Pack Clean Up

The pack had been working hard on cleaning up the grounds. The ball room now was cleaned with the meeting room adjacent to it in working order. The pack house itself again stood a beautiful white with the weeds gone and the swing properly attached in place. Rocking chairs now sat on the porch and flower pots at the end of the steps. Houses were being rebuilt around the pack grounds.

Evangeline decided to start working on the river front while other members cleaned the gardens. She hadn't had time to herself since taking on the rule of Alpha and needed time to think on how to address the other packs and shifters to ensure an alliance was made with them. She threw on a white crop top and high waisted jeans shorts and ran to the river bank before anyone could see her. She was pulling weeds and planting new flowers when a bourbon cedar wood smell hit her the smell I captivated her.

Evangeline still hadn't looked up from her gardening in fear of what the smell meant but the urge to look for where it was coming from started to overtake her. She finally looked up and saw a large grey and black wolf staring at her from across the river. She could tell it was a Lycan by the size of him. Then her wolf Avery was starting to stir inside her.

"Mate, mate, mate" Avery yelped inside her head.

"Mate" whispered Evangeline before she could even stop the word from leaving her lips.

She then ran as fast as her human legs could take her back to the pack house. She didn't glance back in fear that her legs would take her straight to her destined mate. She just kept running until she reached her room and shut the door behind her.

"What are you doing that is our mate" yelped Avery.

"We can't find our mate now, we just took the rule of Alpha. All we will prove is that a woman does not belong in leadership and they will think some Lycan is taking over the pack" Evangeline said sternly to Avery.

Evangeline took a few deep breaths and headed to the training grounds to burn off some steam. She meet Stella there who looked at her sheepishly. Stella was a tall thin woman that Evangeline had been friends with since they were pups. Stella's long blonde hair was up in a ponytail and she was dressed in a lacy tan crop top with a green floral pencil skirt.

"You look like you just saw a ghost Evey" Stella said with a grin.

"You don't look like you're dressed to train" Evangeline said with her hands on her hips.

"If I can't train in this then how can I be prepared for any occasion and plus I have to dress to impress especially now that all eyes are on the new Alpha, beta team." Stella laughed

Evangeline rolled her eyes at her friend. That girl always made some kind of excuse to dress up. She loved the attention it brought her but she still was a good fight regardless of what she had on, one of the many reasons she was chosen for her beta.

"Hey but you're avoiding the elephant in the room Evey. What has you all wound up?" Stella asked

"Nothing just working hard on our pack grounds and maybe we should get some training in before we finish up with the garden" Evangeline said.

The two worked on some training techniques together as some warriors came in with Celestia to work on their training. Stella and Evangeline worked as a team to fight with some of the other warriors taking them on at ease. When everyone was tired out the two women sat on a bench and drank some water.

"Maybe we should take a swim in the river. It's such a hot summer day and we could use a cool down and some fun" Stella suggested to Evangeline.

"No! We should finish up with the garden and then talk about our plans for the ball in a few days" Evangeline quickly responded.

Stella raised an eyebrow in suspicion on her friends behavior but didn't question it. Instead to followed her friends lead. The two women talked about the ball and how great everything was coming together when an Omega came up to Evangeline.

"Alpha Thornton we just received word from the Lycan King. They have graciously accepted our invitation to the ball this weekend" the Omega man said as he bowed down to his Alpha.

"Wow wasn't expecting them to actually send the king. Figured that they would just send some ambassador and ether accept or decline the alliance and leave. This ball has just gotten interesting. I heard the kind is a hunk" Stella said with a smile.

"Guess us being a pack ran by women made an interest to him" Evangeline said to her friend

"Maybe we will find our mates this weekend. Mom said it's the most wonderful feeling in the world. She still misses my father but, I want that feeling she had with him for the time they were able to be together." Stella said with a little sadness in her green eyes.

Evangeline put her hand on her friends shoulder and the two women sat their in silence pondering on the future. Then finally Evangeline took in a deep breath and looked at her friend in the eyes and for the first time showed the fear in her face.

"I already found my mate Stella, I seen him earlier at the river bank, well I saw his wolf. He is a Lycan but, how can I accept a mate at this time. I just got the pack from my father".

"Even you of all people deserve love and happiness. I don't think you can reject him and besides you'll be stronger with your mate and who said you can't have it all. Men get to have love and be a leader so let's show everyone that a woman can too" Stella said while standing up and smiling.

Evangeline couldn't help but smile at this revelation. She can have it all and be a good Alpha no matter who her mate is. It of course wasn't the Lycan king he would only want another Lycan by his side.
