Owen's face, contorted with rage, appeared before her, his eyes burning with unconcealed disgust.
"Jane, how could you be so vicious? Not even sparing your own child?"
Jane was utterly bewildered, completely unaware of what he meant.
After all, she had just been freed—what could she possibly have done to her child?
Then Owen shoved a video in front of her. In the footage, she saw someone wearing her clothes hurling her newborn, less than a month old, straight into a swimming pool.
A wave of terror clawed its way up Jane's throat.
"No! My baby! Is she alright? What have you done to her?"
She grabbed Owen's wrist in desperation, her eyes welling up as tears streamed down her face.
However, there wasn't a trace of concern in Owen's gaze.
Instead, he tightened his grip on her wrist with brutal force.
"Jane, stop pretending! Wasn't it you who threw the child? Do you know how much Serena cares for this child? She's the sweetest one of them all. And now Serena's so distraught she's been hospitalized."
Jane's heart wrenched in agony.
She never imagined Owen would condemn her so harshly.
Based solely on a faceless figure in her clothes, he'd branded her the monster who threw a child into the pool.
Before she could process it, Serena burst in, wearing a hospital gown, her face pale, followed by several maids.
Her demeanor was fierce, her eyes burning with naked hatred.
"Jane, given your mental derangement, I've tolerated you time and time again. I just never imagined you would actually try to murder my child. I won't let you off so easily!"
With a wave of her hand, Serena signaled the maids, who lunged forward and seized Jane.
Jane was forced to the edge of the swimming pool.
"Today, I'll make you feel what my child endured! She's still in the hospital, fighting for her life with water in her lungs. If she doesn't pull through, you'll join her in death."
Serena seized her hair and slammed her head into the pool. The bone-chilling water gushed into her nostrils and filled her lungs.
Jane felt her organs sear with pain. She thrashed helplessly, trying to scream for help from those nearby.
But Owen stood just steps away, refusing to even glance her way.
Serena, however, seemed possessed, her smile widening into something grotesquely gleeful.
"How does it feel? The drowning part isn't so terrible, is it? Your child felt just like this!"
As Jane was forced under, she rasped, "You threw the child, didn't you?"
Serena leaned in, her voice a venomous whisper. "That's right. But you see, this kid was just way too noisy—even noisier than the last one. Once I threw her in like that, she stopped crying. Everything got so quiet all at once."
A torment like no other wrenched Jane's heart. She'd already lost one child, and now Serena sought to destroy her newborn.
But she was powerless to fight back.
In one swift motion, Serena kicked her hard, sending her sprawling into the pool.
The water engulfed her. Jane flailed, lungs aflame, on the verge of rupture. Only when she was on the verge of suffocation was she dragged back out of the water.
Owen scrambled over, frantic, his eyes darting between the purple-faced Jane and Serena, now sobbing like a wronged saint.
Ultimately, he pulled Serena close.
"Forgive me, Owen. I just... snapped. Let's take her to the hospital."
"She got what she deserved. Who knows if she'd come after our children again?"
With a wave of Owen's hand, Jane was shoved into the back seat by several servants.
The ride was bumpy. The water she'd been forced to gulp down earlier churned in her chest, vomit trickling from her mouth.
The back seat was a soggy mess.
At a sharp turn, the two men in the car jammed the brakes, bringing the vehicle to a sudden halt.
They got out, slammed the door shut with a bang, and switched on the self-driving mode.
Jane was abandoned in the back seat.
Then, as if out of control, the car plunged straight off the cliff.
A deafening crash rang out.
Every bone and limb howled in agony. Every cell was screaming. She hazily pried her eyes open. Her entire body was covered in blood.
Within minutes, another explosion erupted as the car burst into raging flames.
Meanwhile, Owen, still comforting Serena at the hospital, received a call.
The voice on the line was frantic.
"Sir, something terrible has happened. The car you sent to the hospital crashed! The woman inside... it looks like she didn't make it out of the fire."
