Chapter 12

765 Words
We walked through the hospital and arrived at the x-ray room. Jane told me to change into a gown, and she and Dr. Miller left the room while I changed. I told them to enter again and they helped me lie down on the x-ray machine. "OK, Eva. I need you to be very still. Don't move, okay? The machine will make some weird, loud noises, so don't be scared. I have the mic open so you can listen to us and we can listen to you. It won't take long, so don't worry, ok?" Dr. Miller said after he checked that everything was ready. I nodded my head and both of them left. " Eva, can you hear me loud and clear?" Dr Miller said through the mic, and I replied with a 'yes'. "OK, the machine will work now and make some noises. If you have any problems or feel scared, scream and I'll let you out OK. " "Ok" The machine started to make some big noises, and I felt as if the bed I was on was moving. "Is it supposed to move?" "What do you mean, Eva?" "The bed. It's moving. " "It's ok, the bed is just going inside the machine and coming back again. Don't worry." I calmed a bit down and tried to relax. After 5 minutes, I heard the machine stop. I heard the door open and Dr Miller came towards me. "Hey Eva, Good job, sweetie! You did great. My sister will take you to my office, and I'll get the results and come back again. " He said as he helped me down the bed, causing my leg to hurt a bit. I kind of forgot about my injured leg that was hurting me a couple of days ago. Jane took me to his office, and we waited for Dr. Miller to come back. " Umm... Jane, what is your job? If you are working, I didn't mean to intrude. I'm just curious. " I asked her, sitting on the couch. She looked at me and said, "Great question. I'm actually a kindergarten teacher, but I work part-time. So, I'm not always working." "Why?" "I'd rather not say anything because it's a very long, complicated story that I don't want to share. I hope you understand. " "It's OK, I understand." just as I finished talking. Dr. Miller came inside and closed the door. "Well, I don't know how you are surviving or how you survived Eva. You have a lot of broken ribs, and your leg is broken, and I'm sure it's swollen. There is a lot going on, but I promise you I'll help you be better. " He finished with a sympathetic smile. I knew I had something wrong with my legs, but I didn't think that my father would hit me to the point that my ribs were broken. I didn't know I was crying until I felt Jane wiping my tears. I got into full sobs and hugged her for dear life. This was all a lot to me. There is so much news and surprises to know today. All of them were bad. Now that I've discovered that I have many broken things in addition to my broken and shattered heart, I seriously don't know what happened next, but all I heard were voices telling me something, but I couldn't hear them until I slipped into the dark. I woke up to some voices around me. I shifted my position on what felt like a couch and sat up. I looked around me and saw Jane and Dr. Miller. They looked like they were in a heated argument. "Brian, you can't force her to do something she doesn't want to do!" She said to him, It seems they didn't notice me yet. I cleared my throat and both of them looked at me. Dr. Miller came towards me and checked my heartbeat with my hand. He sighed in relief. " How are you feeling, Eva?" "I'm good, but why were you arguing? What is it about? " I felt him tense beside me and looked at his sister. She gave him a "don't you dare tell her" look. He sighed. He looked at me sympathetically. "Eva, are you ready to continue your check up? I need to check out your stomach and we need to get a cast on your leg." I looked at him nervously. "I'll be with you, Eva. Don't worry, ok? " Jane said, and I nodded my head. "Let's get this over with then."
