Jace's p.ov
"Where to?" Harold asks me when we are outside the hospital. "To August," I am not sure what I will tell him, but whatever it is, I need to get it over with.
I knock on his door, secretly hoping he is not in. "Come in," he answers. I take a deep breath, before twisting the door handle. August is on his seat.
His face looks even more serious than usual. There is someone seated across the table from him. He is facing away from me.
"Is this a bad time? I could come back later," I am ready to walk away.
"Nonsense, I believe you two know each other," on cue, the guy turns to look at me. It is Dan.
I start feeling clammy. I had no plan, but to be blindsided like this. "You got into an accident and I thought I would help you out," August informs me.
I give him an awkward smile. I try my best not to flinch.
"Turns out I was looking for the wrong person," August's eyes turn cold. He is staring at me. He knows, he already knows that I was the one driving and that I saw him kill.
If he did not have enough reasons to kill me, he does now.
"Like I just explained, my car was stolen when I was in court that day. I actually thought he had found it when he asked about it," Dan says, pretty convincingly.
He stands and walks to where I am. "It has been a long time, Miller." I nod. I am not sure whether August believes it. He still looks like he is ready to kill someone, just not either of us.
"Is there anything else?" Dan looks back at August. "No, that will be all."
Dan walks out unscathed. He actually got out of the lion's den alive. He is great under pressure. "A minute Jace," August stops me from following him.
I have checked with my police contact and his story holds up. They are looking for the car and who stole it, when they find him and arrest him, I want you to get him off," he watches my reaction.
"Okay. How is Amelia doing?"
"She is eating," he informs me. I wish I could see her. I hope she is really coping. "That's all," he disrupts my thoughts.
I find Dan waiting for me outside the mansion. "What was that?" I am still confused about what just happened. Grateful, but confused. "Not here. Meet at Mc'larens at ten," he whispers before getting in a car I have never seen him with before.
"You have a client waiting for you," my secretary tells me. "What does he want?" I snap. I am in no mood to entertain anyone right now.
" It is a she, and she claims it is confidential," she adjusts her thick glasses.
Maybe it is Amelia. Maybe she was able to get out of the fortress. I know the chances of that happening are small, but I can't help but hope.
When I make the last turn to my office, I see a young lady. She is a blonde and in her twenties. I am not sure whether I can have other clients or whether they all have to be connected to the BLACKSWANS.
She looks familiar, the closer I get. It is Zoela.
"Hi," she lights up when she sees me.
"Good morning," I greet her back. "Is this when you usually get to work?" I look at my wristwatch. It is past ten. "Depends. What are you doing here?"
"I need to talk to you," it sounds serious. I proceed to unlock my office. I invite her in. I take off my coat as I wait for her to start talking.
"Are you a lawyer?" I look at the obvious name plaque on my desk. Attorney Jace Miller. "I thought you were a mob boss," I smile not sure what to tell her or what she wants to hear.
"Is this what you wanted to talk about?" I am beginning to feel annoyed. "No, I wanted you to know that I am free the whole of this week," she gives me a wide smile.
"What does your schedule have to do with me?"
"So we can go on dates," she says like I should know what she is talking about. "What gave you the idea that I might want to go on dates with you?" This is turning out to be a very confusing morning.
"I know you are in love with me, but you're shy, so I thought I would make it easier for you," she explains. I gasp in surprise. "Am I now?" I am shocked at her delusion.
I think back at our interaction. No matter how hard I think, there is nothing I did that would have caused such a misunderstanding.
"Listen here sweetie, I don't want to go on dates with you, and no way am I in love with you. If I did or said something that would have made you come to that conclusion, I apologize." I try to say it as gently but firmly as I possibly can.
She nods, like she understands but remains seated calmly.
"Is it because you're a mob lawyer, and you're afraid I won't love you back?" She leans over my desk. I move back in my seat. "No, that's not it."
"Because I love you no matter what," she lays both her hands on her chest earnestly. "Are you intentionally trying not to hear what I am saying?"
I get up, and she does too.
"I love you, Jace Miller. Jace Miller. Zoela Miller. You have to agree it has a nice ring to it," She hasn't stopped smiling. "I kill people for a living," I threaten her.
"I will love you with all your flaws," she is hopeless. "I am in love with someone else," I blurt out before she gets to me. "No, you're not." She sounds certain.
I am near the door. I am about to open it, when she turns me around. She leans against me, brushing her ample breast against my chest.
I try my best not to look. I maintain eye contact with her, despite how much I want to look down at her generous cleavage. She gets a mischievous look in her eye.
Before I can stop her, she clutches my p***s. I gasp in shock. She takes the opportunity and shoves her mouth inside mine. What a morning!
