he quickly left and when he returns he has a T-shirt on. Not that it did any good cause I could still see the outline of his abs, I don't know why but I noticed that I was becoming more conscious of how people look especially the guys. Infact I find myself checking them out and I tend to get really weird feelings when they look at me or compliment me. Before it never mattered, now I can't help but think that I am changing. I asked about my Melie and he simply says, "she got called in early". With the way he said It I knew he wasn't going further on the topic, so I asked if he could help me drop a message with her. He looked at me for a while, maybe Wondering why I didn't call her to tell I was coming, maybe he was already regretting letting me in, since the person I was visiting had no idea I was here I quickly explained that I came as a matter of urgency. I don't know the kind of life she lives here so I am trying as much as possible to not give anything away. So I decided to be the one doing the asking. Hey eerm, "Brad" he said without even looking up from the book he picked immediately he sat down. Hmm it' seems that this guy doesn't talk much, but I still want to try my luck. Sorry Brad I was wondering why you let me in even when you didn't know who I was I said while clicking my nails together waiting for a reply. I stayed a while and when I heard nothing I looked up to see him staring at me. I crunched up my brows and gave him the what look. He just shook his head trying to hide his smile. Hmm I'm really getting confused. I heard him mutter something like, "you asked for it". Before he faced me completely , dropping the book. So beautiful, what's your name? He asked catching me off guard. Izra I replied. "Now that's a sweet name for a dangerously beautiful girl like you", he returned. "Excuse me, I am not dangerous", I answered back feeling slightly anoyed. "Oh and feisty too, wow this is turning out better than I imagined", he said stunning me. Was this his way of punishing me for disturbing him? Well he should be ready cause I am not backing down. So what makes you think I am dangerous Brady, I asked in sickly sweet manner batting my lashes. Two can as well play this game. "Well anyone as beautiful as you should be put on the wanted list. Interestingly, I said pretending to think. You let me waltz right in, now it's pretty clear that someone has a death wish. "Well any guy would give anything to be in a confined space with you angel. Now I can't help but think that this guy would be a womanizer with the way the endearments roll off his tongue , too bad for him he doesn't know what he's up against or should I say who. I smiled at my own joke and for a minute I forgot he was here not until he suddenly said I'm very glad you find me funny, he smiled showing his white teeth. Now I won't let him have that satisfaction, would I? Come on now, don't give yourself too much credit I retorted. Silly me, and here I thought I was doing a good job, we both burst into laughter, I can't remember when last I spoke this much. He finally explained to me that there's 6 rooms in the house and each of them is occupied by someone so even if he wasn't expecting anyone he was sure I was visiting one of them, just not who he had in mind. I asked him why he said that and he trailed off, well... eerm you see, your Sis barely has visitors so I actually thought you were visiting that jock that lives in the fourth room. He brought down his voice and whispered, he changes girls like doc's prescription, thrice daily. Then he looked side to side as if expecting to see someone standing there watching him. It was kinda funny to watch. What are you doing I asked him. He brought his face closer and whispered, Even the walls have ears, so it won't hurt to be careful. We talked about anything that came to our mind and I figured out that Brad wasn't cold as he potrays himself to be, it's just a desguise. You just have to get past his hard exterior.I also learnt he was the oldest tenant in the house and now does the work of a caretaker, he has lived here for almost 4yrs. Upon asking why he left home, his countenance changed and i knew I hit a sensitive spot. And from the way he reacted it must be a very painful one. So I quickly diverted the matter back to my sister because it was almost 9:30 and I was very hungry too and this got me remembering the event that took place earlier that made me end up here. I wasn't even able to eat the delicious cake I baked. It was barely 5mins I turned out the cake on the rack to cool , when Mom came in the kitchen, she took some for tasting and told me we needed to talk. I moved over to the island and pulled out a chair for myself and waited, she finished her cake, came over, and without looking at me, told me straight, "Izra you see how hard things has gotten since your dad's illness, we need to pay a lot of money for his medication and that is affecting all of us as there's no extra source of income. Your sisters has taken up jobs to support but we still need more help. So I have decided you would be going with me to the city tomorrow to work for Mr Levi as a live in maid. He would take charge of your feeding, clothing and also you would have the opportunity to go to one of the best schools in Bourkingdom, knowing his reputation even the poorest school for him would be one you can only dream of, and please don't think of saying anything because that's my final decision",She finished. To say I was broken was an understatement, mom wasn't like this, she won't do this, I hope this was a joke but it seems I am thinking too far...............
