  She had nothing else to say to Kane–nothing good, at least–so she turned to James. “I’ll see you out.”   James gave Kane a perfunctory nod and followed Cynthia around to the front of the house.   “Sorry about that,” she apologised. It seemed that every time they ran into Kane together, the interaction was often hostile and, for Cynthia, embarrassing.   If an outsider saw the way Kane behaved, they’d think he was a jealous lover. This man had never looked at her twice when they were married. Now that they were divorced, what business did he have with whom she spent time?   But, she knew that it had nothing to do with jealousy. Kane was simply a control freak.
